INTRODUCTION INTO THE UNITED STATES CRICKET ASSOCIATION Hello and welcome to the United States Cricket Association. The United States Cricket Association was founded by a group of Englishmen voyaging to the United States. The league started up with 4 teams in 1855. These teams were the Boston Siege, the Philadelphia Liberty, the Brooklyn Gardens, and the Baltimore Vultures. One of the original great players was Aaaqil Ali, great-grandfather of Moeen Ali (All-Around for the Worcestershire team). After Aaaqil got the league set up and going and started playing good, Ali was called in for the Indian Rebellion. The war lasted 18 months, but Ali only spent 9 with the army. After the war, Ali returned to the U.S for 2 seasons, before eventually returning to England. While Westward Expansion boomed, the league grew as well. It wasn't until 1925 when the league expanded outside of the continent of North America. There were some famous players in the USCA, such as, Javan Marley (Bob Marley's Gret Grandpa), and Leo Bolt (Usain Bolt's Great-Great Grandpa).

I know what you're thinking, another US Soccer concept? Stay with me on this one. When US Soccer went through their rebranding, I was really excited. I thought nothing could get as bad as how the team's branding was before. However, the brand went in a completely different direction than I wanted. I think the federation in general should have taken on a more vintage, collegiate look instead of trying to be very modern with their designs. The font is too spread out and rounded for me, while the kits look way too modern and futuristic. In addition, instead of building on old jersey designs and giving them a breath of fresh air, it seems as if every cycle they just try to come up with something completely different. The federation is ignoring the 100+ years of history and other uniquely American design elements that they can bring to the table to honor the history of soccer in America. With this concept for the 2018 World Cup, I intended to hearken back to the storied history of the national team and give America a classic, vintage, traditional, but modern look. With this new set of kits, the idea was to establish a new orthodoxy of how US Soccer designs kits. I struggled quite a bit with which of the many looks the team has had over the years to retain, but I tried to keep it as simple as possible. The primary kit must always be primarily white, the secondary be primarily blue, and the alternate to feature some kind of red and white striping. So, let's start with the primary kit. I went with the standard US white kit, but with some special touches. The concept of the primary kit is to create a kit that pays homage to the national team's history and unrelenting fighting spirit. I chose to draw from the famous Gadsden Flag and the image of the rattlesnake. First, the jersey crest is located on the chest, in homage to the original US Soccer jerseys. A diamond design inspired by rattlesnake skin is sublimated on the front of the jersey. The kit is rounded out with navy shorts, and socks with subtle hoop designs. Additionally, "Don't Tread on Me" lies on the inside of the kit under the collar. The secondary kit draws from decades of US Soccer employing a sash on kits. This installment features a dark navy sash across the jersey. The shorts feature red stripes down the side, and are paired with inverted socks. "EST. 1913" lies under the collar on the inside of the jersey. Lastly is the Waldo-style alternate kit. Only for special occasions, such as big rivalry games, the main feature of the kit is obviously the red and white stripes. Darker red pinstriping lies inside of the red stripes. The kit borrows the shorts and socks from the primary set. "Stars and Stripes Forever" lies under the collar on the inside of the kit. With this set of kits, the US gets a classic look that draws from a lot of different eras and influences, but still retails the sleek minimalist look that Nike is currently producing. This is the USBL. The United States Baseball League is comprised of 32 teams. There are 4 divisions, (North, South, East and West) with 8 teams in each division. Team names and designs are inspired by the 1900’s - 1940’s baseball era. The USBL has a 100 game season. Each division winner makes the playoffs. There are also 4 wild card spots. Each division winner automatically gets a 1, 2, 3 or 4 seed. The teams with the next four best records will get the 5, 6, 7 and 8 seeds. US Soccer Copa America When a team is celebrating the anniversary of something they will usually use classic jerseys, just look at the Canadiens 100th, the Ducks' 20th, and so on. For the 100th anniversary of the Copa America, US Soccer did not do this. So I came up with this concept. The home is very clean and a bit similar to the US's 2013 kit, which was a throwback to the US's Original soccer kits in 1930. After seeing the actual away kits that the US will wear which feature red and blue split sleeves and a black base I came up with this more traditional split kit. Ultimately, with US Soccer releasing their newer, cleaner, crisper logo, I think kits like these would