Oh good, we're having the "Lightning look like the Leafs/Wings" and "Stars look like the Hawks/Rangers" debates again. It had been far too long. :suspect:

It could have easily been avoided if the Lightning and Stars didn't choose to hop on the retro-for-retro's-sake bandwagon and blatantly rip off other teams.
The Stars didn't rip off anyone. Who else was wearing kelly green as their primary colour when they redesigned?

Further, the team was founded in 1967. They can get away with the retro look. They aren't the G-ddamn Florida Panthers.

exactly... founded in 1967... as a team that wears kelly green...

why this is so hard for some people is beyond me.

Agreed. And it looks damn good on the ice.

I don't care if teams use templates and change the colors, if they look good. If a design is horrible, that's what I have a problem with, not the template that's used multiple times, but a horrible design that's used once, let alone multiple times.

I'm another who has had the Lightning's jersey set design grow on them, but I still maintain that having some stronger black highlights and maybe a touch of silver here and there would do it wonders. Such a near miss right now, that logo could really be a top 10 logo, but as it is without any contrasting colours it's just way too flat and forgettable.

I'm Danny fkn Heatley, I play for myself. That's what fkn all stars do.

I'm confused as to how the fact that they've been green since 1967 justifies the current set (or makes it look less like the Hawks/Rangers)? The two aren't anything at all alike, in fact it's not even the same shade of green any more.

They can still be 'retro for retro's sake" if they look like someone else's retro that preceded them.

If only they'd kept gold instead of switching to silver.

YES. Thank you. That's my biggest problem with that set. They've ALWAYS used gold, why did they decide to ditch it for silver? It looks sort of drab now, despite the great shade of green. Gold would've fixed that problem completely, and been more in line with their history. They don't look terrible right now, but they just don't look like the Stars IMO without the gold.

The new logo still sucks though. I'm never gonna like that nasty thing.

I actually like the new D-star, though the angles feel off a little. But, yeah, I'd replace the silver with gold, and I'd fill in between the black and green stripes on the roads with gold as well; it'd be a nice nod to the North Stars. (Not sure how to properly incorporate it on the homes; I'd have to think about it.)

Every attempt to replace silver with gold has looked horrible. It just makes the bevel look dirty.

The only way I'd see gold working is if you replace the outer outline with gold and leave the subtle silver bevel. Either way, I love the look and have no issues with dropping gold. I don't see silver as a replacement because silver is only used sparingly in the logos. Nowhere on the sweaters. The Stars are a green and black team now. Silver is just there for shading on the white.

And if you've got a problem with the stars being a green and black team, rather than a green and gold team, take it up with Norm Green twenty a something years ago. Since then, with a couple exceptions, gold has been tertiary at best.

And there's reason for gold only being tertiary:

(Not talking about using gold as a jersey color, but their former shade in any large amount looks terrible.)

the worst helmets design to me is the Jacksonville jaguars hamlets from 1995 to 2012 because you can't see the logo vary wall

On NHL.com, the lighting in this pic kind of makes the vintage white on CBJ's jerseys look like regular white. It looks a lot better IMO.

Ya vintage white just makes it look like the jersey never made it to the washing machine, regular white always looks better.

It would be one thing if they were still in Minnesota, then the classical look might make sense. But when I think of the Dallas Stars, I still think of the "All-Star" template they won the Cup in. An old-timey look just doesn't feel right for Dallas.

Additionally, the current uniforms don't even look like the North Stars. If they really wanted to throw back to that era, they should have just done it instead of going for the "St. Patrick's Day Rangers" look.

There is no St. Patrick's Day Rangers look. There's a St. Patrick's Day Blackhawk look, but those comparisons were shot down after it was pointed out that the Stars don't use the same striping pattern as the Blackhawks. This "St. Patrick's Day Rangers" talk is just a bad attempt at trying to continue on that criticism even if it no longer makes sense. Give it up.

An old-timey look just doesn't feel right for Dallas.

It's less about the location and more about the team. The team's been around long enough to justify the classic look.

But when I think of the Dallas Stars, I still think of the "All-Star" template they won the Cup in.

Look at the Stars' history. Their time in that "cutting edge" template is dwarfed by the amount of time spent wearing traditionally styled sweaters with hem and arm stripes. The All-Star look was an aberration if you take all of the team's history into account. A half- :censored: ed aberration at that. A star logo that didn't line up with the star-shaped waist stripes? Numbers that overlapped the striping pattern on the sleeves? A bit of a mess when you really start to look at it.

Additionally, the current uniforms don't even look like the North Stars. If they really wanted to throw back to that era, they should have just done it...

That was what we all thought they would do when the rumours of a classic and traditional uniform revamp were making the rounds, and you still complained.
