NFL Merry-Go-Round: Relocation Roundelay

You won't see me calling Bernie a talentless hack. Bernie is extremely good at his job. One of the best local columnists in the country even if he gets a bit cranky sometimes.

Bernie's competent at baseball, but sucks at football. He sucked even more once John Shaw was removed from the Rams and therefore unable to feed him inside information. Of course, then the petulance began to ramp up, so *shrug*.

Sadly, he recently called it quits from the Post-Dispatch and moved to radio full-time (though he still writes for the radio station's website).

O RLY?!

As a columnist, inside information isn't really his job. Some get it, but that's not the role of a columnist. Bernie usually swung and missed every time he tried to play the reporter role (and he'll own up to it, too). Remember how Matt Painter was about to be announced as Mizzou's next head coach? And he badly misread Stan Kroenke (and as a result mislead readers).

But as columnist, he's great. Really across the board. His primary weakness is hockey, but he still gets it.

Now, I don't always agree with him, and he's developed a tendency to make up an imaginary faction of people with bad opinions to give him something to rally against. But he's still a good columnist. He's good on the radio too, but the grumpiness gets even worse there, so I wasn't thrilled with the move.

I would suggest that the first sentence disproves the second.

Good columnists don't need to knock down straw men. Much less "great" ones.

And every time I read his football columns, there's a wishy-washy, mealy-mouthed "you should totally be supporting the Rams but I totally understand why you don't want to but you absolutely should even though I agree with you that no sane human would" thing going on.

Trying to pander to everyone simultaneously. Sad really.

Bernie also criticized people like me who saw this coming years ago, saying something along the lines of trust the process.

In all these build a stadium of we'll move scenarios the owner is always heard at some point about how they want nothing more than to stay in current said city.

Bernie has the Pro Football Hall of Fame vote (and does a great job with it).

I believe every member of the GSOT not named Marshall Faulk would take exception to your claim.

Because they didn't all get in their first year of eligibility? The guy has a reputation as being a great presenter and a hard worker to determine who deserves his support and his votes.

There will always be a wide-range of views on media members, but this seems like a weird point to attack him on.

Did the 49ers ever offer to jointly build Levis with the Raiders? If so it would be easy to see the NFL telling them to take a hike if the Rams and Chargers are determined to get to LA.

No, they did not.

When Santa Clara voters passes Measure J, it allowed the 49ers control the lease terms regarding a second tenant.

There was some talk initially in the planning stage for them to share the building, but the Niners mostly balked at the idea and, from what I remember, basically lowballed the Raiders to the point where it was a non starter (I think they wanted like 80% of the profits from concessions and parking for all Raiders home games).

Buc pretty much nailed it - when the 49ers first, failed stadium project was being put together, they asked Al Davis to be involved as an equal partner. Al told them to go kick sand. After that, the 49ers attitude became, "if the Raiders come along that's fine, but it'll be under our terms."

Carson Stadium Video Pitch:

In watching that, I thought of at least three ways fans could either be harmed to a point where lawsuits will cause design changes, or disrupt games on the field.
