Also, a little presumptuous to type out "honour" when quoting an American there, Sportsnet.

Well, I mean, if their house style as a Canadian publication is to spell it "honour," then they have to do it that way no matter whose mouth it came out of, don't they? It's not a different word altogether.
I know. I was just poking fun. ;)

SN: How long have you been a Coyotes fan? What got you into hockey?
I was born and raised a (Boston) Bruins fan. ... I used to be die-hard Bruins fan and now this is my team. Love them or hate them, I support them.

So what jersey do you wear to Bruins/Coyotes games? She said in an earlier answer mentioning the Super Bowl, she was from New England and would kill for those tickets. Are you a Cardinals fan now too?

In regards to this point specifically, I've come to believe if snowbirds would end up giving their local teams a chance then we wouldn't have to worry about attendance numbers and local support as much. Sure, it might not make much sense for a Wild or Jets fan to cheer for the Ducks if they moved to California, but I hardly see the harm in a Flyers or Bruins fan going to a handful of games throughout the year and rooting for Getzlaf and company while buying a hat or shirt. Then again, I'm dabbling in sports polygamy so I'm a weird one.

I think there's more honor in half-taking up a team from afar because you like their players/uniforms/city than there is in adopting a team because you move near them and they're there. I don't want sports Stockholm Syndrome.

See, I would think the opposite because if hockey is your thing, why wouldn't you want to help the local team flourish and celebrate with the people around you? Sure, a Winnipeg-Dallas thing wouldn't work, but as long as it's interconference, I don't see much potential for cognitive dissonance. But again, this depends on the enthusiasm of the fans. But even a retention rate of 10% would be massive.

I dunno, maybe I don't like the people around me. You don't seem to like Hawks fans very much. Maybe I don't have delusions of grandeur about the importance of my support and just want to like who I like without crediting myself for helping them to flourish. I mean, I was banging the drum for a return to Winnipeg when everyone else wanted the Coyotes to go to Hamilton, but I haven't done anything to help the Jets other than the pennies they get from my Gamecenter subscription. I'm not important.

My initial point with this was showing solidarity with a comment similar to something Infrared posted a while back about broadening your fandom reach. Doing so would help out some of these dire spots. Not trying to sell it as a panacea, of course, but a little bit from a lot of people could go a long way.

And really, if you were goaded a bunch by any fanbase, especially unprovoked, you'd be pretty salty as well. But that horse is long since dead by now.

Anyways, if the Yotes do end up somehow staying for a while yet, I wish they'd go back to a logo and color scheme similar to the inaugural batch. Let's get some green and orange back in the Pacific.

It usually doesn't work, either. I bought season tickets to the Diamondbacks when I moved to Tempe in an attempt to gain a rooting interest in them, and I ended up actually disliking the team even more once the season was over. It was just too strange wearing my Giants gear for a series vs San Francisco, then swapping to D Backs gear two days later when they played the Brewers or whoever.

I basically worked for the Sounders and Mariners last summer, too. Mariners were fun but didn't stick, but I am kind of a Sounders fan now.

I dunno, I don't see anything wrong with trying to get into the local teams when you move. I mean, what else are you gonna do? Sit in your basement grunting to Cubs games while everyone else is out at the Angels game (or whoever)?

I'm fairly certain this is, in fact, how admiral spends his summers.

I lived in Louisville for two years and convinced myself I was a Reds fan. That didn't stick.

I'm a Bills fan first, but the Seahawks are a close second. If I moved from the PNW though, that would probably change.

I can't imagine rooting for a different MLS team.

Since moving here I've taken a liking to the Mariners because they seem to be Seattle's ignored sports entity and I'm attracted to losers and projects. Plus Safeco Field kicks ass. I'd be a bigger fan if I had cable and could watch them every night though. MLB.tv has them blacked out in this market so the only games I've seen this year have been live or in a bar.

If Seattle gets an NHL team they'll be my #2. I'll buy the jersey, go to the games. They'll never replace my team, but I see nothing wrong with pulling for the local team if you're a transplant and your team isn't a rival. My sister lives in Pittsburgh and she would never pull for the home teams there.

I didn't pull out the quote to harp on her for being a transplant or part-time fan or whatever. Hell, when I lived in Phoenix, I went to my fair share of Coyotes games and bought a white Peyote throwback and wore it to non-Ducks games.

But would I have gone to a Glendale city council meeting and angrily pointed my finger at the mayor? No. That's why I'm curious as to what she would wear to a Bruins/Coyotes game. Is she a Bruins fan that roots for the Coyotes because they're local? Or is she a Coyotes fan that used to be a Bruins fan? It makes a difference in terms of the context of her rant, to me.

