It was the right call. Kind of a silly rule, but the right call.

Yes, the ump should have called it a live ball. But he called it dead. Martin and Donaldson made no effort to throw him out as a result. The call on the field should stand. F--king bulls--t.

You know what, I believe the umps made the right decision.

Treat this as a situation where there's a right-handed batter and a guy's trying to steal third base. As long as the batter is in the batter's box and is doing their normal thing and isn't trying to interfere, they're a legal obstacle for the catcher. The onus is on the catcher to throw around them. My high school baseball coach told us catchers to lean slightly to our left when throwing the ball back to the pitcher when there was a lefty at bat.

Now, I believe a dead ball call can be overturned if it's believed the result wouldn't have been affected, and it looks to me that Odor wasn't going to be thrown out.

Yes, that's fine. But the ump was calling the ball dead before the runner scored. That's Toronto's problem.

The home plate ump called it dead. Who's to say that Donaldson wouldn't have thrown him out, but instead he held up because the umpire said it was a dead ball.

Yeah this is the problem I have. The ump called it dead. How the hell can that be overruled?

I think it's because a play in baseball doesn't have to be "officially" over when an ump or a ref stops play, unlike the rest of the big 4 sports.

I think umps can go back and award or take away bases based on what was happening prior to time being called if a ball is in play.
