Somebody grew up in the 70's/80's. What I've learned number one on these boards: majority of the time, if it's from the 60's/70's/80's, it's better than "the crap" that is out there today. Not because it actually is better (some cases it is better but it's about 50/50 let's be real), but because most people on these boards are older/middle aged men who grew up in that time period, and they grew up with that look and to them that is the best.

I grew up in the 1970s and 80s. I'd like most of the fashions from those eras placed at the bottom of a very deep hole, covered with a layer of industrial nuclear waste and then buried under six feet of concrete.

I know you have a better argument than trying to paint everyone else with an exceptionally broad brush. I certainly wouldn't want to paint all 22-year-olds as insulated kids who don't know the difference between timeless style and passing fads. :P

I didn't say all I said most. and sadly, most 22 year olds love flashy passing fads like Chrome lids and bright colors, so you're pretty accurate haha. And while I love almost everything Oregon has trotted out and some teams can rock modern (TCU, FSU, OSU come to mind), I am sadly in the minority that I love a good ole fashioned Alabama-LSU matchup.

I'm 22 and I'm pretty much the same way. Love when modern is done right like the aforementioned teams, but the Giants have one of my favorite football uniforms. Home and away.

And yeah roman I think everyone in Houston feels the same way about the new astros set. It just feels right. And that's because I didn't even grow up with them ever wearing navy and orange aside from a few throwbacks but it just feels right now. And I had to get a new cap the christmas following their release.

I said it back when espnboy13 made that comment and I'll say it again. It's a bunch of nonsense. I'm 27. I was born in 1987. I grew up in the 90s and 2000s when purple/teal combos, crazy redesigns, and the darkening of primary colours were all the rage. Yet I prefer looks from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Saying "you only like 'classic' looks because you grew up with them" is not only demeaning to those who legitimately prefer those looks but it's also incorrect. There are plenty of uniforms from the decades that proceeded my birth that I would take over the more "modern" looks that I was there to witness first hand.

Because nobody should wear the TATC's.

And I'm personally torn on the Diamondbacks. The purple and teal are a great look (I bought the throwback hat with the white crown), but I really like the "sedona" shade of red (I bought a red shirt).

They do need to replace the "D-Backs" script and use the D snake logo less though.

To me the Sedona Red looks like a cheap knockoff of the Brick Astros. They had a unique colors scheme with the purple and teal. I would bring back the 2001 Home unis, Alts but drop the sleeveless and pinstripes from the road.

This is how I feel about their look as well. While the Sedona red, black, and tan is actually a pretty solid little look, it's just SO lifeless compared to the old scheme they used. If they played in a park that didn't feel like a Costco their current scheme would probably work better, but right now it just makes the whole place look even more drab and depressing. At least the teal and purple spruced that building up a bit.

As for the Diamondbacks, I was excited to learn that they will be doing 7 "Throwback Thursdays" this season. It was kind of a surprise because they haven't broken the purple and turquoise out very often since the switch to Sedona red.

From what I know of the current D-Backs ownership, they aren't big fans of the original look, and wanted to put their stamp on the team. If I recall, there was some bad blood between the other partners and Jerry Colangelo, regarding finances, payroll, etc... effectively forcing him to sell out to them. Anyway, they wanted to rebrand, and got rid of "Jerry's colors" and the tie-in to the Suns with purple.

Judging by what I have seen on Facebook, and other message boards, any time the topic of uniforms or colors is brought up, the response is overwhelmingly in favor of the original look.

IMO, it would be nice if the Thursday promotion was a way to really gauge fan interest in a return to the team's unique past. And props to them if they are actually listening to fans instead of just stubbornly sticking with "their" brand like some other franchises have done.

With that being said, the majority of my friends think anything "crazy" is sick. So all these designs (especially in college football) that a lot of us hate, are loved by many many people.

A friend of mine on my high school hockey team once suggested we get black and neon green alternate jerseys. Despite our school colours being red, white, and grey.

Point being? People, especially kids, liking something doesn't make it good.

I'm torn on how I feel about the D Backs using the throwbacks that many times this season. I absolutely LOVE their throwback uniforms and think they're such a breath of fresh air compared to the dull set they wear now. I wouldn't even mind them going back to those full time. That being said, there was something really awesome about them only being worn once a season. The D Backs really went all out for that game by redecorating the park and it was an awesome time every year they did it. I have a feeling they may half ass it this year because they're doing it so often now. Hopefully they'll at least wear a few different throwback jerseys this season.

As for the style one grows up with, I guess thats why some people on here are vouching for the return of pullover jerseys and sansabelt pants. As for me, I wasn't crazy about the sansabelts, but can tolerate the pullover jerseys.

Checked April 25 on the promo schedule... nothing? What's the "special event"?

I noticed that the Cubs store had all of the 100th anniversary caps still on the site, including these "dark royal" (not really navy) caps for the throwback years through 2013.

Other than the "C" being really tiny, what's different about them?

Reds will be wearing the 1990 throwbacks that game, too. Heard that from the guys over at New Era Cap Talk, and I've yet to see them be wrong. The schedule says the Reds will be releasing US made AC poly throwbacks from that year. Should be released here in a few weeks, and I'm gonna jump all over that the minute they're released because I missed out in 2012 and have been kicking myself ever since.

So that would mean the one-year Cubs roads would be making a comeback. First year they switched back to gray from blue, with lettering that got twice as big in 1991. Interesting. We'll see just how all-in they really are.

EDIT: From the one-year uni thread...

The 1990 Cubs road jersey is my favorite one-year wonder:

A side look, which shows the pants were similar to the 2014 Cubs alt pants:

When he said 1990's Throwbacks, I was hoping for this...

Nope, I think they mean these:

Yup.

New Era has had a ton of trouble producing a pinstripe pattern on their poly American made ACs. It's not really that hard to produce, but it's mainly a cost issue. They'll use the Chinese made caps when a game calls for it, but the league strongly encourages them to use their American made products.

Plus, they already have a good amount of dead stock sitting around from the last time they used the throwbacks in 2012.
