That new helmet is terrible. So is the new uniform. The one thing the Bucs have going for them is that they're consistently awful across the board. Helmet, jersey, pants, players, coaches, owners, fans, all terrible!

Good Helmets / Bad Uniforms:

• In terms of NFL primaries, it would really be hard to argue that someone is worse than the Bengals. A 30-year modern-classic helmet that, while considered crazy in the 1980s, has come to be accepted and loved by most. And the original tiger stripe uniforms went with it so well. As revolutionary as the helmet was, it was not over-done. Not so from the neck down where they hop on all sorts of goofy trends. When they made the change, I think we all said "at least the kept the great helmet." I don't know though...maybe if they'd changed the helmet, there'd have been outcry and the Bengals would look great by now.
• For college, I could not really come up with a great example; maybe Northwestern, who has not added black to the helmet. There are a few examples of one-off jerseys with standard helmets, I am sure. I think there are more in college the other way around (good uniform, bad helmet)

Good Uniform / Bad Helmet

• First off, not the Jags. Their uniforms suck too.
• Best current example I have is the Titans. I actually like their uniforms. But I hate their helmet logo. The flames on the circle are just silly. It makes no sense.
• A past example is the Patriots of the 1980s. I loved the simplicity of that red jersey with the UCLA stripes. And at the time, I was fine with the helmet...And did not like Elvis. But I actually prefer Elvis now. Pat the Patriot was far too detailed for a helmet.
• South Florida (2005-2009). I like their color scheme and most of their uniforms used it well. But the black logo on the helmet was a huge letdown.
• Kansas (current) and ASU (Sparky): Unpopular opinion, but I HATE mascots on helmets.
• UCLA (great uniforms before Adidas put them in the dryer). "Ucla" is not a word and I don't really like the use of dark blue and gold. I'd rather the helmet colors match the jersey colors better.

I'd also say the Ravens.

Always like the uniforms, especially the number font but that logo is horrible, especially on the side shown above where it's flipped awkwardly..

I read somewhere that those uniforms ripped off an old Northwestern numeral font. Did I remember that right?

I read somewhere that those uniforms ripped off an old Northwestern numeral font. Did I remember that right?

It's a similar font to the late 90s Northwestern jerseys, but not a complete rip off.

You can't fix Patriot Pat. It's a terrible logo. Their current one doesn't blow me away but it works fine.

Those were the exact two teams I thought of when I saw the thread title, and for the same reasons.

All of these are ruined by the helmet:

The only good helmet in the IU artillery is the classic IU one with a white facemask.

While those unis aren't the best, they don't have that horrific side panel that ruins the home. I honestly think the Bengals are just a couple of tweaks away from being one of the best looking teams in the NFL.

I'd be much happier with the Bengals if they'd get rid of the white side panels, keep black-orange striping all the way to the top of the pants, and stop putting orange stripes on black backgrounds on the sleeves. Although it doesn't get talked about as much, that last one is just as big a problem as the other two.
