kewp80
Yeah I see it as more of a personal or internal reason when it comes to Anderson leaving Wisconsin. It's not like the pressure to win there is the same as a Nebraska, Michigan, or Ohio State. Hell Nebraska just axed Pelini after five 9-10 win seasons. If he were down here at Missouri he would have gotten a fat 10 year extension. Cardinals -- Rams -- Blues -- Tigers -- Liverpool Check out my music! dfwabel
Gary Andersen is going from Wisconsin to Oregon State. My guess is that Barry Alvarez said "yeah, you should take that."Seems every time the Badgers are involved in a blowout in the B1G Championship Game, the coach leaves.B. Something internal with the administration. Recall, the financial pool for assistants was one reason why Bret Bielema left for Arkansas in 2012. Plus, it probably does not help that his boss, Barry Alverez, is effectively gone three days each week dealing with the Playoff Committee and passing off duties to the Associate ADs and the SWA. He may have felt he was being ignored. When I initially saw this, 2 different coaches in 3 years... it makes me think the AD may start being more of a problem than people want to admit. Alverez cast a big shadow in Nebraska and its hard for these coaches to get out of that shadow. Having a legendary coach as your AD may not be the best structure for the success of your legendary football program. If the B1G wants to start competing again, they have to open up the bank for assistant coaches. I'm not sure what the revenue from the B1G TEN Network is being used for, but its upwards of $20 million+ per school. Kids these days choose colleges based on coaches. Its no longer the tradition of the programs. Its the coaches and assistance coaches.A lot of it is used to pay off debt for facilities either with the bondholder or the university. Some of it, at two schools I personally know, goes to pay the support staff more (e.g.: SIDs in specific sports, facilities people and all those 20-something sports management majors). And keep in mind that the B1G schools must sponsor at least 20 sports (NW gets away with 19), which is more than the other Power 5 conferences and they have a different business model than others. The ACC and Pac-12 are closer to them than the SEC and Big XII are in terms of business.

Wisconsin's assistants are also grossly underfunded, if you believe what Bielema griped about. I can see a coach getting burned out when you're put into a situation where the pressure to win is big (UW's recent success, big athletes like Melvin Gordon, etc) but they're lowballing your assistants. Hard to keep that turd afloat for long.Actually I think he meant to say Tom Osborne. Since Alvarez is still casting his shadow on Wisconsin.Sorry, I DID mean Wisconsin. His coaching shadow is still cast over the program. I think its hard for new coaches to come in and have success with that constantly hanging over their head.Maybe it's my personal biases talking, but Wisconsin fans/alumni/donors seem to think UW has one of the great programs in college football. The truth is, Badger football has been the drizzling sh~ts for the overwhelming majority of its existence. They didn't get their first bowl win until 1982, and didn't win their first Rose Bowl until 1994. Alvarez just happened to make the team not terrible for a significant length of time, which had never happened before in the program's history. Now reality is starting to set in that Wisconsin isn't such a desirable place for up and coming coaches. Especially offensive-minded guys who don't want to call running plays on 3rd & 10 like it's still the 1950s.

They're good for 8 or 9 wins a season, but they collapse in games against quality competition. They just lost a game by 59 points and only fell five spots in the poll. They get a lot of love that shouldn't be given to them.
DS729
Wow, didn't even know the CFB awards are today. That is truly terrible advertising on ESPN's part.Meh. There wasn't much competition for any real race, you could have probably picked them all except for maybe some of the defensive ones (excluding the Thorpe) and Mariota won every award he was eligible for. No doubt he's going to get the Heisman. It's good to actually have a real Heisman-worthy guy this season.

OnWis97
Wisconsin Hired former OC Paul Chryst. Not a shocker, but it happened quickly enough that I am thinking Barry Alvarez went to Anderson and said "take the best open job you can find. Thanks."Regarding where Wisconsin football is at...it's a top 50 program. Maybe top-40...Some fans do think it's better. But it's good enough to keep our interest. Billy B
I really doubt that he asked Anderson to leave. Whether it was the admission standards (doubt it,) just wanting to go back west, or not wanting to work under Alvarez, I think he left on his own. Chryst is a really safe hire. After two coaches in a row making lateral moves at best to get out, they got somebody that won't do that anytime soon.

If Bevis Bielema would have left one year earlier (i.e., before Chryst went to Pitt), a lot of trouble would have been saved. This all happened really fast...Chryst became Wisconsin's coach like 36 hours after Andersen dropped this "bomb?"I don't think 4:00 Wednesday was the first time Barry and Co. knew about this. rams80
The other alternative is that Gary Anderson is rethinking working under Barry Alvarez, the God Emperor of Wisconsin football.
