I was really surprised at how lopsided the Rose Bowl was. I was one of those guys that thought Iowa was much better than the credit they were given, and really thought they had a shot today. But - and not to take anything away from them - maybe I expected a little too much out of them. I mean, when your O-Line is basically Swiss cheese and filled with holes that Stanford can waltz through, you just can't score. It felt like C.J. Beathard was a helpless piñata the whole game, and even when he did have precious seconds to make a play, the pass usually got dropped. Just a much poorer showing from Iowa than I expected.

But hey, you've gotta tip your cap a couple times to McCaffrey. That's one of the most dominant individual performances I've ever seen in a bowl game.

Too bad he had that "college was the best 12 years of my life" guy behind him during the postgame.

New Year's Six games ratings down 13%.

Luckily, New Year's Eve 2016 is a Saturday.

More Bill Hancock....

"That decline, frankly, is not much of a surprise and it's modest," College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock said. "It's too soon to know how much was due to the lopsided games or how much what I think we all thought would be an inevitable decline from the excitement of the first year or the semifinals on New Year's Eve. I suspect it's a combination of those three, but I don't have any idea what the weighting is. ESPN is studying the numbers and we'll learn a lot more in the next few months."

The games were blowouts if they were close I think ratings would have been better.

Capital One Orange Bowl started just after 1PM Pacific and if you add the Mountain Time Zone, 24% of the US population was not at a TV set, hence the large streaming number since work tracks hard internet feeds and their wifi, but phone network streaming isnt tracked.

Every year everybody overreacts to how the conferences play in the bowl games as if the games are anything more than glorified exhibition games chock full of rosters loaded with players who've already announced their intention to enter the draft and have varying levels of motivation for the games. The SEC had a down year and I think they're about to set the record for bowl wins in a season. It doesn't mean anything.

Also, when comparing playoff ratings, Oregon/Florida State last year was a blowout and it did well, so I'm not sure blowouts are the reason. Oklahoma/Clemson was a damn good game for the first half.

Nobody watched the Oklahoma Clemson game because it was played in the middle of the day on the last day of the year. Contrary to most holidays, a lot of people have to work. And even if they don't, it's the last opportunity to dot your i's and cross your t's when it comes to things like finances and insurance. There's a LOT more important things people have to take care of than watching a semi-final football game.

It was not that they weren't watched because they were streamed greatly and TV advertisers don't to reach streamers.

The upcoming NCAA season will be OK as the Peach and Fiesta will be on a Saturday and the since the Tournament of Roses is never on Sunday, so it will be on January 2 and will do well in ratings.

I need to pick up a new set of lawn chairs for my back yard this summer. They can't be out there all the time due to the rain, and I don't have much storage space for them. Maybe I'll try to get them from the Ducks. I've heard they fold pretty easily.

SO stoked I'm missing the start of the Devils game because of this choke job.

Well K-State lost again. I think that it is time for Snyder to retire. He is a great coach and I am thankful for all that he has done for the university but his style of play is no longer working. It may do just fine against inferior teams and against some in the Big XII but on a national scale it does not work. I have watched darn near every game for the last 6 years and I can see that they peaked with the conference championship in 2012. I am not saying I expect national championships or 10 win seasons year in year out but a bowl win more than once in six tries would be great. It is time for some new blood. And NOT Sean Snyder. I would like an outside hire. Hopefully one of his old assistants.
