  1. While I'm pretty happy with how the Cubs City Connect uniforms turned out given how poorly the initial jersey leak was received, I still think it would have been interesting had the team gone with a solid green design to mimic the famous ivy on Wrigley's outfield walls. Let me know what you think!

While this isn’t quite that, it’s easily the closest I’ve come (full uniform sets for all 30 teams). With that in mind, I hope you enjoy what I’ve cooked up. The premise is this: What if every MLB team had kept more or less the same uniform they were wearing when they first came into the league, bending to current trends and sensibilities only when absolutely necessary, essentially freezing them in time? What would a league that has been around since the mid-1800s and seen expansion and relocation spanning over 150 years look like today? Well, wonder no further. I'll be posting teams in a totally random order, alternating between AL and NL clubs, starting today with the: CALIFORNIA ANGELS (est. 1961) HOME: ROAD: ALT: Notes: - Even though the Halos originally went by the name “Los Angeles Angels,” I chose the “California” moniker to make use of that excellent “CA” monogram from 1965. Plus, there’s the whole fact that Anaheim isn’t actually in Los Angeles. - Inspired by the Halos’ City Connect unis, I decided to eliminate outlines altogether and segregate the red and navy while going with cream over clean white for the home set. - I worked up a new “CALIFORNIA” wordmark in the style of the “ANGELS” wordmark and cap logo and also found matching numbers. - The alt would ideally be worn only at home, as the cream would probably clash with the gray pants. C&C appreciated! The first NL team will be up next.
  3. Another thought exercise has produced another (mini) series! Relocation has always been a big part of Major League Baseball, particularly in the mid-20th century. Several teams who moved (including the Senators, Pilots and Expos) started afresh with new identities, logos and uniforms. In contrast, other team names, such as the Braves and Athletics, have survived as many as three cities and counting. But what if those teams who moved had decided to rebrand? This series is a short trip through an alternate timeline in which every team who relocated but kept their original name instead adopted a new identity and uniforms, logos, etc. along with it. I'll be posting chronologically, starting in the 1950s and posing the question: What if the Boston Braves became the Milwaukee Brewers? HOME: ROAD: Notes: - From 1947-52, the Brewers served as the AAA affiliate of the Boston Braves and wore navy & red uniforms resembling those of their parent club. When the Braves moved to Milwaukee in 1953, they kept the same basic uniforms, changing only their cap logo and adding front numbers. - A stalk of wheat replaces the tomahawk and adds a nice pop of gold to the front of the jerseys. C&C appreciated! Things will get a little more interesting from here on out.
  4. Inspired by Ebbets Field Flannels' new line of vintage baseball sweaters, I wanted to close out 2022 with a fun little series that brings those designs into the modern day. I added a Nike swoosh to the front of the sweaters to reinforce that these are not just throwbacks, but modern updates. I should also mention that I'll also only be doing teams who were actually around in the 1920s-30 (when this style of sweaters was still being worn). Big thanks to @Victormrey for helping me out with the long-sleeved sweater template. Starting off with a combination AL & NL West, all of whose teams have since relocated to other cites: (OAKLAND) A's: A green and gold design with double breasted elephants inspired by these Philadelphia A's sweaters. (LOS ANGELES) DODGERS: This design is based on this Brooklyn Robins' sweater, with the Dodgers' "LA" replacing Brooklyn's block "B." (SAN FRANCISCOS) GIANTS: San Francisco's look is actually a combination of two designs: this earlier one which features contrasting pockets, and this later one which is primarily blue with red trim (or in this case, black with orange). C&C appreciated!
  5. A while back, I was inspired to create a series of MLB x Negro League mashup designs. Unlike @Carolingian Steamroller's fantastic Negro League Teams in the Present Day project, which sought to imagine what NLB teams would like today had they been absorbed into MLB, this series seeks to combine Negro League identities with the aesthetics of the Major League teams with whom they shared (or would eventually share) a city. Without further ado, here are the Miami Giants: MIAMI GIANTS HOME: MIAMI GIANTS ROAD: MIAMI GIANTS HOME ALT: MIAMI GIANTS ROAD ALT: Notes: - My Giants design is heavily influenced by the 1996-99 Florida Marlins, with ocean blue replacing teal and pink/magenta replacing silver. - While the actual Miami Giants allegedly wore black, blue and red, I took a little artistic license and went with a more Miami Vice-centric color scheme. - The scripts come from the Miami Giants fauxback jersey offered by Ebbets Field Flannels. C&C appreciated as always! Another team will be up soon.
