Fictional History of SFL (AFA Universe) 1975: The SFL will return in November 2016

Even if the league allowed it, most players would probably prefer to play in Canada than in Europe so that they could return to their teams more easily in the event of the strike ending.  Of course, as unstable as the Canadian Football Association is right now, that might not be the best decision, but things are pretty stable right now as far as labor relations in the AFA.  AFA President Dan Szymansky isn't viewed as being a close ally of the Owners' Council or the Players' Council, which allows him to keep the peace between the two.  Then again, he's expected to retire by the end of the decade, and the owners will get to choose the new President, so who knows what will happen after that?

SFL leadership, led by Anders Bergstrom has worked to create a professional relationship with the AFA for over a decade, and while several players jumped to the SFL prior to the strike shortened season, there was never a concerted effort to pull those players. Many teams are either working directly with AFA teams, OR in discussions to develop players, but with the expansion across Europe, and the emerging talent level on the continent, there are not many teams who would see a benefit to renting a player for 1 week to a season. Lower division teams would possibly take a shot to get their teams into a Promotion situation, but even that makes no sense on a long term basis.

This and the quagmire in Canada leave the AFA players with little leverage (place to play) if another strike were to occur.

Carl Bergstrom presented the new look Uppsala Hammers to the Kommun Council last night, hoping for more Kommun involvement in the promotion of Uppsala's team. Their new home along the Fyrisån river was a partnership with the Kommun (City) and Lan (County) and will be the home of a new Academy program housing up to 400 12-22 year old athletes, and the U19 team was present for the unveiling, with several players wearing both home and road uniforms.

Bergstrom said "our new look takes our updated Hammer, and Crest, and shows our heritage as an important Viking establishment, with both Gamla Uppsala and the New City represented."

Uppsala staff worked closely with WB chief designer Alex Wahlstrom to create a look that is classic, yet represents Uppsala. The one big fight was over colors and a change to Red and Yellow gold more representative of the Kommun Flag, but with Lan support, and the classic colors of the Hammers, Navy was chosen in a 6-2 vote over the Red.

The SFL will be return in November... and is central to the plot line of an Alt History Novel I am currently writing.

in the story line, the League jumps forward to 2016, as the Uppsala Hammers are now a bottom dweller, and having recently been sold are looking to a central character in the book to lead them back to the Odin Cup.

The book does not revolve around the SFL, but while developing my central character, I needed a team for him to coach, and a foreign land to coach in. Using the SFL just made sense, and gave me a history to flesh out, along with my character.

I may post snippets of the book here, outside of our timeline, and in the meantime will be catching up to the AFA timeline, and when I return in November begin posting the seasons...

Have a great week!

This isn't something you get to add to (at least not in that way). In the future, there may be an expansion council in which you can vote for where the new teams would be added, and from there, FFWally will determine the moniker.
