NHL Anti-Thread: Bad Business Decision Aggregator

If each of you were more interested in your personal local governmental authority and in Robert's Rules, as opposed to the issues of the elected officials of Glendale, North America would be a slightly better place.

Motion to put my balls in your mouth?

Stop worrying about another community...

Someone has to. Their own elected representatives don't seem to. And the Coyotes' most vocal supporters, including Squeaks4 here, are leaches in the worst possible way. They don't even live in Glendale, yet they want the city to bankrupt itself to fund their precious hockey team. It's morally repugnant. Sure, I live in a different city in a different country, but guess what Original Tampa Kid™? My concern over what Glendale's doing to itself is more sincere then what the despicable fans of this albatross of a team want.

and look towards how your local tax money goes away or jobs lost.

What does that have to do with ANYTHING being discussed here? Or did you throw that in just to be difficult?

NIMBY is an acronym since it is not your backyard.

Let them do what they want to do.

First off, it sets a dangerous precident, as DustDevil61 pointed out. Secondly "you shouldn't even be discussing this" is the last resort of a man who knows he's on the losing side of a debate. Finally the notion that we should only comment on things we have a direct connection with is pretty much the antithesis of internet message boards.

While you are a Canadian, there is still a reason why there are state's and community rights to handle their money.

I'm well versed in how the devolution of powers works in the United States.

FWIW if for some reason the federal government has to intervene in Glendale then it most decisively becomes our problem.

The people voted for representative(s) who want the team to stay. Disliking the agreement as being a "non-voter" is tough $hit. Sorry.

Yeah, no one's saying you're wrong OTK. Doesn't mean we can't mock them for their idiocy.

Didn't click either one, but that's probably the same link that the admiral posted earlier in the thread. He mentioned that one was about bananas, too.

Anyway, typical Glendale. I actually know someone who tried to say that the Coyotes made money their first few years in Phoenix. If I remember correctly, some seats in America West Arena only let you see about 70% of the ice. So they were pretty much going to struggle from the start (and then fail) because there wasn't a plan to move into a hockey arena after playing a year or two at America West Arena. Team bled money then, team bleeds money now. Even in their hockey arena.

Not sure who else is keeping tabs, but the city of Chicago is closing public schools left and right (but mostly south) while using TIFs to divert tax money into building a--you guessed it!--sports arena and surrounding shopping and entertainment district, which will host DePaul basketball in an area that is geographically incompatible with DePaul basketball because no one can get to the games if they even wanted to anyway which they don't. Government-financed arena-mall in an asinine location for a crappy sports team while cutting off essential city services. DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR.

Believe me, I am. Rahm's revenue projections for the arena are based on a stated current average attendance for DePaul of around 9,000. Except Crain's found out that there are only 2,800 people actually at a given Blue Demons game, and the university basically prints and shreds the rest of the tickets Loria-style and calls them "distributed". Worse yet, quite a few people think the arena is merely a precursor to the nightmare scenario of Chicago being handed a municipally-operated casino, which would - and can you believe this :censored: - be granted a completely irrevocable gaming license, and be exempt from oversight by the state gaming board.

We're moving to the South Loop on Saturday. As this scenario and this board have prepared me well, I look forward to attending the public meetings on the arena, assuming there are any, because operating under daylight isn't really Rahm's style.

Is that "looking towards how my local tax money goes away or jobs lost" enough for you, MOD EDIT?

No need for the name-calling. Please, make your points without it. Thank you.

That's the logical end to all of this. There's no way this deal works out financially for the city, no matter the University of Phoenix's "punching in the numbers" shows.

Sooooo when's the next lockout?

Eight years. Because :censored: it.

It's happening for sure. It's only been 6 months and already Mike Smith (MIKE SMITH!?!?) got a 6 year, 34 million dollar deal from the league owned team that doesn't have any money.

It's gonna get even worse in two days when free agency opens. This is just year 1 too. Imagine what salaries will look like in 7 years.

Just because you repeated his name in ALL CAPS with the double "!?" punctuation pattern to follow, you know, I still don't really feel the Mike Smith vibe in that post.
