NBA Changes 2015-16 Season

So I've been so busy with work and life in general during this NBA season that I haven't even gotten a chance to watch a Warriors game.  Not that I am a Warriors fan, but this is a historic season for them, so I want to catch at least one of their games, to see this amazing team play.

I finally have a free night to myself at home tonight, I found out earlier today that the Warriors are playing on ESPN tonight.  Great!  Now I have a chance to watch them work towards making history.  As a plus, I get to see them play in those gorgeous blue and gold road jerseys...right?

As soon as I turn to ESPN, I see Steph Curry take off his warmup shirt and I see that hideous, depressing, black sleeved alternate with white trim.  Yuck!  I guess I'll still watch the game, but what a ugly/depressing looking matchup, with these ugly black sleeved things against the Grizzlies in their boring navy and white scheme with barely noticeable light blue and yellow.  Such a letdown.

Jerseys shouldn't affect enjoyment of a game that much, but when they're that ugly, they do.

I had some work to do tonight so I was basically half watching the game, and I seriously kept confusing the two teams because that slate looks kinda Navy. That set is terrible, and is so inferior compared to their primary set and their awesome "The City" throwback. That's all they need. Ditch everything else.

I like the Warriors black sleeved unis best out of all their sets. The Chinese New Year set is one of my favs in the league.

I can't believe I've just read this...

Some of those all-star jerseys were really nice. I especially liked the 2009 edition:

lol. I just don't think the Warriors primary uniforms are all that great. Not bad but not great either.

Disappointed with the spurs in black at home, and GS in white.

Ditto. Seems unnecessary.

So the Thunder have worn their white sleeved jerseys for the last 6 consecutive home games. As an avid follower of the team, and as a uniform lover, I asked a few beat writers on Twitter for the reason. One got back to me and said that it has been the players' decision to wear them. They supposedly like them.

KD commented a few years ago after OKC wore the blue sleeved Christmas jerseys that he liked the sleeves. I remember him saying that it was a matter of preference and that some liked the sleeves and others did not (I believe his answer was to a question about LeBron criticizing the sleeved jerseys).

Under new coach Billy Donovan, the team has had a noticeable change in their uniform rotation. Former coach Scott Brooks seemed to be a big advocate of tradition, as the team only wore their navy alternate and white sleeved jersey on the league-mandated scheduled dates. He mostly preferred the team in their standard home whites and away blues. However, under Billy, the team has worn the white sleeved jersey often at home, and seem to wear the new Sunset alternates at an abnormal clip too. I believe at the beginning of the year, the team scheduled to wear the orange jerseys only on Sunday home games and the white sleeved uni's 4 times.

So, Billy D might give the players more discretion in the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the team wears the white sleeved alternate or the orange Sunset alternate during the playoffs. Under Scott Brooks, the team never wore anything but their standard home and away uniforms.

Interesting development to watch for those that care. For those that don't, carry on...

I can't seem to remember. Since the introduction of sleeved unis, has any team actually worn them in the playoffs?

I actually kinda like OKC's white sleeved alts. That identity is all over the place anyway, so they might as well go all the way with it.

I've been wondering if the Spurs were supposed to play in silver uniforms that night because the referees had white jerseys.

I think this puts the question to rest regarding which number(s) the Lakers will eventually retire for Kobe.
