OnWis97
So the Twins now have the other Johan Santana. That ought to be worth about two wins. MadmanLA
More Cubs wheeling-and-dealing, but on the TV front...in what's considered a bit of shocker, the team signed a broadcast deal with ABC's WLS-TV Channel 7 (25 games a season until 2019). Meanwhile, the Cubbies and long-time TV outlet WGN Channel 9 have all but finalized a new agreement in which WGN will air 45 games a season (way down from the 70 or so they would show), also would end in 2019. This is pretty much a stop-gap, as the Cubs have been rumored to wanting to launch their own cable network, but can't until 2020, when their cable deal with CSN Chicago is up.For you Cub fans outside of the Chicago market, the new management at WGN America had already announced back in May that they'll no longer air any Chicago sports on the channel; the last Chicago-centric sports event to air was Warriors-Bulls this past Saturday night. oddball
Dude, turning Dee Gordon into Howie Kendrick and a few prospects (which will probably be used to aquire Cole Hamels) is about the biggest coup the Dodgers could've possibly pulled off. That's the kind of moves that every other club should be scared of. Sure Rollins is a bit of a strange move, but they got him for practically nothing and he they were absolutely desperate for help in the middle of the infield. And you have to know that the Dodgers couldn't continue to pay an off injured Kemp more than $100 million to platoon with Puig, Ethier, and Crawford. They got better than they already were, and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually saved money in the long run by making those moves.Trading Kemp was a good idea. Sure the guy is an All-Star, sure the guy has MVP quality skills, but you can guarentee that he's going to spend 1/4 of the season on the DL. It's who he is. Actually, the Dodgers would do well to get rid of the rest of the high paid outfielders too. They are all injury prone, and Puig makes Manny Ramirez look intelligent and a role model. I just wait for the day that Puig implodes and it's going to happen. The Rollins deal, makes me scratch my head, but if it's leadership they are looking for from him, I guess that's good... except I don't know how many times over the past few years he's been benched for his attitude/lack of hustle... so that makes perfect sense. Kendrick is a steal as he's one of the best second basemen in the game. He just comes and plays day in and day out. He is a real role model, not Rollins. The thing with trading Dee Gordon, was he had one good year, last year, and I get the sense that mangement knows he's going to come back to earth and be the horrible hitter he was in his previous seasons. FiddySicks
I'm definitely a bit disappointed that he picked the Cubs over the Giants, but definitely less disappointed than if he had just gone back to Boston. It's refreshing to see the Cubs make such a big move. Ultimately, I don't expect it to work because it's the Cubs, but it's definitely a move they had to make if they ever do wanna get off the schnide.
