Solar League Baseball - an OOTP simulation (Need expansion teams/locations ideas!)

After seeing Raysoxs thread with the OOTP simulation running his historical baseball league, I decided to buy the game and check it out myself. I created my own fantasy league using the actual teams that my friends came up with. I ran the simulation for around 10 years and I loved what I was seeing.

So basically, this is a similar concept to Raysox, but with a twist...! Instead of a historical league, Ive decided to make a FUTURE league!

And now begin the early days of Solar Baseball League!

I decided to bring up an old thread or two of mine and see what I can do with these ideas in OOTP. Unfortunately, I dont have the logo files saved on my computer anymore, but I dont mind remaking these logos and post them eventually. For now, the OOTP simulation will do just for now.

Solar League Baseball

Historical Timeline

2065 2089

For several years, the reinstated NASA program has been developing a faster way to travel through final frontier of space. One of their first missions was to build a space shuttle that would take only eight hours to travel to the moon from Earth.

Once they finally reached the moon in 2074, they immediately started constructing a small colony filled with science labs, mining facilities, living quarters, an open park-like area with water filling one of the craters forming a lake, and a launching pad for further space exploration missions. The colony has been Lake Armstrong.

In 2087, with the developing technology the scientists have been forming on in Lake Armstrong, they have launched a new space shuttle to reach Mars in only one week, instead of seven months just a century ago.

In 2090, a small team of astronauts and scientists from Earth brought their baseball equipment to challenge a little group of athletes from Lake Armstrong in a friendly pickup game of baseball. The game became so popular that the citizens, mostly the athletes families, partners and friends, of the Moon and Earth would pay to go and watch the unofficial pickup games.

In 2100, both Earth and the Moon invited a team from Mars to participate in their weekend, round-robin MoonFest tournament during the Moons yearly festival during the weekend of July 21^st. The top two teams will play an extra game for the title. The team wore simple NASA-issued colored t-shirts. Earth in blue, Luna in black, Mars in red. The concept is somewhat similar to a simple beer league.

With the addition of Mars to the tournament, it became so popular that professional umpires joined the festival and placing the renamed tournament MoonFest Baseball in the newly constructed Lunar Dome. All games will be held here.

The Lunar Dome is on the outskirts of Lake Armstrong. The Lunar Dome is a multi-purpose stadium that can hold a baseball field, football field, and all kinds of various events. The dome itself is full of glass, so the athletes and spectators are treated to a speculator view of the stars, the barren wasteland of the untouched region of moon, and of course, the blue marble floating in the moon sky.

I plan on adding a minor/feeder league and maybe a winter league here or there (I may need help figuring out how to do that in OOTP). Thirteen years later, with the continuing expansion of space colonies, MoonFest Baseball invited a team from Venus to join the tournament. MoonFest Baseball is now a weeklong event, with the teams playing a double-round robin schedule. The top two teams will face each other for the title. Again, the teams wore their team-issued shirts from NASA. Earth wore blue shirts, Luna in the black shirts, Mars with red shirts, and Venus dons orange shirts.

Does anybody know how I can find player stats from the previous several years? The reason why I ask this is because I'm still new to OOTP and I'm exploring it. I can't find how I can see who are the all-time leaders in home runs from like year 2120 to 2129 or something like that.

The logos that you see in the above image are the cap logos of their respective teams.

MoonFest Baseball has officially become a real league,

as they invited their fifth team from Mercury.

Mercury had just joined the Space Program two years ago

and now with enough development, they were able to field a team.

The league has been renamed Solar Baseball League,

where the teams will play a 160-game schedule

with a best four-of-seven championship.

All five teams now have a full baseball uniform set along with nicknames.

(#) = Rank of the planet's baseball program. 1 to 5, 5 being the highest.

The players that are involved in this league

are mostly playing for their home teams.

to form a dynamic left side of the field for the Voyagers.

4) Alejandro Rivas, 3B, Mars

For the worst team in the league, Rivas slugged .343/.450/.680 with 528 home runs

and finished in the top three of Slugger of the Year voting 5 times.

