Hopefully good news for the Rays in Tampa. Ideal scenario would be a park on the water in the new Channelside area Vinik is revitalizing/redoing. Would put it in the same vicinity of the Ice Palace (never forget!) and be about 1000 times more convenient than out in St Pete.

Why? This is a great trade. We get a much needed bat and a much needed outfielder in one player. We traded Porcello after a good season while his value is high.

We add another solid starter to the rotation which already includes Price, Verlander and Sanchez. Use the Scherzer money to get bullpen help. Done.

Rick was my favorite Tiger, and now they're gonna pay a :censored:-ton of money for Scherzer only to have him suck/get injured. If we don't win the World Series with Greedy McGreedypants (Scherzer) in the rotation this year, I will set my Scherzer t shirt ablaze. Hope there's room for me on the Cubs bandwagon.

Good grief, kid. You really aren't old enough to remember 2003.

Alfredo Simon (aka Big Pasta) is a four or five starter. He was a middle reliever for the Reds in 2012 and 2013, but last season he was thrust into the rotation because of injuries. He ended up pitching over his head in the first half and ended up making the All-Star team, but fell back to Earth in the second half.

You're tired of your team being a huge disappointment... so you're going to root for the Cubs? I don't follow. But yes, a good portion of the north side is Michigan transplants who moved to Chicago and became exclusively Cubs fans until 2006 when the Tigers started existing again, so you'd fit right in.

Im a Cubs fan now because they're actually making moves with the idea of wining a championship, not shredding payroll. Wrigley Field is also one of the most beautiful ballparks in baseball, equal only by Fenway Park. I could follow Porcello to Boston, but I don't like some of their fans.

EDIT: I also took a vacation to Chicago this summer and loved the atomospher of both the Cubs and their fan base. They're a team of loveable losers, not just some team that makes you go WTF!?!?!?!?

I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh and point at that statement.

Plus it seems to me that you are the worst kind of fan out there, a bandwagon fan, so if I were I Tigers fan I would say good riddance to you. Plus I hate it when people become fans of teams because of one player. It's one of the reasons why I don't really like or follow the NBA. Granted I was guilty of this when I was a kid when I was briefly an Eagles fan because of Randall Cunninham, but then went to the Patriots when they rebranded. All this before the Rams came to town.

I really hope the Rays get a new stadium. Not only because I would love to see the last fixed dome stadium leave the MLB, but because it would be a great way to infuse some fan interest into a team I think deserves more. I feel the Rays are the last great hope for professional baseball in Florida.

EDIT: And not to turn this into a what grinds my gears thread, but I hate that it'ts called Tropicana Field, while it has no grass and is a dome.

Well, Tigers6884 Cubs0708 is slowly descending into madness.

Scherzer isn't greedy for asking for what he's worth. And if the Tigers won't give him what he feels is the right amount, he's free to seek employment anywhere else. You can't ask a guy to take a paycut to stay on a team if he doesn't want to.

And picking the Cubs? Woof.

Win-win with or without Scherzer. Obviously he's the ace of our staff, but if he goes, more $ to spend.

I sure do and I still stand by my team 11 years later. And to drop fandom over one guy? Trust me you're not a true fan. You weren't there for the 90s and early 2000s. That was a clown show. Just be lucky you are in the good years.

Is he really the obvious ace of that staff, though? If I had to choose between him or David Price, I think I'd probably go with Price.

It's a toss up really, but this past year Scherzer was no doubt the ace.

Now that I've had some time to cool off, I realize how ridiculous I was being. I will continue to be a Tigers fan for now, but I'll have a sour taste in my mouth. I've always been a die hard Tigers fan, and it would be ludicrous to switch allegiances now.

I'm ok with these deals. Today has been a pretty grand day as far as acquisitions in the Red Sox rotation goes. Miley, Masterson and Porcello? I'm cool with it. Miley and Porcello seem to be, and correct me if I'm wrong, primarily ground ball hitters. Considering the solid defense the Sox have in the infield, I feel as if they'll thrive.

