  1. Hi everyone, For my latest project, I wanted to do address the overabundance of blue & red teams across Major League Baseball. For inspiration, I figured I'd look at the colors of other local teams to create some regional visual unity, similar to the way that all Pittsburgh teams use black and gold. Note that some teams will be using throwback colors of local teams, such as the first team below. We start today with the Texas Rangers in the San Antonio Spurs' fiesta colors. Thanks to @Victormrey for the suggestion! RANGERS HOME RANGERS ROAD RANGERS HOME ALT 1 RANGERS HOME ALT 2 RANGERS HOME ALT 3 RANGERS ROAD ALT C&C appreciated! Another team will be up soon.
  2. Hi everyone! I hope you're all staying safe and healthy during this strange, uncertain time. Since I've had more time on my hands than usual, I decided to revisit an extensive MLB project I began a while back. The premise is simple: What if each MLB team (except, of course, the Yankees) began adopting alternate uniforms starting in the 1960s? Rather than just choose an arbitrary year, I decided on 1963 as my specific starting point as that was the year the Kansas City Athletics introduced their solid green and gold uniforms. Some designs will be inspired by teams' era-appropriate batting practice jerseys, while others will be completely original. Also, teams with co-dominant colors (such as the Pirates and their black and gold) will get multiple alternates, one for each color. I tried to be as comprehensive as possible, but if I neglect to include a particular look from any team's post-1963 history--no matter how brief--please do not hesitate to point it out. I briefly considered posting teams by era, but given how convoluted that would become (some teams might introduce an alternate in the '70s and wear it for 20 years, while others might have one for only two or three seasons in the '60s, for instance) I ultimately decided to just go team by team in alphabetical order. Since the D-Backs were born in the era of alternates, we'll start instead with the Braves. C&C appreciated! BRAVES HOME ALT (1966-71) BRAVES ROAD ALT (1966-71) BRAVES HOME/ROAD ALT (1972-75) BRAVES HOME ALT (1976-86) BRAVES ROAD ALT (1976-86) BRAVES HOME ALT (2000s)* *The Braves introduce a gold home alt in the 2000/2010s because why not? I think it looks cool. I didn't do any late '80s-early 2000s alternates as they would look more or less the same as their current alternates. C&C appreciated!
  3. Hello. I am an animator and video editor and I have been working on and off on a logo redesign project for the better part of a year now (with long stretches of inactivity) as a way to get better at illustrator and I thought I would make an account here for some critique. I started really getting in to logo design when I came across a black and white and horribly pixelated design for a Fleur De Lis that I thought could be made into a St. Louis Blues logo, and after contacting the owner of the shop and asking about it and if I could mess with it, I did. I didn't really think it worked well as a main logo, but I did think it worked as a shoulder patch. I did it in a couple other colors as well and took the wordmark from the actual St. Louis Blues sheet music after an idea from the kind folks on the Blues subreddit. Over a year later I thought I decided I needed to get better at illustrator so I started designing alternate/shoulder logos for the rest of the league. I'm "done" with about 1/4 of the league at this point. Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear suggestions on what I need to improve on, but keep in mind I dont really know what I am doing. Also, if there is a better way to format this let me know. St. Louis Original: Wordmark: Colors: Revision: I did Minnesota next, where I thought a roundel logo would look cool. I did two variants of the same logo and one that was a riff on their main logo. 1: 2: 3: Colorado This one I actually think could stand up as a main logo. I got rid of their ugly "Millennium swoops' Winnipeg Classic colors: Modern Colors: Revision: Toronto: based on the city of Toronto's flag Ottowa: I wanted to play off their older logo that everyone loves so much without just making it an exact copy Revision: Buffalo: I took the crossed swords from their red logo days and put them behind the skull I drew. Penguins: I replaced the iconic triangle with a Pennsylvania keystone. Hopefully that doesn't make me a heretic. Revision: I put the penguin in a complete keystone and I like it, but I still think the half keystone looks better. Lightning: Honestly something's missing from this one, but everything I add makes it look worse so I decided to