The Rays have gotta be the quirkiest team in the majors right now. Not only this, but with the themed road trips (Country clubs, hockey sweaters, Wild West), then the random stirrups, now the plaid. I guess the team really is a reflection of their manager, since Maddon was known to be a little eccentric before he got the job as the Rays skipper.

I wonder how much eccentricity would surface if Maddon weren't managing in the backwateriest backwater of the major leagues. "Well, my Cubs just had a 1-5 road trip, so we're gonna put underpants on our heads and bunny slippers over our cleats. Couldn't hurt!"

We shall see, 2010 me, we shall see!

I'm just happy to say on behalf of all the hoodie-wearers everywhere that MLB is back in line with a subculture that I can really, truly identify with.

Maddon's a hoot. I wish he were my team's manager instead of his doddering check-cashing old predecessor.
Be careful what you wish for :/

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

You can say what you want about the wild card, the Giants won when it counted, thanks in large part to Bumgarner. Would you still be bitter about the Royals if they won as a wild card?

3 out of 5 is a dynasty, like it or not. They simply know how to win in the postseason... They find a way - and they aren't rattled by the pressure. They seem to thrive on it.

Will they be back? Who knows. It's hard to count them out if they punch a postseason ticket. However as a Giants fan, it's been a great run so far.

Well the giants one so there is noting I can say about that, but the dynasty talk is outrageous. You cant be a dynasty and miss the playoffs twice in the same year certainly after last finish. You should at least be contending for the title in all five years. The spurs are a dynasty they haven't missed the playoffs in almost 20 years. The early 2000s Lakers were in the finals or the WCF. I don't consider the Kings a dynasty yet but they at least went to the WCF in the year they didn't win. Have the giants been a great team? Yes. Have they been a dynasty? No.

9,507 days and counting home skillet!

Every one of those day's have been a failure for the dodgers. I didn't say I wouldnt take what the Giants have done this is a great team, just growing up as a Lakers fan I know a dynasty when I see one, this isn't a dynasty and had the Dodgers done this the way the giants did missing the playoffs in two of the five years I wouldnt consider it one.

Agree to disagree. They're, what? The third team in the history of the game to win three titles in 5 seasons? That's pretty dynastical if you ask me. And look at it like this. In the time that Bruce Bochy has been the Giants manager, they've NEVER lost a post season series.

Would your opinion change if next year the Giants break the mold and they go on another deep post season run?

No, but my opinion would change if they won another couple of titles.

I think what the Giants have been able to do over the last five years is a great feat but being a fan of two teams that had dynasties I just don't think this qualifies. Using the two examples from my fandom, the Yankees from 98-01 (some argue the length due to the playoff appearance run and extend it to 03 but I don't) were a dynasty, The Islanders from 80-84 were a dynasty. Both thoroughly dominated their leagues throughout those years. I'll even include the mid-late 80's Oilers in this group as well (though not a fan of theirs.)

The Giants just haven't done so and particularly glaring are not making the playoffs in 2011 and that sub .500 2013 season. I'd be more comfortable calling the Giants a dynasty if they were at least a playoff team in the two years they didn't win the World Series. Thus, if they win a couple more World Series in a row then by all means call them a dynasty but right now I just can't do that.

Marlins should have hired Maddon, but i guess they are too :censored:ing cheap to pay the man.

Why do the Rays, A´s and Marlins have such cheap a-hole owners ? :(

You can't just hire someone - they have to want to work there. Why on earth would anyone want to work for the Marlins? It would be going from the worst situation in baseball to the second or third worst.

Governments excluded, you can't spend money you don't have.
But they still get their share of all the profits.

The parks are only half full compared to NY, LA , STL, i admit that, but there are still paying fans, and revenue sharing and TV money still has to be alot of money, these owners must be pocketing the money themselfes

Sometimes I think people don't consider the Giants a dynasty because they don't have a monster superstar with a huge attitude. Posey is their biggest star and most consider Molina a better catcher, so he's not even a first ballot all star.

No matter, Posey has 3 rings, rookie of the year, MVP, a few all star nods, and Comeback POY.

Bumgarner is 25 and has 3 rings. Not bad,

I still don't get how some don't consider Buster Posey a super star.

Because he's a catcher. There's never any love for catchers anymore in this day's MLB it seems.

And personally I don't see the Giants as a dynasty. Dynasty's don't take a year off every other year. A semi-dynasty or better yet a playoff dynasty if you will, but an actual dynasty? No. If the Cards had won the title this year would people be calling them a dynasty? Hell no.

Cardinals -- Rams -- Blues -- Tigers -- Liverpool