5) Kevin Burgess, CF, Luna

In just 5 full seasons and 2 half-seasons, Burgess put up the 4th highest WAR

with 455 home runs in the LunarDome, a stadium with low gravity.

The Earth Voyagers ended up being more powerful than I thought by "editing" some of their players maybe a little too powerful. I wanted Earth to be something similar to the USA playing against the other nations if they actually took it seriously, unlike the WBC. In the last decade, the league ERA was around 5.00 while the batting average was around .280 or so. In the next post, you will see an expansion of the league and hopefully I can improve the pitching a little bit. I'll have to tweak the settings a little bit in OOTP.

Solar League Baseball 2140 2149 Notes

Yes, I know the Callisto Bears is the exact same as the Chicago Cubs. But at this point, I'm just more concerned about the simulation than logos. I'm pretty proud of myself with the Kings' logo though! And I'm a Cubs fan, so, yeah. I'm just enjoying the simulation more than making logos at this point.

With the growing popularity of Solar League Baseball and the faster space travel technologies already breaking out, the league expanded with five brand new teams, all in the Jupiter planetary system.

Jupiter and four of its largest moons, Callisto, Europa, Ganymede and Io received a team each. The Jupiter Kings, Callisto Bears, Europa Avalanche, Ganymede Giants and Io Volcanoes all started play in the 2140 season in their own division within Solar League Baseball, the Jupiter League.

For the first several seasons of the 40s, the Jupiter teams struggled mightily, as there were only four winning seasons from that division in the first five seasons. This meant that sometimes a team with a losing record would win the division title and make it to the playoffs.

But after several years of growing pains, two teams from the Jupiter Division, the Jupiter Kings and the Callisto Bears, emerged and made several playoffs appearances and won a few titles. The Kings were the first expansion team to win a Solar Series title.

Meanwhile, in the original five teams of the Terrain Division, the Earth Voyagers continued their domination winning three Solar Series titles. It wasnt until 2146 where they had their first losing season and missed the playoffs for five straight years.

The Venus Storm has overtaken the Earth Voyagers as the powerhouse of SLB, winning four titles, including three straight from 44 to 46. They also made the playoffs nine times out of ten years.

The Mars Legion, despite having two 90-win seasons in the 40s, has yet to reach the playoffs in their 20-year history.

RHP Samuel Eissens, Earth, inducted in 2144

Through the years Eissens has fashioned a 226-34 mark, 1.99 ERA and thrown 2,421.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .218 lifetime against him and he has logged 2,555 career strikeouts.

3B Alejandro Rivas, Mars, inducted in 2149

Lifetime Rivas has hit .324 with 2,248 hits, 589 home runs, 1,525 RBIs and scored 1,472 runs.

Top players (in no particular order)

LF Dave Hill, Callisto He won the Slugger of the Year award twice in 46 and 48 and put up 60.3 WAR in seven seasons.

CF Kevin Burgess, Luna He is the career leader in home runs with 1,247 while playing in Lunar Dome, which obviously has low gravity. He also won the Slugger of the Year awards five times in the 40s.

SP Bill Adams, Callisto He won Ace of the Year six times and is the current all-time leader in WHIP, K/9 and H/9. He also holds the record for the lowest ERA in a single season set in 2146 with an ERA of 1.37.

3B Caspar Creswell, Earth One of the greatest players from the 30s finally retired in 2148 and he went out with a bang. He is the all-time leaders in hits with 3538 and is 2^nd in home runs with 3538. He had his jersey number, 12, retired by the Voyagers.

1B Dan King, Earth The next generation of superstars for the Voyagers is here, and Dan King is the headliner of the group. He was the Rookie of the Year in 2140 and slugged 513 homers in 10 years.

All of the other worlds have solid surfaces (Europa's is probably under its ocean or on the icy surface), but Jupiter is a gas giant, with reportedly no solid surface that humans could walk on, much less build a city or stadium.

It's a wonderful concept series, but I'm a little curious as to how you solve the gas giant conundrum.

Also, perhaps Titan should get a team? Titan is often mentioned in discussions of terraforming in the Solar System.