be the perfect bring in the new era of US Soccer. Let me know what you guys think, I set up a poll so feel free to vote. I am open to creative criticism so throw any suggestions out there. Please don't bother telling me the font looks bad because I know. I am a bit of a stickler for using the correct font and since I could not find the actual font the US will use this summer to download, I copy and pasted the font from an image and re sized and recolored it. I'd love to get some thoughts on this jersey design I created for the USA Ball Hockey jersey contest. I created two custom logos along with a custom keyboardable font. The theme I'm rolling with is the "Red, White, & Blue for Gold" hence the gold leaf accents. Feel "free" to cast your vote Here! Hey guys, I have a few redesigns for the States and was debating whether or not to put it in the Concepts thread even though its not sports. I'll put it here for now and see how the feedback is - if there even is any. Living in Ontario, we have had pretty much the same license plates since the 70's, maybe longer. Seeing plates from the States, well it seems some change every year instead of just using a Registration Sticker. For my redesign, I will have a maximum of 2 plate options per state - with the exception of California - There will be 3 plates shown of each design; a Vanity (personalized), Normal (3 numbers and 3 letters regardless of how said state spells theirs out) and Blank. Some plates may be restricted to the number of letters - 6 being the minimum, but most will have an 8 letter limit. I'm trying to make these plates look good enough to last 10 years. I am not doing separate plates for Trucks. If it looks like a truck, it's a Truck, no need to make a different one because it's a "commercial" vehicle. I will not make Government/Veteran/Alumni plates. Since I am not American, I am interested in any sort of feedback especially on your home state. I will do my best to avoid stereotypes or anything that may be offensive. Enjoy. Edit (April 29): This will now be a worldwide License plate redesign thread. I usually post my concepts once they're pretty well developed but I thought I'd try jumping in a bit earlier in the process this time. It started with a doodle. I was on a call the other day and I started doodling a soccer ball. I was zoning out and thinking about the World Cup coming up and how terrible our current crest was. As I was sketching I started turning the pentagonal panels of the ball into another 5-centric shape, a star. Now, I've since done some Google searching and I've learned that I'm clearly not the first person to make this geometric connection. However, that makes it all the more painful to me that the US Soccer logo doesn't utilize it! Today I did some more sketches and came up with a layout that I think works quite well for a crest (excuse the terrible S, I've always struggled with that letter): The star-studded ball defines the bottom shape of the crest (I've always loved crests that use this shape). Then there are red & white stripes which pay homage to the Centennial crest and fixes the dumbfounding blue stripe issue with the current crest. Lastly a bold, block USA at the top rather than the Helvetica Bold Italic they use now. Like I said, still rough but I think it has some potential. I'll update later with some vector comps. After completing my Canadian Rugby Premiership, I've had a few requests to do a similar concept for the US. So I thought I'd get the topic started now to generate some ideas before starting on the concepts. The CRP has 12 clubs, but I think this league will consist of 16 (with potential expansion in the future). I am now taking suggestions for the following: 1. League name As I mentioned in the CRP thread, I'd like to avoid the word 'league' so as to avoid confusion with the sport of rugby league (this being a rugby union competition). Some of my ideas: National Rugby Union, National Rugby Association, American Rugby Union, American Rugby Association. I'll change the thread name once a name has been decided upon. 2. Club locations Like I said, 16 clubs to begin with. Only 1 team per city (no NYC and NJ/Long Island, for example). I think the only guarantees are NY, LA and Chicago. Keep in mind where rugby is popular (Wikipedia says New England and Colorado/Utah) as well as where there are suitable facilities (BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston has hosted a lot of rugby events). The Las Vegas Sevens tournament is one of the most popular in the world, so maybe LV would be a good spot for a club? 3. Club names/colours/identities Much like I did with the CRP I'd like to combine traditional rugby club names (in the CRP I used Harlequins and Blues), traditional North American sporting nicknames (CRP examples: Giants, Prairie Dogs) and teams without official nicknames (Ottawa RFC in the CRP). I'd like there to be some connection between location and identity. In the CRP I resurrected the Toronto St. Pats name that used to be a hockey team. I would consider doing the same in this competition. Let's hear your ideas. I'll get started later in the week.
