Maximus89 Posted September 15, 2015 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Consistently bad taste is what i expect from the Rockets or at least Les Alexander. They need to burn everything and start over. But they won't. Maybe it's going to happen after Nike takes over, and maybe that's actually best to be patient and wait for that but i can't help but feel impatient because i am so sick and tired of this brand. In that Grantland article about uniform rankings, Zach Lowe mentions how Leslie Alexander wanted to rebrand because their look had become synonymous with losing but then the championships came and it was too late to turn back and thus came the real hideous cartoon pajamas that are now synonymous with losing. The thing is if they really did regret changing, why have they never gone back to anything close to the real Clutch City days? 8 years of those hideous blue things? Couldn't they have rebranded again around the 99/00 season if they really regretted it? And then when they had the chance, they go for a team Asia Chinese takeout box looking uniform with no sign of yellow or gold. 20 total years and all we got was a poorly made alternate that is more based on the early 70s Rockets look with the overuse of yellow/gold. It's going to be 12 years and for sure a 13th year next year with this current brand even though players and fans have been asking for change for at least the past 5 years. But yay, we get a stupid sleeved jersey and a gray and black jersey? Do we want to be the Spurs next? Who the hell is in charge of all of this? They are really out of touch with the real fanbase. After seeing all of their jerseys together on stage at the unveiling the other night, I have a few ideas for things they could do to make improvements.For one, I would make the orange the primary road jersey. If they want to slap "Phoenix" on it instead of "Suns," then fine. But with their current identity, having a purple as a primary jersey makes zero sense.Make the purple an alternate jersey and/or pride jersey. Purple works as an alternate or pride jersey because it could be seen as a nod to the team's history, but it does not work as a primary jersey. Again, having a purple primary jersey when there is no purple in the primary logo makes no sense.Then, make the black jersey the "los suns" jersey. They don't need a black jersey, but if they want one that bad, that could be an excuse to have one.Ditch the gray jersey and the white "los suns" jerseys altogether.Their identity still has some major issues but this could be a way to fix it. It may be the best uniform they've ever had in their entire existence...As Conrad noted on Twitter, side panel is a nod to Gemini Titan rockets of the 60's. Maximus89 Posted September 16, 2015 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I'm just tired of the black trend. Sadly it's the SPURS color and i want nothing to do with either black or silver. Yet we get both a black and a silver uniform. I do believe black does make sense for the Rockets more than most if not all teams in the league seeing as how space is mostly black and were Space City. But, it's just not our team color and doesn't feel right to me. All that said, the actual design of that black uniform is pretty cool. If it was red with white and some gold thrown in somewhere and a home version with mostly red and a bit of gold thrown in with "Rockets" wordmark, i'd be satisfied with my only problem being the letters don't look like they match the 'R' logo. We should really play up Space City. As far as them adopting the black uniform style for primary home and away, has any team ever done that before? I remember many very popular alternate uniforms, but never one that was so popular it was used as a template for a rebrand. But, i may be mistaken of course. These jerseys are so incredibly stupid they're turning the NBA into a real joke. As a Pistons fan I totally despise the Motor City alts despite the fact that the nickname refers to the city in itself as a de facto nickname known worldwide. Imagine when a jersey not only features a nickname but one that only refers to the city because of a team like clutch city and rip city...
