  1. I personally think that some of the extinct hockey teams looked the best. The Whalers, Nordiques, Rockies, Jets, etc. had some of my favorite hockey designs ever, and instead now we get to feast our eyes on the Hurricanes and Avalanche. Sad. So, This is basically my attempt to rewrite history, if the new franchises continued the look of their formers, Starting out with the Whaler-Hurricanes. The whalers had one of the best logos in all of sports history, and awesome uniforms and color scheme to boot, which helps to make the Hurricanes design more unique. C&C appreciated, and although I have some more on tap, let me know what you'd like to see next! Thanks!
  2. I haven't made a concept in awhile so here we go. This is what I hope Adidas does with the Hurricanes for the 2017-2018. I wanted to keep it simple but also add elements from some of their previous jerseys. Added "Carolina" on the inner collar for the away and "Hurricanes" for the home. I debated going the route of the NBA and adding something to represent Stanley Cup victories. Yes, the lime green line is intentional, not an error. I added the 100 Anniversary logo at the last minute but originally I had intended to not include it, instead having every team use a chrome material behind the NHL shield on the collar. If I get enough C&C I may make this a league wide project.
  3. Hey everyone, I worked on fixing up the Canes into something they I wish they would wear. The design incorporates elements from their new and old jerseys... I also attempted to make a new wordmark for the team but I'm not sure if I like the way it came out. I'm relatively new to designing concepts and using illustrator so C&C is welcomed! 4. Hello everyone! This is my first ever attempt at making a jersey concept and also my first time ever using Adobe Illustrator. I decided to work on making a new home jersey for the Canes that takes the best elements of their old uniforms as well as the new ones such as the warning flag stripes and the extended yoke, I also took the 2 white stripes that's on the current home uniform and incorporated it. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out but let me know what you think and any advice for the future! FirstCanesConcept.pdf
  5. Hi, everybody! It's been quite awhile since I posted something concept-wise. The last time I did so, the boards were going through a transition period of new mods being implemented and younger/inexperienced members running amok, causing chaos on the thread I posted. I became discouraged, thinking the CCSLC was doomed to fail. The quality of work around here has suffered and there are too many inexperienced members not properly taking C&C, or, taking the wrong C&C from the wrong people. But, I digress... Anyway, I've been working on a very simple hockey template that I could use for myself (the helmet, pants, and socks, I've taken from various places here in the templates section, so credit to the artist(s) that created those). The jersey was the part I hand drew and then uploaded to my computer and traced, so I would like come comments on that if you feel so inclined. I struggled with the proportions and ratios a bit, but I feel like I've found a comfortable median. The uniforms are designed to have thinner sleeves and more be more formfitting, as I initially wanted to create an entire series dedicated to coming up with a new manufacturer of jerseys (other than Reebok, CCM, Starter, Nike, etc., etc.) and redesign the NHL according to that. I may get to that at a later date, but for now, I'd just like some feedback on what I have. Calgary Flames Logo: The Flames have a very good logo currently. Very good, but not great. Besides being muddled with unnecessary black and having one too many outlines, it is a crisp and clean logo that is very recognizable. I took the liberty of cleaning up the logo some, giving it a better sense of speed and direction, while still maintaining it's original form. The flames on the 'C' always bugged me because in the middle there are two flames that come together in opposite directions forming an awkward area of background amidst the foreground that is the logo. The 'C' itself has always looked weird to me too. The negative space on the inside looks like a kidney bean; it just doesn't flow well enough. I've also designed an alternate logo (yes a roundel!), using the Flames' current alternate as inspiration. If you click the links below, you can see larger images of the logos I've designed for the Calgary Flames. Primary (white background) || Primary (red background) || Alternate Uniforms: As we all know and can (hopefully) agree on, the Calgary Flames have some of the worst uniforms in the NHL. I, for one, love the color scheme of red, yellow, and white. The addition of black, in my opinion, isn't necessary. I've actually tried many times and in many different ways to implement it in this concept to prove myself wrong, but I can't. What really strikes a nerve with me is that the flames use a black 'C' on their primary uniforms, it's really unappealing. So, I thought to just eliminate the black completely and go back to the red, yellow, white color scheme that the club started with. I did darken the colors a bit (I remember the Blues playing the Flames a couple years ago in their throwback jerseys and I thought that the shades of red and yellow were far too bright). The jerseys are really a combination of the first couple of eras: the colors of the first and the differentiated stripe widths of the second. The second era of Flames uniforms (1995-2000) were actually pretty good, sans that ridiculous diagonal stripe. The black was tolerable there, but, to me, not needed. I came up with a concept that combines and modernizes the inaugural and '95 look, getting rid of some unnecessary components. As I've stated with the explanation of the logo, I wanted the concept to evoke the idea of speed, so I kept the idea of the italicized numbers, changing the font to a more modern one. The alternate is pretty straightforward when I tell you that I love it when teams use one color and white in their identity (i.e. Maple Leafs, Red Wings, Jets [NFL], Colts [NFL], etc.). Thanks to those that took the time to read everything and hopefully I won't run into any problems with immature members like I did last time. So without further ado, here's the concept! Tell me what ya think! (Click to enlarge)
  6. I don't do a lot of American football concepts, but here is another whack at one. I based these off of the 00-03 jerseys.
  7. OK, as anyone who has seen any of my previous concepts knows, this is a bit of a departure for me, but I just had an idea and thought I'd chase it. As most of you probably know, years ago metallic gold was part of the U's color scheme. So I thought I'd try to bring it back with a bit of a twist. I'm picturing this as having a high chrome finish on all gold elements (if that's possible) but definitely a mirror chrome finish on the gold elements of both helmets, stripes, facemask, and all. Again, this is not normally the kind of concept I traffic in, but I'm interested in seeing what anyone thinks.
  8. Having watched plenty of Miami Dolphins games and a handful of Hurricanes games, I'm starting to get annoyed by the end zone paint job. I know it's probably a silly thing to worry about, and I'm aware that by just putting MIAMI in orange and white it gives them a nice generic design that doesn't need tinkering with before every game. However, it looks to me like the Steelers and Panthers stopped doing the generic thing at Heinz Field, so why can't the Dolphins and 'Canes? If they're going to flip flop the U logo and the Dolphins logo, they might as well do the end zones as well, right? Thoughts?
  9. The Carolina Hurricanes unveiled their new uniforms this morning. Voice your approval or displeasure. My own opinion, they're a major downgrade and I'm disappointed. UPDATE: June 5th 2013 1:21AM PST Poll on the Canes.com message boards titled "Do you like the new uniforms?" is currently leading with 77.78% No http://fans.hurricanes.nhl.com/community/topic/21505-do-you-like-the-new-uniforms/ I'm not the least bit surprised.
  10. After the Carolina Hurricanes' disastrous unveiling, I thought I'd start a thread where we could all post our own concepts for what we would have done. In particular, it would be nice to see some concepts that tried to stay true to what the Canes claimed they were looking for (simpler, more classic, more red, whatever...), but everyone feel free to do what you like. Let's see what we could have come up with instead. Lots of ideas and feedback would be great! I'll be posting my own shortly.
