This month has been a gauntlet for the Giants, and they've performed about as well as I expected them to (not very). I figured it would be the final nail for them if they played poorly, but the Dodgers are struggling so bad that they've let the Giants linger despite some fairly mediocre baseball from them. That plays into the Giants favor going into September where the schedule eases up a bit, there are more home games, and we get a bunch of head to heads with the Dodgers. If LA really wants to get the Giant (pun totally intended) monkey off their back and FINALLY reclaim superiority in that rivalry, they're going to have to earn it by beating the Giants face to face (something they haven't been terribly successful at in the last five hears, despite all the talent).

We're headed towards the final stretch and two of the biggest rivals in all of sports are separated by two games with a BUNCH of head-to-head match ups left. Forget the Wild Card. The Central has a pretty tight grasp on that right now. If either team wants to get into the playoffs, they're gonna have to win the west. On one end you have the Dodgers trying to wrestle superiority back from a team that's been nothing but magic in the post season lately. On the other hand, you've got the Giants who are trying to (like always) scrape together enough wins to top a team with a $307 million payroll. And it's about damn time, too. This is EXACTLY what I've been hoping for most of my rooting life. I HATE the Dodgers and always have. But going down to the wire with them in the last month makes this whole thing so much more exciting. It's a reason why the Giants and Dodgers both being competitive is so important for baseball. It's a great storyline and one we really haven't gotten to see enough of (in comparison to Red Sox Yankees which is so overplayed and run into the ground at this point).

This is going to be an AWESOME final month.

A's 3B coach Mike Gallego dismissed; Ron Washington to replace him.

Glad they fixed their biggest problem on the left side of the infield.

Well the Angels just got swept by the Jays with a total score of 36-10 over the three games.

Yeah, breaking news: the Angels suck. 9-20 in their last 29 (17-3 in the previous 20)

This organization needs a long hard look in the face. They are going to waste and/or lose Mike Trout because they refuse to actually fill the holes on the team. They've gotten lucky with some nice performances from shoestring replacements last year and at points this year, but as a larger whole, they're just not good enough.

Talk about full circle.

I haven't been able to find a MiLB thread so I'll put it here:

The Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals) of the Carolina League (High A) are potentially nearing a deal to be bought by the Texas Rangers and will be relocated as well as promoted to Double A. In corresponding moves, the Binghamton Mets will move to Wilmington and the California League (High A) will send the Bakersfield Blaze (Mariners) and High Desert Mavericks (Rangers) to the Carolina League. Thus meaning the Carolina League expands to 10 teams while the California League shrinks to 8. All of this to happen as early as next season.

So will the Binghamton Mets become the Wilmington Blue Rocks? I've always loved the Blue Rocks' identity and would hate to see it go.

I think they would still retain the "Mets" nickname. Personally, I don't like minor league teams having the same name as their MLB team. For now, we'll have to wait.

Hey Houston, thanks a bunch. If you guys can beat the Yanks again we'll take care of Texas for ya, alright? And then maybe you'll lie down for us? How does that sound?

As optimistic as I am, I'm about to stick a pitchfork in the Giants. Too many damn injuries and other than Bumgarner, the pitching is blah. The Dodgers or Mets are guaranteed a spot in the NLCS while the Cards, Pirates and Cubs tear each other apart in the other side of the bracket.

Unless Frisco is moving up to AAA, Wilmington being promoted to AA makes no sense at all.

I just noticed this the other day.

The 2nd- and 3rd-best teams will play a one game play-in game and the winner gets the top seed, while the 4th- and 5th-best teams will be playing each other. And the Cardinals (assuming they stay the 1-seed) will get to play a team that's likely used their top starting pitcher and perhaps a used bullpen. How does a franchise catch so many breaks?
