TheRicSlick
Yeah I think it looks great. They're using it for one game as a "military appreciation" helmet. How is this appreciating the military? Just because Navy used it before doesn't mean it's appreciating them.
Fifty8_Black O
This is the most straight ripped off design feature in recent memory for me. There are 2 high schools in the area here that use it and I've seen some small colleges use it too. It had so much cool meaning with navy, looks so lame for everyone else. Geoff
VT isn't even the first team in the commonwealth to use the design. ODU had it last year: Athletic Director: KTU Blue Grassers Football
Lights Out
VT's identity continues to be a trainwreck. I still don't see what was so wrong with this look that it had to be ditched after a year or two for the current crapfest: POTD: 2/4/12 3/4/
lahaye7
Va Tech needs to stick to the classics. Nothing new fangled. And no more Gobbler helmets I am sore, wounded, but not slainI will lay down and bleed a whileAnd then rise up to fight again
ThePeam
The new Virginia Tech helmet that yes is a straight rip-off of Navy a few years back but it is just plain gorgeous!I agree total rip-off, but... it looks really nice. I'd like to see VT wear these against the Buckeyes this season. Â Â
Tracy MidGrady
Not sure why V-Tech stoops to these levels, this is stuff I would expect from Fresno State
MellowTheMyth
Doesn't work for VT as it doesn't match the rest of the set. And I do miss those uniforms that Kam is wearing in the above picture. Â Â
Webfooter
What is with VA Tech? They can't seem to decide on a decent set of helmets or uniform anymore. It's like they've decided to go on their own and not use Nike's design teams to come up with something unique and cohesive.
the_grateful_ted
In this case, military appreciation means totally ripping off one of the military academy's now-fairly iconic helmets
ltjets21
Why do the pros cover up their bare calves but not the college game? NFL rules require socks up to the knees. College doesn't have such uniform rules.I think I like the college way better, especially if monochrome continues to be a thing. The sock length in college prevents the leggings look.i love striped socks but i think players at all levels should have a warm and cold weather option. hot weather = short socks; cold weather = longI've noticed that Iowa players tend to wear matching tall black/white socks more often than those in most programs. Not sure if it's something that's requested by the coaching staff, or just a trend. A few seasons ago, it seemed as if all of Iowa's players wore these.interesting, those look like NFL style socks, which i believe are 2 pieces and thats the reason you get the thousands of different variations on how they're worn. some players wear spandex underneath too which can make for some really odd looks. if a football league were to go with my suggestion of short/long options i'd like for the long socks to be 1 piece, solid color with stripes printed on or woven in. I think White Socks with black cleats looks terrible, thats why I'm not a fan of the Nfl rule... Unless the team has white cleats I think its a bad look. I love what Bielema is doing overall wih our program but I absolutely can't stand the black cleat/white sock look that he implemented when he came in. The red/white cleats that we wore under Petrino just looked so much better.