Thanks for the awesome questions! I've thought about where to put the stadiums and how they would be designed and whatnot. In my head the technology has come far enough that we could terraform a few planets/moons here and there. But as for the gas giants, they would be playing in a "floating dome" on a city that's resting in its skies or just above the atmosphere.

Think Cloud City from Star Wars Episode V.

All stadiums would have a calibrated gravity to ensure fair play but there would be some obvious differences (i.e. Lunar Dome = Coors Field). I'm still fairly new to OOTP so I'm always tweaking the settings. It's like in the early days of baseball where they would change rules and the aesthetics of the game.

And yes, I do plan having this league being expanded, and Titan is on my short list! :-). I'll expand the league by 8 teams between Saturn, Uranus and Neptune (maybe Pluto too) in around 2165. Then two more teams a few years afterwards.

P.S. Or some of the stadiums could be in a space station/base that's in orbit of said gas giants.

Solar League Baseball has announced their Silver Anniversary All-SLB team to celebrate 25 years of professional baseball in space.

The players were selected based on WAR while the relief pitchers were chosen by saves. Two players were chosen at each fielding position while there are six outfielders listed.

Eight starting pitchers were selected while four relievers round out the pitching staff.

2150 – 2159 Notes

In the early part of the 50’s, the Kings won two more titles, giving them five titles in six years before starting their descent. The Callisto Bears and the Io Volcanoes took over the reins and made the Solar Series a combined eight times and winning once each. The Mars Legion finally found their timing and made the Solar Series four times, winning two straight in ’55 and ’56.

After eleven straight years of missing the playoffs, the Earth Voyagers got back to their old powerhouse days and won three straight Solar Series titles to close out the decade.

In 2154, Solar League Baseball announced their All-SLB Silver Team to celebrate the 25^th season of professional baseball in space.

In 2155, for the first time ever, Solar League Baseball has introduced the All-Star game, which pits the best of the Terrain Division and the Jupiter Division against each other in a friendly exhibition match-up.

2158 – SP Rob Green, Venus

Green has collected 254 wins and 193 losses over his career with a 4.27 ERA. The 42-year-old hurler also has struck out 2188 batters in 3613.2 innings and allowed 3797 hits.

Top players

SP Bill Adams – The ace of the Callisto Bears and arguably one of the greatest pitchers of all time in SLB history, Adams finally retired in 2159 as the all-time leader in wins, innings pitched and WAR. He also won the Ace of the Year a record of 10 times, four times in the 50’s.

C Robert Goodwin – The backstop for the Jupiter Kings, Goodwin won the Slugger of the Year for four straight years from ’50 to ’53. He is the all-time leader in WAR for catchers.

RF Dave Hill – Playing right field for the Callisto Bears, Hill won Slugger of the Year award twice in the mid 50’s along with 594 home runs in his 17 years of playing time. He is also a 3-time all-star.

LF Walton Hart – Walton Hurt is an underrated player who is just finishing up the prime of his career for the Ganymede Giants. He also is a 4-time All-Star while winning the Slugger of the Year award in 2156.

1B Travis Lee – Taking over the retired Dan King, Voyagers first-baseman Travis Lee took 2^nd place in Rookie of the Year in 2155 and won the Slugger of the Year twice in ’58 and ’59. He is also a 4-time All-Star while leading the league in hits each year from ’56 to ’59, averaging 222 hits in these four years.

Yes I turned it off because I don't want to worry about it right now too much. Plus I'm afraid it might complicate things since I'm still new to OOTP. However if you have any suggestions or tips on how to manage the financial parts, I wouldn't mind using it. I can totally see Earth and the planets have a large amout of money while the moons and more distant locations have less money if that make sense.

I also plan on expanding the league very soon.

I have OOTP 9 and 11 and I still play them. I love the OOTP family of games and I think they look cleaner and cleaner every year. I only look at a few pictures, so what does OOTP 15 have that makes it cool?

The one thing that really caught my eye on this year's version was the seven international leagues with full rosters. RoughRiders, do you know which international leagues they added? Also the 3D park editor looks friggin' awesome. I was probably going to wait for 16 to come out this next spring, but now I don't know.
