Those penalties are way too harsh.

Even setting aside the inconvenient fact that ESPN has never proved anything in its existence, the NFL doesn't need "definite proof" to take action. You appear to have confused them with a court of law.

In cases like that the NFL should act like a court of law. Unless you have a 100% secure proof that the balls were deflated of purpose you CAN NOT penalize anybody. It was shown often enough that the balls were on low pressure because of the cold weather that day and not because anyone tampered with them. Several people have proven that with scientific tests.

That's not how a court of law works.

"We reached these decisions after extensive discussion with Troy Vincent and many others," Commissioner Goodell said. "We relied on the critical importance of protecting the integrity of the game and the thoroughness and independence of the Wells report."

Can we laugh? Independence of a report they paid for, and protecting the integrity of the game when they allow the games to be bet on!

Wow. I'm surprised that he's missing a quarter of the season -- that's real big. And even better, he's missing a Bills game. I like that!

4 games? Really, NFL?

What about making an example out of the Golden Boy here? How can anyone take your league seriously when you give cheaters a slap on the wrist but someone who smoked pot a full yearlong ban.

It's a 1/4 of the season. Not exactly a "slap on the wrist".

'More probable than not' lols... that's instantly my new favourite thing.

Amazing. The mere idea that people despise the Patriots upped the consequence. Had Brady punched his wife in the face on camera, he might've got 2 games.

I bet the networks aren't happy about this. Are they able to shuffle game times now so the networks can pick different national games?

I bet the Patriots still win 3 of those 4 games.

You want to explain that part?

LOL at the butthurt Patriot fans complaining about this ruining the integrity of the NFL. Please, the NFL's integrity was ruined the moment Goodell deemed himself to be a God.

It's bogus. If they gonna give Brady 4 games cause he "probably knew" about the balls why not the center and others? It's just a witch hunt. There's no auctual proof he knew about the balls, this just sets a big precedent. This better get dropped in appeals it's such a joke. Lets strip Tampa Bay of there super bowl title cause brad Johnson said he paid the ball boy to doctor the footballs the day of that game!! Why stop here??

This getting dropped in appeals would probably be the worst possible outcome for the NFL. And that's exactly what I expect to happen. To go through all this only to have it overturned by an arbitrator? Good lord would that look bad. What an absolute clown college this league has become.

:censored: Tom Brady and all, but Jesus. What is this nonsense?

Do you understand circumstantial evidence? This is exactly what circumstantial evidence is. The reason Brady is being punished and not the others is because he's in direct control of the balls the Patriots use when on offense. He's likely being suspended for 4 games not only because he cheated, but also because he was completely, arrogantly, non-compliant with the NFL in terms of giving them evidence.

How does the center NOT have control of the football before the snap?? He would know just as much as brady. That's my point. Not even a fine. It's obvious that this was to tarnish brady and not anybody else. It's baused of probable stuff not proof. If punishment in the court is baised off of proof why should any other business differentiate?

I'm going to pretend that this is a serious question rather than a brilliant parody of pro-Patriots trolls, because it really is quite good, and direct you to the post above yours:

The center doesn't have a reason to request the balls be deflated. If the balls were deflated intentionally, which it sure seems like they were, it would be because that's how Brady wants/likes them.

With that said, a one game suspension would be excessive... four games? This is insane.

But the center can hide something in the gloves to deflate a new ball, I've heard storys about them doing that. thats my issue here.

Getting to keep the title you cheated to win seems like fair exchange to me