EDIT: also, I guess the Glendale mayor had previously announced a charity drive that would allow someone to taze him. Well, after the meeting, there was a swell of support which allowed this woman, Ronda Pearson, to taze the mayor of Glendale...

Well, weren't you there when the D-Bags adopted Caveman Baseball and were beaning hitters and starting fights for imaginary injustices? I'd have to think even natives found that team reprehensible.

You can say that, knowing that the Ducks (and Angels, for that matter) are safe and aren't going anywhere. Everyone becomes a great actor or does things they normally wouldn't do when the situation becomes dire enough to them. Until you're actually in a dire situation, it's pretty damn easy to say what you would do.

Seems like a lot of you are wanting to put these Coyotes fans (or any fans in a similar situation) into a lose-lose situation. Posters here will either mention that these fans couldn't be bothered to show up for a fan rally when times are at their most peril (whether it be the Thrashers or Rams or whichever fan rallies didn't get the number of folks you believe should have been there) or fans that do show up to rallies or city counsel meetings get mocked. The city can't seem to win either....they get ridiculed for agreeing to this contract in the first place, not they're getting mocked for trying to get out.

This woman, along with the other Coyotes supporters, showed up to the meeting to give Glendale the appearance that the fans care enough to show up to a meeting that was put together last-minute. They recognized that they could be losing their team. She likes the team enough to where she purchased season tickets. As those of you that have purchased season tickets know, it's totally different than just purchasing tickets for a few games....there's personal relationships and financial investments you're putting into the team and the experience.

We're all pretty tired of Glendale and the Coyotes being at odds...we all want closure to this once and for all, whether it's keeping the team there or relocation. But I think your frustration is misguided towards this woman. She clearly didn't expect this groundswell of attention or to be interviewed by SportsNet.

I wasn't talking about the Ducks or Angels. I was saying if I was still living in Arizona with my experiences with the Coyotes, I wouldn't have gone to that meeting to yell at the mayor. I might've gone for the theater of it and to be the official CCSLC correspondent at it, but not to yell at the mayor.

And like I said in a previous post, I don't know how I would react if the Ducks and Angels were in this spot. (Well the Angels almost are, but that's the owner's fault and we're already pissed at him about locations.) but if they were, I still don't think I'd go to yell at the council. Plus Anaheim's mayor is (was? Think Tom Tait got voted out.) already an ass. There would be a line.

Anyways, it really is a lose-lose situation, though. No party is coming out of this unscathed. The Coyotes look bad. Glendale looks worse. And the fans/citizens are all caught up in the middle and will have their own scars.

If I remember my names right from two years ago, Pearson was part of the "Glendale First PAC" (or, if you follow the HFBoards threads, BeavisPAC) that went around trying to stop petitioners from fighting the political-corporate combine that pushed all this stuff through in the first place. George Fallar, the angry website guy, was the other one. They're also the ones who coordinate flooding these city council meetings with people who don't live in Glendale so that they get all the time to talk. She's not just some random angry fan; she's been looking for attention for years.

I'll bet you anything these same people raised the funds for the taser stunt, too.

EDIT: I am probably correct, but

http://www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/glendale/2015/06/12/glendale-crowdfunding-tase-glendale-mayor-jerry-weiers/71098768/

An Arizona Coyotes fan is using a crowdfunding website to raise $10,000 so that the woman who dressed down Glendale Mayor Jerry Weiers during a special City Council meeting Wednesday can be the one to Tase Weiers at a charity event on Saturday.

Weiers had previously agreed to be Tased for a minimum of $10,000 that will be donated to the 100 Club of Arizona, an organization that helps the families of law enforcement and firefighters who are injured or killed on the job.

Cave Creek resident and Coyotes fan George Fallar has set up an Indiegogo account in the hopes that Ronda Pearson can be the one to Tase Weiers. As of 5 p.m. Thursday, four people had raised about $135.

"It's a win-win for everybody," Fallar, 61, said. "The goal is to get $10,000 for a good cause. We're trying to take advantage of a viral situation."

that was a leap

Noticed that Bea Wyatt, CoyotesPAC secretary/Fallar's girlfriend, was also in attendance, giving quotes in Channel 12's story. It's always these three. They are the only Coyotes fans.

Gosh, I wonder who'd toss away $9,865 on a lark to put a Taser to Glendale's mayor? Hmm, who, indeed.
