And the PAC-12 South just keeps on getting easier for Arizona State, as both LA teams are in real trouble tonight, to Boston College and a skeleton Texas team. What the hell happened to the USC team that went in and won on the farm last week?

USC probably should've lost to the Cardinal by 20 but Stanford couldn't get out of it's own way when they got into the red zone. UCLA is so overrated. When you barely beat Memphis at home there is something wrong.
They might be, but they lost Hundley relatively early in the game and their offense disappeared after that. The fact that they still won is impressive. I don't think they're Top 10, but they're definitely in the 11-20 range.

Against a skeleton Texas team who were curb stomped the week before. And I'd think a Top 20 team would be able to beat Memphis by more than 7 at home, especially with messiah Brett Hundley at QB. I'm not so sure the Bruins should be ranked right now.

This is exactly what's wrong with College Football. Wins should be way more important than how you win. This system doesn't truly allow every team a realistic chance at winning a national title and that's wrong.

And with UCLA, I don't care how they win as long as they win.

Yes, but would you be saying the same thing if say an undefeated South Alabama made it into the playoffs over a one loss UCLA?

Cardinals -- Rams -- Blues -- Tigers -- Liverpool

We're trying to comparatively evaluate 128 different college teams with only 12-13 games of data per team. Damn straight style points are going to be used.

Yeah, it's really the one sport where you have no choice and you cannot go with standard rules (like Head-to-head trumps all). There is just no opportunity for schedule integrity.

Example: 1993. Notre Dame and Florida State both finish with one loss. Bowl tie-ins prevent them from playing each other (this is pre-BCS). Florida State's loss was by about a TD at #2 Notre Dame. ND's loss came the next week at home vs Boston College (ranked #17 or so). There were a lot of people who thought ND should have been the champion based on the win over FSU. FSU won the title based, I suspect, on the nature of the loss (and the rest of both teams' schedules). A narrow win at home is roughly a narrow loss on the road sometimes. And ND blew a game they should have won. I had NO problem with the decision. It would be a far different world in the NFL where there is much more schedule integrity and home/road is less meaningful and you are talking about one of 12 playoff spots.

Most sports allow for more objective playoff selections. College football really cannot. Ironically, it's probably the sport that would best be served by a big tournament (i.e., big enough to accommodate each conference champ and 5 at large). But since we are where we are, subjective criteria kinda have to be used. And no, a win is not a win. It can be in the pros, but not in NCAA football.

FSU won the title based, I suspect, on the nature of the loss (and the rest of both teams' schedules) on a perceived need to give Bobby Bowden a national championship.

FTFY. :P

Funny, I always figured that Tom Osbourne's retirement announcement contributed to the 1996 (or was it 97) title over also-undefeated Michigan.

I wasn't alive at that time, but that's also sure as hell the way my dad tells it.

Jameis Winston suspended for the first half of this week's game against Clemson. Why?

For standing on top of a table shouting, " :censored: her right in the p_ssy!"

So that's where FSU draws the line, huh? Wonder what you have to do to get a full game suspension there.

As dumb as it is, this wouldn't have happened if Winston didn't have behavorial problems in the past. I'm sure this wasn't just Jimbo's call, admin probably told him to do it.

Even as an FSU fan, I'll admit that that was really stupid for him to do. Not too sure about the half-game suspension. I know it was against university rules and it brings shame upon him and the team/school, but I don't know. I guess a half-game suspension is about the smallest you could go with penalties. I wouldn't say the punishment is too lenient though, but I wouldn't say it's too harsh either.

On a side note, tickets for the FCS Championship game are $35/piece. Most of the tickets are sold. Any other FCS fans on these boards?

What's wrong with standing on a table and yelling ":censored: her right in the :censored:"?

It's a serious question. The premise is stupid, I recognize, but what did he do that was wrong in this scenario?

FCS fan here!!!! Were most of those championship tickets purchased from Fargo, ND?

I'm assuming :P Doesn't look bad for them right now. They lost their coach and their QB, and yet they look just as good as before.

I'm going to guess it's such a big deal because; 1. Who he is, and 2. It's probably against university protocol to use such foul language on campus

Also the whole "may or may not have raped a girl" thing. To me, that's the difference between chuckle because funny and stupid internet meme and, well, what we've gotten.

You realize that the school just interviewed the girl who he had the encounter with for the first time this week, and they opened up a Title IX investigation as a result of their (mis)handling of the incident two weeks ago, right?
