Pretty much knew that you'd have to attach a bone to get a team to agree to take on BJ Upton and his contract (assuming the Braves aren't picking up much-to-any of his deal), nor does having a lights-out closer do you much good if you're not going to contend this season.

The Padres will be responsible for all of the $46.3 million Upton is owed.

Yeah, just read that myself. Figured having Kimbrel under contract for three years would require the Padres to assume most or all of BJ's contract.

Not sure of the money coming in, but the Braves just shed $80 million for the next three years. Gives them some money to throw around for free agency or acquiring talent through trades later on.

This is the Braves' 12th trade made since the end of last season. John Hart not screwing around. Word is, they waited as late as possible in the spring to announce this trade in order to maintain ticket sales.

Melvin "Player Formerly Known As BJ" Upton and Craig Kimbrel are allegedly headed to San Diego in exchange for Cameron Maybin and Carlos Quentin.

What in the world are you thinking, Hotlanta?

So Justin and B.J. Melvin really are attached at the hip aren't they?

Well, I've got Tyson Ross on my fantasy team... this can only help his W-L record, if anything.

Hooray!

Atlanta had better hope the rest of the NL East isn't already too many laps ahead by 2017 when they plan on essentially re-joining MLB.

Wonder how poor the Braves' attendance will be this season. Btw, I think the SunTrust Stadium images make it less attractive than Turner Field... that thing might be aged before it opens, looks like Shea Stadium 2.0.

The Braves didn't become a small market team, they realized it was time to rebuild and get rid of worthless contracts (Upton). What makes me chuckle is everyone who is on the Padre bandwagon. I can understand picking up one or two big names to fill a need, but the Padres are just picking up contract after contract and not worrying about chemistry or whether these players can play or play a full season. They've got the big contract of Kemp, the big contracts of the Uptons... and then they have Will Meyers which equals 4 outfielders. Oh yeah, it's going to start again, Matt Kemp crying about not starting when the Pads realize he ain't the player he use to be. I'm laughing at the disfunction that will be the last place Padres. We've seen it time after time, when a team makes this many moves, they flop. Having Kimbrell save 25 games for a last place team is pointless, but whatever. So long as the GM is happy and thinks this is Fantasy League Baseball, that's all that matters.

Why did they play God Bless America before the game?

If they're going to sing it, that's the time to do it. With all the talk of speeding up the game, that's an easy way to shave a couple of minutes.

Didn't Rizzo make a claim the Cubs were winning the division in spring training? I mean, c'mon kid, do you not know this team's history? Seriously.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

Boy, Wrigley looks like hell. The outfield looks like a haunted house or something -- that ivy is gross.

Why in the world did they ever decide to play the opening game of the year at Wrigley when it's right smack in the middle of a renovation? Even if everything would've ended up getting finished on time, that still seems like a really poor decision.
