The all-purpose thread for rugby union and rugby league, both at club and international levels.

RWC Qualifying

With the Repechage Play-off being decided with Uruguay defeating Russia in the two-legged tie to qualifying for next year's IRB Rugby World Cup in England, the complete field is set.

Bledisloe Cup

Anyone watch the third tie of the Bledisloe Cup this past weekend? The Wallabies had control of the All-Blacks for a good portion of the match but just couldn't keep the constant pressure of the Kiwis at bay. The Australians came out with alot of passion and fire in this tie, something that wasn't shown in this season's Rugby Championship (except for their 12-12 draw with the All-Blacks in the opening match of the competition, breaking NZLs 18 match unbeaten run). Iyt was a great match to watch from start to end. I am hoping this is the turn around for the Wallabies now.

Fall International Tours

Now that we are in the third week of October that only means that the November fall international tours are upon us in two weeks. The big southern hemisphere rugby nations are going to be travelling north to play their European counterparts. The big matches to look out for with big anticipation are:

November 1 - USA v New Zealand (Soldier Field, Chicago)

November 8 - England v New Zealand (Twickenham, London); Wales v Australia (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff); Ireland v South Africa (Lansdowne Road, Dublin); Scotland v Argentina (Murrayfield, Edinburgh);

November 15 - England v South Africa (Twickenham); Scotland v New Zealand (Murrayfield); France v Australia (Stade de France);

November 22 - Italy v South Africa (Padova); Ireland v Australia (Lansdowne Road); Wales v New Zealand (Millennium Stadium); France v Argentina (Stade de France)

November 29 - England v Australia (Twickenham - Cook Cup); Wales v South Africa (Millennium Stadium)

What matches are everyone looking forward to this fall? Anyone going to the USA-NZL match in Chicago?

I just wish some big names would come farther west to play Canada. I'd love to see a big name country like the Boks or Wallabies play here in Edmonton or even Vancouver. I realise that the major stummbling block for those teams coming here is the turf. A big reason why BMO Field gets all the major Rugby Canada matches is because it is one of the only natural turf fields in Canada that can hold 20,000+ people. I know a few years ago that Commonwealth Stadium was natural for a while and were one of the last ones to convert to field turf.

As for matches I'm looking forward to, the AB's vs. the Eagles in Chicago. I'll actually get to watch it on network television (NBC... Not sure if TSN will carry it though)

  • 3 weeks later...

So the international fixture list started off with a route, the Americans getting destroyed by the All Blacks 74-6 in Chicago last week. It was a good to watch of you were an All Blacks supporter. The Canadians came up with a 18-13 win over Namibia yesterday starting off their tour with a strong victory against a good Namibian side. Canada's next test is weekend against Samoa.

Tomorrow is even more fall international fixtures including:

England v New Zealand (Twickenham, London);

Wales v Australia (Millennium Stadium, Cardiff);

Ireland v South Africa (Lansdowne Road, Dublin);

Scotland v Argentina (Murrayfield, Edinburgh);

Who's watching what fixture? I believe Sportsnet World is showing the England-New Zealand game live. Should be a doozie

I watched the Canada Namibia game and it was a pretty scappy game. Those Namibians put up a good fight. In my opinion, Canada made far too many handling errors and were a bit lucky to come out on top. They will be in tough against Samoa.

Samoa has a good front line but i think the Canadian front line can match them throughout the match. Unfortunately, I think Samoa's pack weight might be their advantage as well as their line-out ability. No matter how you see it, it will be a good match next weekend
