Unocal
Every NL team outside of San Francisco is praying the Giants make the playoffs. NOBODY can beat Bochy/Posey etc. when it matters. If they get in.... look out. Cardinals/Pirates? Beat em last year. Mets/Cubs? Too little experience? AL- already beat KC and the others haven't been there in a while. The World Series IMHO is theirs to lose unless the Dodgers/Rockies this week can show some stones and do what nobody has done since 2004, honestly- beat the Giants when it counts in a money game. ninersdd
Forgot how this works, but if the Dodgers and Giants finished tied at the end of the year, would the Giants get in over them since they clinched the season series yesterday, or would it be a one game playoff regardless? TheOldRoman
Pmoehrin, that's not true. If both teams tied and had a Wild Card spot, there would be a tiebreaker between them, with the loser playing in the Wild Card game and homefield for that game being determined by record. So the Giants could have potentially played a tiebreaker in LA, lost, then had to get on a plane to Pittsburgh for the WC game.

So the Giants could have potentially played a tiebreaker in LA, lost, then had to get on a plane to Pittsburgh for the WC game. That is correct.Forgive me for being wrong, but I think the confusion is understandable. When you keep changing play in rules every five or ten years, things can get a little confusing.Personally I disagree with that rule. I think its dumb to have a play in game to determining seeding. I'd almost rather not play the game and take the Wild Card spot then win it if given the choice.
TheOldRoman
According to MLB rules:Two-Club Tie for Division Championship and Wild Card:One tiebreak game will be played to determine the Division Champion. The loser of the game will be declared a Wild Card. Home field advantage will be determined by the rules above for a two-team tiebreaker.Under the previous format, the Dodgers would be declared the Wild Card. That's what happened to the Cardinals in 2001 when they tied with the Astros. The new system, with the intent of making division titles more meaningful and making the path harder for WC teams, has a mandatory tiebreaker for the division. Head-to-head record is only used to determine homefield for a tiebreaker game or the WC game if both teams have the same record.

FiddySicks
Well, that's about what I expected from the Giants this year. Probably more. They gave me about a month more of meaningful baseball than I expected, so at least there's that. As for the playoffs, go anyone not named the Dodgers!
