It's not a true satin, as anyone who has painted a house knows that satin may have a miniscule touch of "gloss", but no metallic properties like these helmets have.. I know hydroskin graphics are capable of a lot, but this is actually a standard finish offered by Riddell, so some teams may be paying significantly more for essentially the same finish if they're using hydroskinRiddell may offer something similar but that's not the same as Utah and Oregon have done. in fact, the helmet you're seeing in the Utah promo pictures is a Schutt helmet, and the face mask is painted and finished the same way as the shell. the gloss scale is not as wide for helmets as it is for house paint which includes eggshell, semi-gloss, and about 7 or 8 different finishes. HGI may actually use a variety of finishes in a similar way but it's really no more than just a name rather than an official scale, so even if they use 3 different satin finishes, they still call it satin. which is why it's hard to tell sometimes exactly what they've done in the process, but i'm fairly sure that any Hydroskin finish is a paint base with some sort of clear coat over top. We send our entire team set of helmets (Riddell, Schutt, Xenith, Rawlings) to Riddell for reconditioning. PrimeKnit pattern is present, so they're brand new; I expect them to show up in some games.
