College Football Uniforms - 2015 Season

I've felt that way for quite awhile now. Even as a former student, I've never been crazy about Maroon and Gold for the Devils. Copper, grey, and white would be an awesome color scheme for ASU. It'll never happen, though.

The "shocker" that we always put up during games is actually a pretty heavily used logo. The RA t shirts when I first started had that logo. Also, this is probably my favorite hat that I own. I get more comments on it when I wear it.

Love Utah's satin all red helmet. The finish gives it enough balance for them to have a red face mask, unlike Arizona's helmet because of it being gloss.

I like ASU's alternate, but they should've just gone with dual pitchforks on the helmet. The asymmetrical look should have just been reserved for Boise, but it got out of hand.

I'm not saying the Nike version of Arizona State's uniforms was great... far from perfect. But I feel like Adidas somehow made it worse.

BETTER:

  • Removed ASU from the sleeve caps.

WORSE:

  • Logo on side of helmet is massive
  • Number on side of helmet is massive
  • Logo on pants is terrible
  • No pattern in the pants... just the tire treads.

Desert Ice?

They missed a marketing opportunity to call Don Henley and Joe Walsh for a halftime show.

The finish on that Utah helmet looks like the same technique as what Oregon wore in the CFP Semifinal.

Exactly what I was thinking. I usually am not a a fan of all red helmets at all but this one looks so beautiful with that finish.

yep, whatever process and paint they used on Oregon, it's the same here. good spot JP

Just went back and looked at Nike's original press release on these uniforms and they're referring to this helmet finish as, "anodized satin."

So we can all add that term to our vernacular now.

nice. good name too, it definitely has that look. the only thing i can find from HGI is "Hydroskin" but they use that term on multiple different finishes and paints

Finally some logoed gloves that don't require the stupid "crossed-over-triangle-hands" pose in order to see the logo.

You can't really blame Adidas for those. They're just an extension of what Nike started. That entire trend is abhorrent, though.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

Utah's new helmet (along with other "satin" finishes) is actually just a matte metallic that Riddell does indeed call "anodized".. It's not a true satin, as anyone who has painted a house knows that satin may have a miniscule touch of "gloss", but no metallic properties like these helmets have.. I know hydroskin graphics are capable of a lot, but this is actually a standard finish offered by Riddell, so some teams may be paying significantly more for essentially the same finish if they're using hydroskin

New maroon pants for Mississippi State:

Interesting...too bad they had to slap the oversized logo on the side. They need to go back to this:

Or if they go back to the DWS 100 unis, they should put that double stripe on here.

That picture looks like a practice jersey?

Why do ASU players always throw up "the Shocker"?

It's not just ASU. Houston has been using the same hand sign since the 70's.

Yeah but...why?

Copied from UH athletics page. TL;DR - The live cougar mascot lost a finger while being transported.

Cougar Hand Sign

In Texas, all of the major universities have adopted a hand sign which signifies to all other Texans where your loyalties lie. The Cougar Hand Sign is no different. Although the original hand sign was the "V" for Victory until 1965, events conspired and a new hand sign was adopted. The inaugural football game between University of Houston and University of Texas during the 1953 campaign witnessed the birth of a blood rivalry between the state's two largest universities at that time. However, it also led to the adoption of another Cougar Hand Sign. During her transport from Houston to Austin, one of the fingers on Shasta's paw was severed when the cage door was closed. As the University of Texas partisans and players caught wind of the accident, they mimicked the animal by bending their thumb over the ring finger against their palm. This gesture implied that the Cougars were invalids. The Cougars would go on to lose the game 28-7.

The cougar faithful, still mindful of the stinging defeat suffered 15 years earlier, never forgot the taunting that they received. The next time the two teams faced off (1968... a whole 15 years later), UH tied UT 20-20. At that point, the students thought there might be a bit of magic in that sign, and the hand sign was adopted replacing the "V".

In 1976, the Cougars first football season in the Southwest Conference, the Coogs & Horns met for the third time ever. The Coogs put a beating on the Longhorns that they have yet to forget 30-0 (a.k.a.the "Dad's Day Massacre") in front of the largest crowd to assemble in Memorial Stadium at that time. That victory ended the Longhorns famed winning streak, and the embarrassment also signaled the end of legendary UT Coach Darryl K. Royal's career. After that victory, the Cougar Hand Sign became firmly entrenched.
