2015-16 NHL Uniform and Logo Changes

Recommended Posts

Islanders third jerseys don't look very good... Way too simplistic.

Sharks throwback was awesome though.

All this hate for the Islanders, but I guess no one remembers the last 5 years of horribly awful and overly complicated 3rd jerseys.

There's a simple fix for that. No third. Now back to something more important. Who's the second MLB team changing next year?

Isles wore their "Brooklyn" thirds for the first time last night.

Taken by themselves, they didnt look all too bad out there. Pretty simple and sleek uniform, although a bit boring.

Now as a fan of this franchise for almost 40 years, I think I'm contractually obligated to hate them.

They're :censored: ing gorgeous. The more I see them, the more I like. And they looked great against the white ice.

Still have a problem with them not wearing blue and orange, but I can't argue with these uniforms on aesthetic grounds.

And they seem to be selling a ton of 'em to boot.

I like them as well. I just wish that the stripes were thicker, though. As Cole alluded to, they were difficult to make out while watching on watching on TV. Other than that, they're not too bad.

The Sharks are in their throwbacks against the Blue Jackets tonight. That's an almost perfect hockey uniform. So good looking in action and high definition.

Seems one shade too dark compared to the originals

Close enough. It's still the best they've looked since the late 90's.

Yeah who cares if it's not a dead match? They look effing great.

Also keep in mind a couple things - 1. teal is a weird color as far as photographs go. Same uniform looks like two completely different colors here eh?

2. Back then NHL teams wore dark jerseys on the road. That photo of Arturs Irbe is very likely in another different arena. Not fair to compare photos 20 years apart in two different buildings with different lighting.

Sidenote: I hate the lighting in the Shark tank. Way too dark.

It's definitely darker at the Tank than it is at other arenas I've been to, but it works because it kind of adds to the effect. It makes the place feel even more intimate than it already is, and really adds to the effect. Much better than the Pond, where the lighting is brighter and makes the place feel downright canaverous and only emphasizes that the place is usually half empty,

They have to turn down the lights in the Tank because everything else in the building is white. If the lights were brighter, it'd practically be snow blindness there.

And when's the last time you went to a Ducks game?

The Isles jerseys didn't look awful out there...just incredibly boring. Make those sleeve stripes as thick as the hemline stripe, and it'd actually work, because the logo looked good. The rest was invisible.

And I know I'm in a huge minority here, but I've come to really like the Sharks with orange. It contrasts so well and brightens up the color scheme. Maybe it's not the most shark-like, but for a California team, it just makes sense to me.

I'd still love to see their second jersey set make a comeback.

Is it just me, or are most of the photos on the Sharks website from that game out of focus? I am just on my phone but most don't look clear/sharp.

I think teal, black, and orange is a decent color combo and I don't think there's an urgency for them to revert back to aqua, silver, and black. The location argument is a good point you made. What I dislike the most is how the shape of their current crest is inferior to their original. And also if they bring back front numbers.

It's been a few seasons, admittedly. The last time I went, I think, was in 2011. I'm sure it's picked up a bit due to their success. But, I will say this. I had a partial season ticket package one year and was amazed at how empty some of their games were. That was in 2007.

I don't necessarily think it's due to poor fan support, either (but it'll never be like some of the more northern teams. There's too much going on in OC for that). I think it had more to do with just how absolutely enormous that building is.

See, I just don't see where it's too big or "cavernous." To me, the Pond has always felt cozy or intimate. Maybe that's because it's our home rink, but compared to my visits to Staples Center in LA or American Airlines Center in Dallas, the Pond is hardly cavernous. LA and Dallas feel so big and cavernous with the wide lower bowls the multileveled suites. Hell, with the way the ceiling is in Dallas, I felt like I was watching the game in an airline hanger. (Which makes sense with the sponsor, but not the spot.)

Plus, the Tank actually holds roughly 400 more people capacity-wise. (17,562 to 17,174)

Anyways, not that any of that matters.

The Sharks looked really nice again, slow stripes be damned.

It's not that Teal, Orange, White and Black is a bad scheme, its that the original palette with grey was perfect for a Shark based team. I also didn't like how it was adapted almost immediately after their southern California rivals claimed it as an accent.

I can see where he's coming from. The ceiling at the Pond is much higher than the one at the Tank. The top of the upper deck at the Tank is almost right beneath the ceiling.

I agree. I've never liked the addition of orange to the Sharks scheme, it made little to no sense, and is somewhat jarring to look at. The teal, black, and gray was a solid look that encompassed the team name/theme well and looked great on the ice.

That's one of those videos that makes me feel high as hell while I'm completely sober. Holy hell, man...

I saw this for the first time yesterday. I've probably watched it at least 10 times since then. It's just so bad that it's good.

Ah, Animorphs. My childhood is being tugged at right here.

Also, that CGI..... it's as bad as Eiffel 65's Music Videos.