  6. While Nike's City Connect program aims to pay tribute to each team's respective city, I wanted to come up with designs that would specifically honor MLB ballparks, some of which have been around for the better part of a century or longer. Much like the City Connect designs, you'll see color schemes, scripts and patterns you wouldn't normally see on a team's every day unis. Full disclosure, I'm not particularly inclined to tackle teams whose parks are named after corporations, so apologies in advance if your team gets passed over. I might end up changing my mind about that, though. We'll see. We'll start today with the Red Sox and Fenway Park: Some notes: - Primary color is Green Monster Green. - The font used for the script and back numbers is called Senator Demi and is based on this wall art welcoming fans to the ballpark. - McAuliffe style front numbers enclosed in a white circle are inspired by the retired numbers displayed on Fenway's right field facade. C&C appreciated! I already have a few of the other more well-known parks ready to go, but I'll probably need help with most of the others, so suggestions are appreciated.
  7. This is a series I've been talking about doing for years with @Victormrey, @Carolingian Steamroller and @MJD7. Vic had the idea that it would be cool if each MLB team had an alternate uniform that displayed both its city AND team name. For this series, I scoured the main site for teams' primary, alternate and wordmark logos--all of which tend to include their full names--for inspiration. Since many teams' current primary/alternate/wordmark logos don't feature their full names, expect some designs to be of throwback in nature. I'll be posting division by division, starting today with the NL West! DODGERS: The Dodgers get a blue alternate that uses the arched block "LOS ANGELES" from their 2008 50th anniversary logo. GIANTS: I gave San Francisco a mono black treatment with a jersey displaying their 2000-present wordmark logo. PADRES: This one's a bit of a fauxback, as I recreated the Friars' 1978 uniforms but with the team's current script and numbers. I feel this one could easily slot into the Padres' uniform rotation, as they don't currently use a gold alternate. ROCKIES: The Rockies design is based on Colorado's Turn Ahead the Clock unis, with the team's current alternate logo and block numbers replacing the TATC jersey's giant mountain range and "futuristic" numbers. DIAMONDBACKS: For Arizona, I brought back the Snakes' classic purple/turquoise/copper color scheme, using a modified version of the team's 1998-2006 alternate logo for the jersey. I'm tempted to try this one in Arizona's current black/Sedona red/turquoise colors, so let me know if anyone is interested in seeing that. That's the NL West! An AL division will be up next.
  8. Recently I've been going back to some of my earliest hand-drawn baseball and "remastering" them in MS Paint. One interesting idea I had way back when was "reversed" MLB identities; essentially, taking (mostly) geographic rivals who share a city or state and swapping recognizable uniform designs with one another. See below: CUBS x 1983 WHITE SOX I felt the Cubs' identity lent itself well to the 1982-86 White Sox design with its use of blue and red. I used the block "CUBS" from their 2014 road alt for the jersey and a modified version of the "angry bear" logo for the cap. WHITE SOX x 1942 CUBS I always thought there was something really cool about the zippered 1942 Cubs home uniform, especially with its unusual vest/sleeve design. Turns out it also looks great in black and red for the White Sox. Thanks to @Carolingian Steamroller for suggesting I use the South Siders' 1930-31 jersey logo. C&C appreciated! I'll post more pairs of teams as I finish them.
  9. Hi everyone, For my latest project, I wanted to do address the overabundance of blue & red teams across Major League Baseball. For inspiration, I figured I'd look at the colors of other local teams to create some regional visual unity, similar to the way that all Pittsburgh teams use black and gold. Note that some teams will be using throwback colors of local teams, such as the first team below. We start today with the Texas Rangers in the San Antonio Spurs' fiesta colors. Thanks to @Victormrey for the suggestion! RANGERS HOME RANGERS ROAD RANGERS HOME ALT 1 RANGERS HOME ALT 2 RANGERS HOME ALT 3 RANGERS ROAD ALT C&C appreciated! Another team will be up soon.
