neo_prankster 3,373 Posted October 1, 2014 In the middle of the game, I thought for sure the Athletics would have this game in a take out box.Learned the hard way not to count out KC.I'm still confused if this would be a potential comeback for the Royals, or a potential A's choke job.

FGM13 767 Posted October 1, 2014 Winning run is on third for Sal Perez. Don't strike out again.
CS85 10,512 Posted October 1, 2014 Winning run is on third for Sal Perez. Don't strike out again. He promptly swings at a pitch that nearly hit him in the face for strike 1.

the admiral 28,294 Posted October 1, 2014 This is just a great night for baseball no matter how it ends. I love seeing Kauffman Stadium so alive. I never have, not in real time.

neo_prankster 3,373 Posted October 1, 2014 Billy Beane's going to turn to smallball.Could this be the end of Moneyball in Oakland?
FiddySicks 11,052 Posted October 1, 2014 That would require an influx of, well... Money. So no, of course not.
OnWis97 4,528 Posted October 1, 2014 Billy Beane's going to turn to smallball.Could this be the end of Moneyball in Oakland?Well, most of MLB has caught up with his philosophies on player value. But his unconventional philosophies (which I generally agree with) never seem to pan out in the post season. I hate the idea of the Joe Morgans of the world being right that you have to sacrifice and steal in the post season, but KC did just that to them to force extras.

FiddySicks 11,052 Posted October 1, 2014 Eric Hosmer's two-run bomb in the bottom half of the inning is gonna be so epic.
HedleyLamarr 1,393 Posted October 1, 2014 Thinking about this game currently being in the 12th inning and possibly going longer.....I wonder how each team constructed their roster for this Wild Card game. Standard bullpen, the game's starting pitcher, maybe one other starting pitcher just in case the game runs long, and the rest being position players? In other words, 8-9 pitchers and 16-17 position players? Or go with the normal roster setup like you'd have during April-August and during a playoff series? Seems to me that it'd be foolish to place your entire 4- to 5-man starting rotation on the active list for this one game. Have two starters active, maybe an extra reliever, and the rest be position players.Of course, the 25-man roster doesn't get utilized as much in the American League as it does in the National League. As I type this, the Athletics go up by 1, so it may be a moot point by now.....
