Haven't we been to this dance before?Yeah, like 50 times. If the past is any indicator, this means two things:1) The deal WILL fall through, but not in enough time to get the team moved.2) As a result of the Coyotes staying in the desert for yet another season, another team is gonna get sacrificed to Canada. It's been my gut feeling for months that this was gonna be the most likely scenario. Looks like it's gonna happen, again.

rams80
Honestly, what's everybody's issue if a legitimate owner willing to take over and run the team buys the Coyotes and keeps them in Glendale? If it's true, I'm happy they're finding a legitimate owner who can hopefully make it work.Because the "legitimate owner who can make it work" can only make it work through enough financial subsidies from a municipality that would in turn cripple said municipality. That's the issue. The market is not independently viable. I'm pretty sure they're still going to post an actual financial loss at the end of a Cup run despite a bare-bonesed roster. That said, I wonder if your sentiment would persist if you realized that barring a Phoenix move, we're going to be seeing the unveiling of the Quebec Nordiques 2.0, formerly known as the Columbus Blue Jackets. It's different when your team is in the firing line. Quote On 8/1/2010 at 4:01 PM, winters in buffalo said: You manage to balance agitation with just enough salient points to keep things interesting. Haven't we been to this dance before?Yes, and at this point, a tentative deal carries all the positive certainty of the all-conference mathlete announcing his intentions to bang the prom queen. This is just something to juice ticket sales for the next round. NEW.ERA
I really think right now. The only way that Quebec, Seattle or Markham.... is through expansion. And there probably isn't enough, actually forget probably. I know that the talent isn't there.Even though Bettman would love 32 teams. STL FANATIC
In case anyone isn't picking up on it being a joke, the Blues ownership situation being finalized was supposedly waiting on the end of their run. Numerous sources saying an announcement is coming within a week. That situation has earned skepticism itself of course, though there's never been steps back. Just lots of tiny ones forward. The_Admiral
This still relies on the city giving away money they don't have and wouldn't be allowed to give if they did have it. This sounds like another dog and pony show, just like when Hulsizer was "just about" to buy the team. Great seats still available. This sounds like another dog and pony show, just like when Hulsizer was "just about" to buy the team. Great seats still available.Yeah, that and the fact that Jamison's name was tied to the deal before Jamison himself was, this whole thing sounds fishy. Also that the timing of the moves have coincided with pushes to sell more (no doubt highly expensive) playoff tickets - it's all very reminiscent of the Hulsizer nonsense during the last playoff run. One wonders who is safe and who is not safe from being the sacrificial lamb. Someone should list from least likely to most likely - I didn't really see the Thrashers going until it happened last year.
The_Admiral
Other than the Coyotes, I don't think there are any emergencies right now. The Blues are finally about to be sold. The Blue Jackets got their bailout creatively financed public-private partnership. The Devils are going to file for bankruptcy but they won't be moved. Again, Winnipeg got their team because the arena manager in Atlanta said it would not host an NHL team in its building anymore and so they had nowhere to go but Winnipeg or liquidation. I don't see an analogue to that situation. The NHL could theoretically own the Phoenix team forever if having a hockey team in Phoenix at all costs is really the most important thing in sports history as they've made it out to be. The_Admiral
Blues, master lease, Opera House, Rivermen for $130 million? They're getting more for less than Jamison would, plus the fact that the Blues/arena might actually make money. Still MIGHTY
Just arrived at Westgate. Half of the parking lots got repaved today, so they're blocked off... Awesome.Though it does seem like Thera more people here early compared to previous games. We'll see.NOTE 1: Outaide te entrance in this Whiteout party area, we have an absolutely AWFUL rock cover band. They're just covering random rock songs, and this girl singing... Ugh... Just ugh... At least they have beer vendors and the Caps/Rangers game on a big screen on the arena.NOTE 2: They aren't showing the announcement live in the arena. I couldnt stand being outside anymore haha, so I had hope it's be on in here. Not though. Don't know about outside. I suspect they'll get to it during the game. The_Admiral
Sounds like the "announcement" is that they're trying to work on a deal unless someone gets in their way. Slam dunk. wildwing64
Apparently a tentative agreement has been reached. Can't remember the guy's name. There's no mention of it anywhere on NHL.com or the Coyotes website Quote PotD: 24/08/2017
