JCRGraphix
I've been busy with work and whatnot, but I found some time to do some concept work. I'm working on a big project for work, but I'm in a creative funk, so I decided to do something for a little bit so I can refocus... So, that being said, I decided to come up with historical football uniforms for my alma mater, the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The school was founded in 1950 and has never had a football team, but for the purpose of this project, they immediately started playing in 1950. UAH didn't have a mascot until 1969, when the school voted of the Uhlan as their mascot. It was shortly tereafter changed to the Uhlan Chargers and then just the Chargers in 1973. For the sake of this project, they picked the name Uhlans in 1950 and used it until 1973... I'll start out first with the 1950s... In 1950, UAH took the field with these simple blue and white uniforms... In 1952, the Uhlans added a contrasting yoke to their uniforms... In 1955, the Uhlans got changed up their striping pattern. They would keep this design for the rest of the decade...
JCRGraphix
Things started to change in the 1960s. In 1960, the Uhlans adopted a blue helmet and this striping pattern which would stick for quite some time...In 1963, the Uhlans added a large stripe and numbers to their helmets...In 1965, some slight changes were made to the striping for a more consistent look...In 1969, the Uhlans made some radical changes adopting a very non-traditional striping pattern. It was not popular, and only lasted one season...
JCRGraphix
The 1970s brought even more changes. In 1970, the Uhlans brought back their previous striping design but with more blue on their home uniforms...In 1974, the newly-named Chargers changed their helmets adding the state of Alabama as a background for the logo...Finally, in 1979, the Chargers added U.A.H. to the front of their jerseys... davidmiller5
When I got to the '79 uniforms, I laughed. Great job with the short shirts that show the belly hair. (Will the bellies come back with the 2014 uniforms? Since they are so tight, linemen's stomachs have gotten a lot of screen time this year.) Clintau24
As a Huntsville native, I'm loving this. A friend that currently attends UAH has a shirt that reads "UAH Football - Still Undefeated" "I believe in Auburn and love it!"
JCRGraphix
Things again changed in the 1980s...In 1982, the Chargers changed up their helmets and for the first time, added names on the back...In 1988, UAH added silver as a tertiary color... JCRGraphix
Things got a little wild in the 1990s as well...In 1992, gray became more prevalent in their uniforms...And in 1996, the Chargers followed the hockey team's lead and replaced gray with red...
