Soccer was something I really didn't understand before my current job, and it came across as so boring. But now I see that it's basically like baseball, but in reverse. In baseball, there isn't much that goes on, but it's all strategy trying to set things up when nothing is happening. It's boring as all hell if you don't understand that, but that's fantastic if you understand the purpose. No sport holds my attention better than baseball specifically for that reason. Soccer has a TON going on, but it seems like nothing is happening. But in the same sense, it's all setting up a certain strategy. Now that I better "Get" the whole purpose? There isn't much that I enjoy more than soccer. If I'm being totally honest, being a Vikings fan also helped me reach my breaking point with the NFL. It's a certain kind of madness to endure five heartbreaking NFC title game defeats that leave you emotionally drained. You start to ask yourself: why do I do this? So I just declared myself done. If the Vikings lose on Sunday? Fine. If they win? Fine. And should they finally make it to the Super Bowl for the first time since I was three-months old, I have no problem jumping on the bandwagon at that point. There's no fan council to tell me I'm a fraud. I have no one to answer to but myself. And man, not giving a :censored:'s really made a difference. The_Admiral
What's more, a "fair amount" of the Raiders SSL buyers live in L.A. and will hop on I-15 on weekends, an executive with knowledge of the sales says. It has left a few owners and team officials worried and irritated that the Raiders have siphoned off part of an already wary L.A. fan base. On 10/15/2019 at 11:40 AM, the admiral said: This Las Vegas deal is starting to feel like an extremely elaborate end-run around being the L.A. Raiders again, where they will heavily mine Southern California for business partnerships, bus everyone in from there for gamedays, and otherwise just so happen to play the games in Nevada. The upshot in all this is that the Chargers are very dumb. good job good effort you guys 4 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
Gothamite
What an amazing article. Quote A PHONE CALL between Kroenke and Goodell in the autumn of 2015 was a harbinger for the current impasse. On Nov. 4, Kroenke was on his cellphone on the small patio of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in the heart of Beverly Hills. The secret ballot in Houston was still two months away, and the Carson project seemed to be gaining traction with owners, mostly out of loyalty to Spanos, who believed at the time he was close to the votes he needed. Kroenke was willing to do whatever it took to return the Rams to L.A. -- including partnering with Spanos. "I want you in L.A. with Stan," Jones had told Spanos. Normally quiet and reserved, Kroenke was hot. "No. No! No, Roger!" Kroenke said. "I've been out there, spending millions, and everybody else is piggybacking on everything I've done, not spending a dime, letting me take all the heat, and then they think they're going to get to step in? I don't think so." He wasn’t wrong. And then there’s this: Quote In December 2016, (Dean Spanos) stood before a room of owners and league executives at the Four Seasons in Irving, Texas, looking like a man who had lost much more than a vote. He was 66 and at the low point of his 22 years running the Chargers. After losing to Kroenke, he had returned to San Diego and lost again, blowing $15 million on a long-shot ballot initiative for a new stadium, destroying any remaining goodwill and trust with a loyal fan base. A broken man, Spanos was out of options. "I don't want to go to L.A.," Spanos said. "I want to stay." Many owners sympathized with Spanos, but some were also frustrated by him. The league's $550 million relocation fee that Spanos would need to spend to move to L.A. might have been better invested in a new stadium in San Diego, where the Chargers would collect most of the revenue. Why move to a city that showed little interest in them? "It wasn't rational," a high-level league source says. What a putz. 19 Quote The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. He wasn’t wrong. And then there’s this: What a putz. Yo, something else happened on Monday too... Quote The San Diego City Council unanimously voted Monday to direct the city’s negotiating team to proceed with San Diego State University‘s offer of $86.2 million to purchase and redevelop the former Qualcomm Stadium site. SDSU made its first offer of $68.2 million, based off a September 2017 appraisal of the site, to the council last month. The council voted to direct the city’s negotiating team to continue drafting a formal transaction document with the goal of approving it by January and closing escrow by the end of