NFL Merry-Go-Round: Relocation Roundelay

I agree. There will be a team in LA next year.

Meanwhile, San Diego has unveiled its proposal:

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/2015/aug/10/stadium-financing-chargers-eir-chicago/

The Chargers are playing it very cool, no doubt hoping to increase the public contribution above the $350M the city and county are proposing. But it's interesting - either they or the Rams will move, possibly leaving public money on the table in the cities they leave.

The Chargers turned down the San Diego proposal. Flat. I read somewhere in an article Monday afternoon that they've (at least for the moment) broken off talks, and that at least one city official involved in the deal has now taken an attitude of ":censored: it, let 'em go."

They want the city to put in more than $350 million is ultimately what is the issue. And this is after the city has increased it's portion of the bill UP to $350 million (and even that may not be doable given the public attitude toward public funding in California). The city will never throw in more than that... and if that means the team leaves... so be it. No one in San Diego will miss them at this point as they've pretty thoroughly salted the earth here.

I genuinely think that at this point we're looking at the Rams staying in St. Louis and the Chargers and Raiders moving to LA. That just seems to be how things are coming together.

But there's still months before a decision and variables yet to be determined, so I'm not making a prediction. Just feels like that's the way it's going.

Oh it's definitely the way it's going. St Louis is ponying up for the Rams. Oakland has all but thrown in the towel. San Diego is trying but the Chargers are not playing ball. That leaves you with one city of the 3 that has a viable long term chance of keeping their team. Not hard to see which way the NFL will sus this out. They'd have announced Chargers and Raiders to LA already if not for the fact San Diego keeps giving them a little more, and then a little more. The league wants to see if they can get an acceptable amount of blood from the stone that is San Diego. If not, they'll make the announcement.

And I can tell you now, that they're not going to get any more blood from the stone. It's only a matter of time.

Well....crap.

It's ok. I like it when the Rams get booed for a full 60 minutes in their home stadium.

EDIT: A whopping 6 fans showed up at the league meetings in Goddamn Chicago to rally to keep the Rams in St. Louis. That's like only 4 1/2 hours. This sucks.

Wow. So after all of the YEARS of Los Angeles nonsense, it's going to be the Chargers, the absolute WORST option, that ends up in LA while St. Louis gets a new (empty) stadium in St. Louis and the Raiders end up, I dunno, on the moon or something.

The NFL/the Chargers/the city of St. Louis can go get bent.

10,000 people from Greater St. Louis probably show up in Wrigley when the Cards play there, and that's just a pointless regular season game. The team's existence in St. Louis is on the line, and you've got Coyote-scale fan rallies. JESUS! Can we stop pretending that this is a good market for the NFL or that it's going to work if you just give it more time and a new, cheaply built stadium that has no roof or no other way to protect the fans from the element, yet sits in a humid swamp that also magically gets the cold of winter in December?

That makes sense for the NFL, Chargers and Raiders (although they're inconsequential). I could see the NFL telling the Rams to stay put because they don't want any teams to turn down a free or largely paid-for stadium. However, if Kronke owns land in LA and wants to put the team there, I don't think Goddell telling him to do it for the good of the league would suffice. From the bit I've followed of this story, it doesn't look like Kronke really wants to stay in StL much. If the Chargers truly are moving to LA, this is going to get really messy in the courts between the league and the Rams.

And then complain about the noise and traffic and crowding in Chicago and how awful Wrigley Field is. Then why come here?!?

I hope to god Rams do this because there is no way in hell I could support those franchises, ownership and fans are unbelievably insufferable, lIke id prefer no teams over them, and i know im not the only one. I also think it would be funny to see the NFL get put down by the Rams and them end up in LA with the other two despite what goodell and the rest of the league wants.

I know the LA market is really sexy, but is it worth it to leave $350M on the table in San Diego when that's presumably money that you'll have to finance yourself and pay debt on for the next 30 years? Won't that eat up a lot of the extra revenue you'll bring in?

I still think the Rams are the ones in front primarily because they are the only team who has a stadium that is ready to break ground in Los Angeles. Couple that with the information that came out last week where the Coliseum is the only existing stadium in Los Angeles willing to host a team, but can only host one team, it makes sense for the Rams to move to Los Angeles first. They'll play in the Coliseum for two seasons while their stadium is being built and once it's ready, the second team will move to Los Angeles.

The NFL, legally, cannot force an owner to stay in a city or pay money for a stadium in a city they don't want to play in. That's what some of you are missing. Kroenke does not want to be in St. Louis and has the financial capacity to play else where. Furthermore, that new stadium the city of St. Louis is purposing will need some of Kroenke's money, which he is not obligated to give.

My money is on the Rams announcing the move and gaining support from the NFL which then will force the Chargers to make a decision and I bet you they'll end up sharing the Rams' stadium with them in Inglewood.

Thus, leaving the Raiders in Oakland or free to look elsewhere (ie-St. Louis, San Diego, etc.)

The only thing dumber than the idea of the St. Louis Raiders is the idea of the San Diego Raiders.

I think the Raiders are gone no matter what. That's what it sounds like coming from the NFL. I think now, the decision between the three teams is really a battle between the Rams and Chargers. The Raiders will piggy back on whoever wins between the Rams and Chargers.

If anything I hope its the Rams who rise to the top, as I have said months before. If I was LA, I would probably want those guys instead of the Chargers. And additionally, the Rams have more history there than the other two teams eyeing the city.

As for the Raiders and Chargers, if they don't get the green light, there's always Oklahoma City, Mexico City, San Antonio, or...wait for it...wait for it...London!

I don't think Kroenke wants to stay in STL at all. And I think he might be willing to file a lawsuit. But I question whether he'd still desire to go to LA if the Chargers and Raiders are already on their way.

I think in that scenario Kroenke would have to break ground and reach an agreement with a temporary stadium and just move overnight if he wants to be the first to LA.

And he might do that. But I'm not sure he would or not.
