I know that sculpture doesn't specifically state it, but in general the Reds have to come to terms with the fact that they were NOT formed in 1869.

Who cares? Cincinnati has had professional baseball since 1869.

But the franchises are completely unrelated. Plenty of cities have had pro teams since the 1870's, but the Reds are the only team to lie about their foundation date.

The only reason I'd care at all is that the Reds are straight up lying about being the oldest professional baseball team in the world. There's no relation between them and that 1869 team besides the city they played in and having similar names.

Oh well...I guess "Boston Red Sox, Est. 1871".

with your logic, a city shouldn't celebrate it's sports history.

The teams shouldnt when they are 2 completely different franchises, the Baltimore Ravens aren't going to celebrate the Baltimore Colts title. They should celebrate the ones they won (and the ones the won as the Browns but that's a discussion for another day)

From what I know, the only reason the Reds aren't considered a "continuous" operation is because in the early 1880's they were banned from playing in the league for a year because they played games on Sunday and allowed liquor in their park. So, it may not technically be correct due to outside circumstances, It's not a terribly egregious example, like the Nats one I posted above.

Teammates with Refsnyder huh? That's cool!

Yup! He was a big goof back in high school, but damn if he didn't make up for it with his pure athleticism. He's actually got a great story when it comes to his family life too. Good kid. Happy to see he finally made it up there.

And he hit a homer on Sunday. Not a bad way to start your career as a Yankee, hitting a home run in Fenway.

Not just in Fenway, but over the Monster too!

If the Angels fire Mike Scocia he will have a job 2.5 seconds later, and if they are not careful it will be in Chavez Ravine.

Do you seriously think that the Friedman/Zaidi brain trust would jump at hiring Scioscia with his history of blowing off analytics?

Anaheim people - what's the deal with the Angels? I've read comments are various places about Moreno being a turd, Scioscia quitting or being fired, the GM quitting or being fired, but I haven't heard the whole story. Considering the Angels are in first place, I imagine it's all due to politics.

1) Moreno is definitely a turd, but I'm not sure it applies to that current situation.

2) Scioscia ain't quitting, and if the team keeps going like it is, I don't know if he'd be fired. If they miss the playoffs, it'd be a real possibility. If they flame out in the first round, I don't know if I'd count it out either. But who knows.

3) Yes, Jerry DiPoto did resign. Whether it was via ultimatum or his own choice has been debated, but officially he quit. And yes, even when he did quit and especially now that the Angels got into first place, it's all about politics. DiPoto and his crew created these analytic and stats reports for the coaches and players to use. Reportedly, Scioscia ignored them, going with his gut a lot of the time. Scioscia said he took them in and read them, but I have my doubts.

It all was a microcosm of the strained relationship DiPoto and Scioscia had ever since Moreno hired DiPoto. Dipoto had also been a bit hamstrung by Moreno putting together the Pujols and Hamilton deals. And at the end of it, it sounded like it was just DiPoto being sick of having to fight Scioscia on every little thing. And if the reports of a closed door meeting in the locker room are true with Pujols saying that DiPoto didn't improve the team, that could have been the final straw that if he didn't have the manager and didn't have the players, what was the point?

So, I gotta say it. I absolutely LOVE this Home Run Derby format. This is probably the most entertaining derby I can ever remember.

Plus Berman is only working a half shift and even then doesn't have enough time to bloviate.

You really are a sad and angry little man, aren't you?

No, I'm just tired of Frazier beating everyone in the derby.

Every single time I get behind someone, they lose to him.

Can we PLEASE have a Derby Final without Todd next year?

I think every single time Sabres has posted here, it's followed the exact same format.

You: I hate [insert whatever here]

Us: Huh? Why?

You: I'm just SO tired of [insert something that exhausts you]. Can this PLEASE change?!

Wash, rinse, repeat.
