NJTank
Gary Bettman stakes his entire reputation on the survival of hockey in Phoenix so I think we will see another year of this desert fun.It doesn't have to be this way though. Bettman could finally give in and let them move, and still spin it as a success. He could play the "I fought as hard as I could to uphold our policy of considering relocation as only a last resort" card (making the owners happy) while also appearing as a hero in the hockey hotbed of Quebec City. He could easily turn any defeat represented by the Coyotes moving into a victory. You think he is that smart? Gothamite
Look, Bettman has convinced a city to drive itself into crippling debt, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars, in order to finance a hockey team its citizens don't actually want. "Stupid" he's not. Quote The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
dbadefense1990
Here's my take on this whole wheelie-neelie: there aren't enough Coyotes fans to save the team, even after this West Finals. Some of the fans only came out because they played an LA team; there's a hatred for all teams LA by Phoenix people. It goes back to the Lakers-Suns or Dodgers-Diamondbacks battles. The whole Cali-Arizona wars. These people don't know hockey (why do you think the only chant they knew how to shout was "Beat LA").
TheOldRoman
Well, here we are on May 23rd and the Coyotes season is done. I think they would have enough time to move the team at this point. Someone posted that the Thrashers/Jets sale went down on May 31, so we are a week from that date. They might even be able to go a few weeks into June before moving the team. If the rumors are true that Quebequor has been told beforehand that the team would be coming, they could have worked out the branding and other stuff. They might have even hired a number of people recently with plans of reassigning them to the Nordiques. Last year's "sale" fell through because Hulsuizer pulled out after realizing Goldwater was going to sue and Glendale had no way of winning. Hopefully Goldwater either publically announces a lawsuit or makes a call to Jamison to let him know that the subsidies wont pass the court. A forth year of the Coyotes existing on government cheese is not a desirable thing for anybody.
Gothamite
Goldwater has already indicated that the deal under discussion is unacceptable, so there's still hope. Quote The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.

GeorgesL
It has been reported on Yahoo! Sports NHL section that the Glendale City Council has approved a preliminary budget that includes $17 million to be paid to the prospective buyer of the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes for operating costs for the city's Jobing.com Arena.Surprise, surprise! It appears from what I'm understanding that it boils down to playing with monopoly money, since they technically didn't have $17 million, so they lay off dozens of civil workers in order to raise the money. As for Greg Jamison being a "potential" owner, I'm not saying he's not a fit owner. I'm saying is that he doesn't know what he's getting himself into. If he buys the team, will they stay in Phoenix? Rightly so. For a year at most. One owner can save a team from financial ruins and bring them to financial success. Not the case here, especially in Glendale's situation and the team's fiscal woes, not to mention our heroes from the Goldwater Institute breathing down his neck. Guaranteed he'll lose money in his first year, if the sale goes through. Other than that, I'd say he has his work cut out for him.