2015 is going to be fun.

Jesus! I can't even keep track of who's on the Dodgers now!

Hanley and Kemp gone, LA gonna suck next season :(

Please. Have you seen their pitching rotation? Plus the players they have added today? You probably thought the Cardinals were going to suck when they lost Pujols

And do you root for every team in the MLB or something?

Def. not, but i love the classic teams like the tigers, cards and dodgers, who have great fans

But i think many dodger fans are upset, this quote from mlb.com is pretty spot on i think : "..So we keep Mattingly over Maddon...unload Gordon and Kemp...let Hanley go...and we get an OLD Rollins...Joc Peterson, who did SQUAT last year, is now somehow going to be better than Kemp? They just got rid of my 2 favorite players so we can have a better kumbaya clubhouse...and you trade KEMP to the PADRES! JESUS "

First off who are you quoting on mlb.com? Sounds to me like it's some Dodgers fan who's brain melted today much like Tigers6884 did. He may be your favorite player, but your gonna have to make a break at some point. As a Cardinal fan I had to go through this pretty recently, but you know what? In the end it all happened for the better. Championships are more important than one player. All those angry Dodger fans will know this soon enough. Unless of course they implode, but that wouldn't be because they traded a couple guys away.

Secondly, I don't know who Joc Peterson is. I'm assuming he can't play 2B or SS and neither could Kemp, and those were the positions they needed to fill. With Puig, Crawford, Eithier, and Van Slyke they still have a formidable outfield. Plus I'm sure they're not trying to replace Kemp with this Peterson guy alone. Have you ever read or watched Moneyball? Sure, they're not going to get 07 numbers from Rollins, nor are they expecting to, but add him with Kendrick and Gordon? That's a lot of veteran experience they desperately need for the postseason (that and a Kershaw that won't choke). I feel this team could win it all if they can get some good chemistry going, and with lineup, defense, rotation, and bullpen their going to have... man watch out. But again it's a loooong season, so we'll see.

I for one can't believe how much I've been defending the Dodgers today. I'm done. Time to go watch Missouri go suck at basektball.... at least the tickets are free.

BTW, why are the Yankees tagged on this thread? Nobody talks about them anymore :P

Jimmy Rollins heading to the Dodgers...

Marlins just snagged Dee Gordon from the Dodgers, too.

Howie Kendrick to the Dodgers, and I'm living in a puddle of my own tears.

So I'm hearing that the Dodgers have traded Matt Kemp to the Padres.

Wow...

What the hell is happening?

Self-destruction from the Dodgers because of knee-jerk reactions to the Giants and Cardinals, that's what the hell is happening. Stocking up on has-beens and past-primes (Kendrick, Rollins) and shipping away the speedy Gordon does exactly what for LA?

Jesus; it's as if the terror induced by St. Louis and the trauma of three San Francisco World Series wins have caused chaos, turmoil and panic behind the Dodgers roster. And this doesn't even take into account the rift Andre Ethier has with the front office ("I'm gonna be a starting outfielder this upcoming season or else...").

Dude, turning Dee Gordon into Howie Kendrick and a few prospects (which will probably be used to aquire Cole Hamels) is about the biggest coup the Dodgers could've possibly pulled off. That's the kind of moves that every other club should be scared of. Sure Rollins is a bit of a strange move, but they got him for practically nothing and he they were absolutely desperate for help in the middle of the infield. And you have to know that the Dodgers couldn't continue to pay an off injured Kemp more than $100 million to platoon with Puig, Ethier, and Crawford. They got better than they already were, and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually saved money in the long run by making those moves.

I don't like the starting rotation for the BoSox. They have 3 number 3 starters right now (Porcello, Miley, Buckholz) plus Kelly and Masterson. That's not a rotation of a WS caliber team. I would love for them to make a move to get Scherzer and/or Hammels/Price in a trade, to add a definitive #1 starter.
