I'm not sure if it's true or not, but I read somewhere that the baby blues were actually a mistake by the manufacturer. But instead of returning them, the owners of the Kings owners asked for a discount and used the baby blues.

That's the most Sacramento Kings sounding thing I've ever heard. I completely believe that. I bet it was some rinky dink local screen print shop off of Watt who did the jerseys too.

That was just what I was going to say ... going to go digging on this. Seems like an awesome untold story.

I believe I was the culprit of sharing this info. I heard it from a Kings beat writer at the time who had heard it from a team executive. I unfortunately do not have any links to offer.  The owner had brought the team to Sacramento, and was a hero of sorts here, but was unable to keep up with the wealthier clubs, and was notoriously cheep. His inability to maintain the league's ever-expanding expenditures and salaries forced him to eventually sell to the Maloofs, and makes this story fit so perfectly into Sacramento Kings lore.

Yeah, that sounds about right. The Kings have always had this aura of being run with the funding of your local AAU club, so that doesn't surprise me one bit. The fact that they got a new building that isn't just another glorified high school gymnasium (like Arco is) is kind of a miracle, actually. It's gonna feel REALLY strange for the Kings to not be slumming it any more.

One of the hosts of a daily sports program on the local ESPN radio station (Whitey Gleason) told the powder blue story on the air today. Thought it was funny considering the timing of this discussion on the board. He said he heard the story from a couple people inside the organization at that time while he was a local sports reporter.

The court looks georgeous. I hope it finds its way to the new building.

holy crap, has anyone ever noticed ESPN's color choice with mobile or regular for the Hornets? this is mildly infuriating

I think it's alright, though the Windy City part kinda sucks. Nice modernization of the original though. Here's the secondary which looks pretty cool too (via Twitter) :

(I know that guy. He's pretty awesome and has a terrific Twitter account.)

I really like the logos. Reminiscent of the NBA Bulls but original enough to stand on their own. Well done.

This Bulls' D-League name is a emblematic of a very good trend: the naming of the team after the parent club.  This follows the Westchester Knicks and the new Long Island Nets.  And, before that, the Warriors and Spurs changed the nicknames of their D-League teams to their own.

It seems that NBA teams are slowly realising that a D-Leauge team should not have its own identity. The appeal to fans of a D-League team is based entirely on its being an extension of the parent club; so that team's identity should strongly mirror that of the parent club.

Though it is a chance to pull out elements from parent club's history, as the Westchester Knicks do with their 80s wordmark.  This is why I hold out some hope that the Long Island Nets might incorporate something from the Nets' classic uniforms into their look and wind up looking better than the parent club.  (Well, except for the presence of an advert on the uniform.)

I.....kind of....sort of....like the Hawks new unis. They've grown on me.

Not so much the mismatching top and shorts, but I like the sublimated patterning and volt with the red and black.

Very weird because I consider myself an ultra-traditionalist when it comes to sports unis.

I'm going to go take a long look at myself in the mirror and rethink my life.
