Inspired by @Carolingian Steamroller's excellent Negro League Teams in the Modern Day thread, I decided to reimagine the eight teams of the Players' League of 1890 for 2022. Most of the teams will have very obvious visual inspirations from current day MLB teams, which I'll explain in my descriptions below. The first team is the Brooklyn Ward's Wonders: WONDERS HOME: WONDERS ROAD: WONDERS ALT: Visual inspiration: Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets The Wonders were conceived as the visual love child of the Dodgers and Mets. I reworked the "Dodgers" script and used a great baseball-y font called "Retrofunk" to create the "Wonders" script. The stars on the jersey were inspired by the Dodgers' 1992 Hollywood Stars uniforms, and the arched Tuscan style "Brooklyn" on the road is akin to the Mets' road "New York" lettering. The T-bars on the sleeves are a nod to the Dodgers' Brooklyn days. C&C appreciated! I'll have another team up soon.
Last year, the Athletics released a style guide meant to be applied to their online content: from player pictures to advertising. This guide features quite an unique colour scheme and set of textures which I think could create the most distinctive identity in the whole Majors. I have used the featured gradient and 3D wordmarks/logos as key elements, creating a new piping style for the sleeves using the wavy texture as inspiration. When it comes to colours, I have gone for the “Vintage White” shade for the home uniform, trying to create a custom grey-ish shade of green for the road design, inspired by the powder blue uniforms from the 70’s and the 80’s. The alternate jerseys feature the “Vibrant Green” and the “A’s Green” colours. Also, I added the sunglasses elephant (with some gradients) as sleeve patch, and a #22 based on the font featured on the project. What do you think about the concept? Any feedback or idea is more than welcome!
