2014-2015 NHL Jersey/Logo Changes

Does anyone think that the Canes jerseys are begging for a thin black outline on the outside of the white stripes? The jerseys are still good and very clean, but I feel like they just need a little black. The white jersey is solid. But watching them on TV right now, the red is great, but the black collar, number outline, and logo are all begging for some more black on the jersey.

What the Canes need is a jersey that actually works with their logo and completes their identity, instead of being über-conservative and going with the most bland template possible — a sign that they couldn't come up with something new that works well. They'll need more than a thin black outline because a red jersey with white and black stripes is approaching Blackhawks territory.

If they don't want warning flags, fine. But they need something that works. What they currently use now doesn't.

No. they are begging to be trashed, as both the cup winning set and 2007 iterations are vastly superior...

Their road uniforms aren't bad.

So these are some more logos for the Winter Classic...

So the Blackhawks will have a jersey using their current logo untouched. Looks like they won't be using any reiterations of one of their 1930's or 1940's crests.

First off the stripe pattern adding those stripes would not make them look anything like the Hawks. Obviously they need a complete overhaul, but I'm more asking if that simple tweak would add more to what they are working with now. There isn't a balance obviously. Their affiliate in the A pulls it off better.

That's fine by me. The modern incarnation of the logo is far superior to any used before it, and if the Caps are doing a fauxback, there's no reason why the Hawks can't.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

This is pure speculation, but I think the Canucks current Stick-In-Rink alternate jersey is being phased out in favour of a new one with Johnny Canuck. You can't buy them anymore (save for things like Ryan Kesler jerseys they're trying to clear out and youth ones) on sites like NHL.com or Fanatics, and the team is really starting to incorporate Johnny more into the team's branding and promo materials.

I think the perfect way to settle this, actually, would be for neither team to ever wear a North Stars throwback, or the Stars should wear them against the Wild only.

Alternatively, let the Stars have not one, but two Throwback Nights: one at home as a franchise anniversary event, and another against the Wild in Minnesota. That way, Stars fans get to see those beauts at home, and Minnesota fans get to see the North Stars return for a night. Everybody wins!

You're absolutely correct, they're horrible! At least when compared to their previous sets.

You don't think not using one of their previous logos is because of the whole Redskins issue, do you? The Blackhawks have remained untouched in this whole discussion and perhaps they think using an older logo might invalidate the good they've had? Some of the older logos were less accurately drawn, for lack of a good word.

Perhaps they decided early on that they wanted to use the current logo, which has had no problems, and continue to avoid criticism entirely.

Also, didn't they say that they wanted to use a straight 1961 white throwback for last year's stadium series game and reebok wouldn't let them? I bet that's what we see for the winter classic.

Who knew they were missing a stripe on the sleeve in that era? I never realized.

Though I think these would be slightly more interesting, they won a cup right after they changed them, so I doubt they'll ever be used again:

I'll respect any opinion that you can defend.

Don't think it would ever happen, but what about one with the tomahawk as the main crest? Would fit nicely with the Capitals W logo. It's one of those logos that if it were any other team (IE the team with one of the best main crests in sports) it would have already been featured as a main logo.

Doing that would be the equivalent of creating a Yankees uniform with their alternate/promotional logo (whatever you wanna call it) instead of the interlocking ny logo. Sure, it would look awesome and creative, but traditionalists would only moan and complain about it.

If by that you mean traditionalists = people with respect for identity consistency and not muddling a brand.

I would hope the Hawks wear a jersey they wore sometime throughout their history. Even if it means tweaking the logo. (Which they shouldn't because the team is named after one man.) But you never know these days.

I hope so. That logo sucked in the 1970's and sucks today too.

They should have flushed that logo away along time ago.

Here, the Canucks don't even have to flush it. Just hand it to me and I'll take it down into the sewers for them.

If it's all about identity consistency then the Yankees have already failed. They use four different interlocking NY logos and their primary logo features colors that appear nowhere else in their identity. Oh, and the "Yankees" script in their primary logo is different from their "Yankees" script wordmark for good measure.
