FiddySicks
Apparently, he turned down 7 years/$170 million from the Giants to take 6 years/$155 million from the Cubs. This off season has been an absolute mind:censored:. Enjoy an early start to golf season, I guess. FiddySicks
What, so I can't be frustrated at my team losing out on a top free agent? It's probably better in the long run for the Giants. Still, seeing Pablo practically run out of town, and then seeing Lester take less money to pitch for the Cubs isn't exactly fun. The Six
Giants fans are spoiled now. Since when does the team sign big free agents, anyway? Last ones were Zito and Rowand. I'd say they've done pretty well avoiding the huge names since then.

cmm
The Cubs' offer included a vesting option for a 7th year that could make the deal worth $170 million. I'm curious to see the terms of the option and what would make the 7th year guaranteed.
Tigers6884
As I've already stated, I think the Tigers should just give up on Scherzer returning. If he's not willing to be a “team player”, the a Tigers don't need him. Let him leave and resign Porcello for a few more years. What does 'team player" mean? One who is willing to put the best interests of the team before their own wants. In this case, if Scherzer wasn't being greedy and allowed the Tigers to resign him for less money than other teams would pay him, since the Tigers are in a bit of a tight spot financially. Some notable examples of people who were team players around the world of sports are Tony Gwynn, Mario Lemieux, Walter Payton, and Larry Bird. Nobody should ever be expected to take less money than they're worth. Ever. If they choose to then fine, but to say that someone isn't a team player because they want to earn the market rate for their services is absolutely asinine. It's not his fault the team managed itself into a spot where they can't play they're players. NDFreek
Can't wait to hear my friends talk about seeing Jon Lester on 20 dollar beer night. Cubbies paying for renovations and heavy salaries now. Gonna be good Chicago baseball this summer.

Still, seeing Pablo practically run out of town, and then seeing Lester take less money to pitch for the Cubs isn't exactly fun. He's betting on his ability holding up, and I suppose it's easy to risk $15 million when you've just collected $155 million. If Lester's still a good pitcher after age 36 when the contract's up, he'll almost certainly be able to make more than $15 million in that next year. However, it would be hard to turn down that money for that year. Plus, the Giants are generally a much better run franchise, play in a pitcher-friendly park and don't have all the day games that players complain about.Frankly, I'm surprised the Giants would even offer him that seventh year. These colossal pitcher contracts are ticking time-bombs. You hope to win big in years 1-4, because you know with near certainty that the contract will be an albatross the last few years. Why would the Giants want him for a seventh year?

This has always been such a ridiculous argument. Just because my team has been successful over the last few years doesn't mean I can't be frustrated with missing out on a free agent. Sure, it removes the "long suffering" label, and I certainly wouldn't try to ever play that card, but I'm not going to be reactionless to future events just because of recent success. As I've already stated, I think the Tigers should just give up on Scherzer returning. It's up to you to be a team player and take significantly less so we can fix this." In no other business would that kind of nonsense fly. Why would the Giants want him for a seventh year?I have no idea what motivated him but it occurs to me that it could be that $155 million is a crap-ton of money either way. He has a World Series ring so he can afford the gamble of going to the Cubs, who will probably never win it all but where it would be really awesome to be a part of that first championship if it somehow happens. BBTV
Jimmy Rollins heading to the Dodgers, don't know for whom yet.Apparently as of 20 mins ago it still wasn't totally final, but yeah looks like he's gone.Word on the street is minor league pitcher Zack Lee in return. The thing is, his replacement isn't supposed to be in the majors until '16, so looks like Freddie Galvis will play the role of the transitional short stop for a season.I'd expect Chase Utley to go too now, which allows the Phillies to move Cody Asche to 2nd and play top prospect Maikel Franco at third. The only question left is whether they just pay Ryan Howard $60M to walk away, or if they pay some team $50 to take him. BBTV
word is now that the hold up is Rollins waiving his no-trade. He said on 9/24 that he was definitely coming back next year so maybe he's having second thoughts at the very last second. It's past time to blow the whole thing up so I hope he waives it and just goes. FiddySicks
Marlins just snagged Dee Gordon from the Dodgers, too. Not sure that makes too much sense for LA, but ok. cmm
Supposedly some of the prospects the Dodgers got for Gordon could be part of the Rollins trade, which would explain the delay.
