ZapRowsdower8
I'll be honest, I haven't really been keeping up with all of the specifics in this situation, but what's the problem with Kansas City exactly? Yeah it's not as "sexy" as Seattle or a slam dunk like Quebec but they have the arena ready to go. Bonus: Realignment is an easy fix. CubsFanBudMan
I also wonder how the NHL being in Glendale affects the NBC deal in any way. If they require a certain level of market, yet never choose to show that market, it's a wash. Unless it's solely the NBA kind of "Oh no not San Antonio and Indiana" kind of irrational Final(s) fear. A 1-5% reduction in fees would be inconsequential in terms of a club's operational budget.

The_Admiral
How on Earth do the owners keep accepting Bettman's bull ? How does Bettman still have a job?He stages lockouts and claws back revenue from the union.I'll be honest, I haven't really been keeping up with all of the specifics in this situation, but what's the problem with Kansas City exactly? Yeah it's not as "sexy" as Seattle or a slam dunk like Quebec but they have the arena ready to go. Bonus: Realignment is an easy fix.Kansas City (as in the city government itself -- but was I to say "City of Kansas"?) decided they don't want an anchor tenant. They're happy enough with how the books look right now and realize that if the NBA or NHL came a-callin', they would do so with demands for high "arena management fees" and revenue streams to be diverted from the arena owner (the city) to the arena manager (the team) as conditions of having a team. They're actually better off relying on concerts, expos, and occasional KU games than they would be with a team gobbling up dates and money. There isn't going to be a team in the Sprint Center, at least not on Gary Bettman's onerous terms. 1 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

If they require a certain level of market, yet never choose to show that market, it's a wash. Unless it's solely the NBA kind of "Oh no not San Antonio and Indiana" kind of irrational Final(s) fear. And Seattle's not quite as big of a draw for NBC as one might think specifically with respect to hockey. CBC cannibalizes part of the hockey-watching market in that area, so much so that their main NBC affiliate relegated Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals to their second-tier channel in town. I suspect the hockey fans who really care about hockey in the Phx metroplex are still going to tune into NHL on NBC in near-identical numbers. Picking up a market might be nice for the network, but strengthening the set of 30 in the long run would benefit both league and network. With that reasoning, QC combined with their readiness to house a franchise is the only logical choice.Which of course means we'll be introducing YOUR Las Vegas Boondoggles next week.