ask you all what you think. the L works pretty good but it seems empty. Again, these aren't really meant to replace the logo front of the jersey, most are meant to be shoulder patches, but this one feels empty. Revision: Wordmark: I thought trying to make it a wordmark would work a little bit better, and it does in some aspects, but it feels really empty still. Canadiens: I took the Fleur from the Montreal flag and tried to turn it in to an "M"which I think works pretty well, but I do think it needs some more polishing. I don't really like this better than their current logo but I think something like it could work as a shoulder patch 1: 2: Stars: I took their old star logo and updated the colors and added a recolored Texas flag. Then I removed the wordmark and had the star go through the middle of a D in the same style as the other letters 1: 2: After a bit of a hiatus, I am back. I took the Spirit of Detroit and added wings to it. I am not sure if I want to add something in his hands but I am pretty proud of this logo My ham-fisted attempt to make the Wings one more Art Deco: I have had this Preds logo in my back pocket for a little while now, its super simple and is kind of a combination of their shoulder patch and chest logo. I plan on doing another one for the Preds as well but I thought I'd post this one just to get an idea of what you guys think Bruins: I changed the black to brown and put a modern style bear logo in the middle of the spokes, I think it could work as an alt shoulder patch. Panthers: In my honest opinion, the Panthers shoulder logo is absolutely perfect, so I can’t do better than that. I’m working on a retro nose art one but if I can’t find any reference images this will be what I work off of
  4. With all the new stuff happening in the NHL, here's a few ideas to kick around...
  5. Hey everyone! So, with the 16/17 regular season having just come to an end, i figured I'd get a start on some jersey concepts for the highlights of the 17/18 season, the outdoor games. I'm not sure how long it'll take me to complete them, but I will finish all 8 teams before the season starts. So without further ado, here's my first team of the NHL 100 Classic, the Ottawa Senators!
  6. I sent this one into HJC for the contest, and I figured "Why not post it here?" So here's my Ottawa Senators concept. I know nobody likes the Adidas stripes, but I didn't really notice them at all during the World Cup. They look bad on paper, but in real life I don't think they're all bad. So aside from the Adidas stripes, what do you think?
  7. The Kings miniseries went so well, I'm doing it again, this time with the Penguins! Like last time, I'm taking various styles the Pens have worn in their history, and sort of jumbling up which logos and colors are used, and also giving the Pens a suitable opponent and giving them similar treatment. Here's the itinerary: 60s Night: vs Rangers 70s Night: vs. Barons Blue Jackets 80s Night: vs Capitals 90s Night: vs Sabres 2K Night: vs Senators possible bonus nights: 90s Alt Night (TBD), Pittsburgh Hornets Night (likely vs. Flyers) So without further ado, 60s Night vs. the New York Rangers As is already known, what's old is new again as the Pens return to yellow gold...and here, the Pens' jersey uses the striping from the original set from 1966, only in the current colors. Took a little liberty by using shoulder crests at all...and now to the Broadway Blueshirts, whose set is red-heavy...because I felt like giving you something to complain about Seriously, though, picking a 60s opponent was tricky. I didn't want to dip into the opposite conference if I can help it, I don't want to use a given opponent more than once, and given these are for THIS season, the opponent kinda needs to be a current NHL team, albeit the history being dipped into doesn't necessarily need to be from the NHL (I'm leaning towards Blues and Stars series after this one, and I'm likely gonna dip into the WHA and a southern minor league or two). Far as the 60s go, the only Original 6 teams that look noticeably different from how they do now are the Leafs and Bruins, and not by a whole lot. Hell, I'm mildly surprised I was able to squeeze anything out of the Rangers, given how rarely they've strayed from their diagonal script. Later on, 70s Night vs. the Blue Jackets as the Barons...til then, speak on it.
  8. I've been a fan of the Ottawa Senators peace tower logo for over a decade, but feel it needs to be modernized. I decided to use my new dot graph book and technical markers to redo this logo. Here's the original for reference: http://www.sportslogos.net/logos/view/157/Ottawa_Senators/2001/Alternate_Logo