March. Negotiators are expected to give updates to the council each of the next three months on the sale’s development. Quote SDSU must still receive a stamp of approval from the California State University Board of Trustees on the project’s environmental impact report, campus master plan and draft sale agreement, which it intends to do by January, to close the deal. After the CSU Board’s approval, the council would vote to approve the EIR’s findings by February with a targeted date of March 27 to close escrow on the sale. The two parties intend to exchange a 135-acre parcel of land, which SDSU would redevelop into a 35,000-seat stadium to be primarily used by the university’s football team. Plans also call for a satellite campus, a park along the San Diego River, commercial and residential space and a bridge extending Fenton Parkway over the San Diego River. Quote San Diego voters approved the plan, then known as SDSU West and now dubbed SDSU Mission Valley, last November. SDSU’s offer includes terms that it will assume the responsibility of maintaining the current stadium and demolishing it when required. In addition, the university would assume the costs of demolishing SDCCU Stadium. The university would be required to construct the 34-acre river park, estimated to cost $30 million, within seven years of the sale agreement’s effective date and prior to the occupancy of any other building on the parcel of land, save for the stadium. Under the terms of the agreement, SDSU would also indemnify the city from lawsuits having to do with the EIR, campus master plan, sale agreement and the stadium’s current state. The Spanos family could have done all of this with any NFL stadium fund money, which they would've found via either Bank of America, Chase, or the worst name in finance and NFL/big business' #1 partner...Goldman Sachs

Everyone would have asked which high school Shad Khan and his kids went to and would have stayed away from buying tickets since they weren't St. Lousians, even though Shad tried to buy the Rams first. EDIT: The "St. Louis Where did you go to High School meme" is so real and the internet over the last decade has exposed it. I experienced it in 1998 along with a kid from my Florida HS class when he was there for Wash U Law school and orientation people flaunted it and I was there before my Grad School years there as my parents temporarily moved there as my Pops could 30 years at A-B before he retired and they divorced. kimball
It should be interesting to watch the Cincinnati/Bengals situation unfold. Cincinnati has to sign the Bengals to a better lease, but any threats of relocation I feel will be tempered by the cheapness of the Browns. I wonder if the situation will bring about the sale of the team? More likely someone local I would assume. Quote "I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific." The_Admiral
You know, "Las Vegas Jaguars" would have suited me fine enough, though my preference would be no teams of any sport in Las Vegas at all and no teams moving unless from St. Louis. 1 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I guess it would boil down to how ambitious the Brown family is. Couldn't they just sign short-term leases at PBS for another 10-20 years? It's not exactly in disrepair.

Dilbert
Honestly, what Mike Brown has done to the Bengals and Cincinnati, as a local I would actually be happy to see the Bengals leave, unlike his father, Mike is a cancer to the city, the team and to football. The stadium isnt even that great, so despite the taxpayers getting robbed from Brown i wouldnt shed a tear to see the Bengals leave, the city and county demolish its white elephant, and move on to better things. The issue with the Bengals relocating is the infamous Cleveland Browns law here in Ohio, which ultimately helped keep the Crew in Columbus. Mike would never sell the team to a new local ownership, and he would fight tooth and nail to move the team. The city, the fans have mostly given up on Brown and the Bengals. Even Joe Burrow wont be enough to save them. Brown is that much of a cheapskate. With the exception of a few seasons he hasnt been able to field good teams and the team hasnt won postseason game since he took over after his fathers death. Prior to Covid the Bengals were 31st in the league in attendance and thats only because the Chargers were in a 27,000 seat soccer stadium. Several Bengals ticket holders finally gave up and cancelled their tickets and some moved over to FC Cincinnati (depite the team being horrible since joining MLS, FCC has competent ownership. But where could the Bengals or Jaguars go? St Louis, San Antonio, Orlando, San Diego, Oakland, Memphis, Some place in Alabama, London? I dont know but good riddance. 2 Quote Signature intentionally left blank
