NHL Standing Predictions

PACIFIC

1.ANAHEIM(118 pts.)

2.LA KINGS(112 pts.)

3.SAN JOSE(105 pts.)

4.VANCOUVER\CALGARY(WC 89-102 pts.)

5.Calgary\Vancouver(78-89 pts.)

6.Arizona\Edmonton(67-76 pts.)

7.Edmonton\Arizona(57-65 pts.)

Reasons

Calgary is tough and is made up of players who won't give an inch on the ice to another team without grinding them into mulch with that and Bob Hartley they could make a wild card spot

probably not going to happen but hey they're getting there.

Colorado was not the best team on paper last year and I think this year they will regress as they lost a few key pieces and gained a few old slow guys as well.

To much talent in NY and NJ that soon people might refer to that as the trio of death in the east.

Detroit's to old and frail and will barely miss the playoffs due to that the roster is good but not good enough situation

Rest of reasons coming soon post your standings\predictions if you'd like.

NOT THIS GUY AGAIN!

Too much talent on the Isles now for them to finish last, plus they've gotta have more fight in 'em than the puppy-soft Hurricanes who just wither and die whenever you so much as bump into one of them. Except, of course, for Chad LaRose, who put a headshot on Josh Gorges in retribution for the Jordan Staal injury, which Staal caused himself by trying to tackle Gorges. They can't even goon right.

Pacific: San Jose, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Arizona, Edmonton, Calgary

  • Allow for Edmonton/Calgary flip (Goaltending is throwing me off. Hiller is either going to get Swiss-cheesed, or win them some unwinable games.)

Central: Chicago, St. Louis, Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, Winnipeg

  • Allow for Nashville/Winnipeg flip. (Obviously huge split in goal. But if Budaj is serviceable, I like Winnipeg a little more with their forwards.)
  • Allow for Colorado/Dallas flip, if only just because. Playoff teams won't change though. West is set barring something weird.

Metropolitan: Pittsburgh, NY Rangers, Columbus, Philadelphia, Washington, NY Islanders, New Jersey, Carolina

  • Allow for Rangers/Columbus/Philadelphia/Washington/Islanders flow movement. There are so many variable floating around in the space below Pittsburgh (Rangers center depth, Columbus with Johanssen/Horton, Philadelphia in net, Washington with Trotz, Islanders coalescing or not). I'm almost tempted to throw New Jersey into the flow, because if Schneider can replicate last year and they stay out of/win more shootouts, they'll be right there just like the rest.

Atlantic: Boston, Montreal, Tampa Bay, Detroit, Toronto, Florida, Ottawa, Buffalo

  • Allow for Detroit/Metro WC flip (If only because Detroit is Detroit, the Metro WC will most definitely be in flux, and if healthy, the Red Wings will be better than last year. Their man games lost was astounding. They'll be flirting on the edge.)
  • Allow for Florida/Toronto flip. (The influx of rookies plus a full season of Luongo in net plus the crop of overpaid vets make Florida interesting, especially if they can earn those points from the dregs of the East. It could either all come together for something entertaining or be a big floppy mess.

Why do I fear a Vancouver type season from Sharks where the team implodes and miss the playoffs plus trade players for below their value?

It's gonna be Kings/ Hawks again in the WCF.

Nah, Sharks will win the Pacific only to lose to the Kings in the first round.

Kings as a WC? Bold prediction.

Atlantic: Boston, Tampa Bay, Montreal, Florida, Detroit, Ottawa, Toronto, Buffalo

- Top 3 should pretty much stay unchanged

- Detroit will have a tough transition year and Florida will ride some hot streaks but fall just short

- Sticking the Sens in the middle of the non-playoff teams because they're literally impossible to predict

Metro: Pittsburgh, Columbus, Rangers, Washington, Islanders, Flyers, New Jersey, Carolina

- Well why not Columbus?

- I can't really see the Capitals or Islanders missing out again this year, maybe the Flyers creep in, but they were my odd man out.

Central: St. Louis, Chicago, Dallas, Minnesota, Nashville, Colorado, Winnipeg

- Colorado will drop off, not able to convince myself if they'll fall that far, but in this division it seems really likely to me

- Last year I said Carolina, this year I mean Nashville, and it'll happen, trust me

- Pavelec and Budaj will lead the Jets to the promised land of McDavid

Pacific: Los Angeles, Anaheim, San Jose, Calgary, Phoenix, Edmonton, Vancouver

- Gap between Sharks and Flames will be huge, Hiller for Calgary being the difference in the bottom 4

- Couldn't bear to put Edmonton last again, too many changes after a catastrophic season to see the 'Nucks climb up the hill

- Another peachy year for California <_<

Playoffs because why not?

Boston over NY Islanders -- Pittsburgh over Washington -- Rangers over Tampa Bay -- Columbus over Montreal

St. Louis over Nashville -- Minnesota over Los Angeles -- Anaheim over Dallas -- San Jose over Chicago

Boston over Rangers -- Pittsburgh over Columbus

St. Louis over Anaheim -- Minnesota over San Jose

Boston over Pittsburgh

St. Louis over Minnesota

St. Louis over Boston

You did the playoffs wrong.

It'd be Boston vs Islanders/Pittsburgh vs Washington and Los Angeles vs Minnesota/St. Louis vs Nashville, correct. But then it'd be Columbus vs Rangers/Tampa Bay vs Montreal and Anaheim vs San Jose/Chicago vs Dallas.

Then BOS/NYI vs TB/MTL, PIT/WSH vs CBJ/NYR and LA/MIN vs ANA/SJ, STL/NSH vs CHI/DAL

eugh, just cross your eyes then the standings will change enough that it'll be correct.

The title, "NHL Standing Predictions" leads me to one "standing prediction" that is always correct.

The Wild will be mediocre and their 7th/8th playoff seed will be in question with a few games to play.
