So it looks like the future is coming...

During Monday's Goodyear tire test at Kentucky Speedway, Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates driver Jamie McMurray gave a preview of NASCAR's new digital dashboard.

According to the NASCAR rule book, teams will be able to use the digital dash after Aug. 5, 2015. The digital dash will then be mandatory for all events starting Jan. 1, 2016 and cannot be modified from the manufacturer specifications.

Pretty soon they're all going to be psuedo-David Hasslehoffs driving around in their own NightRider cars.

It's an interesting advancement...to say the least.

Cup drivers racing in Cup-team owned XFINITY car, that's so good for the development of the series and other drivers. It's about time NASCAR wakes up and sees that this isn't the 90s, when it was necessary for Cup teams to have their drivers in the lower level. It's also about time some of these drivers put some skin in the game and race their own equipment.

Kyle and Brad do in Trucks

Junior does in XFINITY

The reason I support Cup guys in XFINITY is so that the up-and-coming guys can get a taste for what it's like in Cup. If you can't compete with the likes of Jr, Joey, BK, and Harvick on rotation, what makes you think you can do it for 40 weeks on the Cup side? Cup guys in XFINITY helps develop the young guns, even if they aren't dominating every week

Brad, Joey, Kyle, etc, that run in their Cup-owned, Cup-built equipment are making the XFINITY series just a testing session. Harvick ran his own for a LONG time, and now runs JR Motorsports equipment, not Stewart-Haas.

Brad runs his own equipment in trucks, as will Kyle, when he returns. Joey running Brad's trucks is not a problem as well, since it's not Penske owned.

The old days, which apologists love to bring forward, didn't have Cup teams running XFINITY. The Cup drivers either ran their own or for that level-only teams. Sr, DW, etc, did. Times have changed: Low budget teams have little or no chance of being competitive with the Cup-owned and built equipment driven by Cup drivers.

The idea of developing a driver is fine and great. But the reality is, to have a development driver, takes money. Why did Harvick and Kyle Busch shut down their program? To win takes too much effort and money and time away from their Cup teams. It's great that BK and JR can run and develop drivers... but the reality will be, they will be few and far between. If Joe Gibbs can't find sponsorship for Bubba Wallace and Jeb Burton struggled these past two years to find sponsorship (he's been lucky to find rides), it's not easy to develop drivers. Why is Kyle, Brad, and Joey in equipment prepared by Cup teams in the Xfinity Series? Because that's what the SPONSORS want. They want to see results in their investment and results are winning, and to guarentee the possibility for a win, they demand Cup drivers in top-notch prepared equipment. To get a viable sponsor that will fund a full season, you need a Cup driver. And here's the other thing, drivers in the past drove in the Busch Series, because they enjoy racing and want to win. Drivers today drive in the Xfinity Series because they love to race and win. Having Erik Jones beat Cup drivers last week at Texas proves that he's just about Cup ready. If he wins a race without Cup drivers and Cup-prepared vehiciles, do we really know if he's ready, or if he's the next Tim Tebow/Johnny Manziel, great in one division but proves to be nothing with the big boys. At least racing the big boys, shows you can race with them and if you beat them, then you know you can play with them.

Kyle because he was not winning

Keven and Delana Harvick shut theirs down because they wanted a family.

Bumping for a long but pretty good race at Bristol:

1. Kenseth

2. Johnson

3. Gordon

4. Stenhouse Jr.

5. Newman

6. Stewart

7. Larson

8. Allgaier

9. Patrick

10. Dillon

What a crazy crazy race. A lot of potential winners got knocked out and some of 2014 ROTY candidates finished in the top 10, Austin & Kyle looked pretty good. Nice drive by Kenseth. Next up, The Action track, Richmond!

Pretty good race overall. Solid run by Gordon but, really, barring Kenseth getting a bad restart or having fuel issues, he didn't have much of a chance on that last caution starting from the bottom. Had a good car but never felt like a winning car. On to Richmond... I think I like Richmond but who knows anymore.

I like Bristol under the lights but since I work weekends, I've gotten used to DVRing the races and watching them without commercials Sunday nights so having to watch commercials sucked.
