Prediction: Expansion "cancelled", Coyotes move to Las Vegas for a relocation fee that's in the ballpark of an expansion fee.

Sounds like no expansion to Quebec City, just Las Vegas. Figures with this league.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/39616/bruins-owner-jacobs-i-dont-know-if-theres-a-desire-for-expansion

While Jacobs admitted Quebec has the history and a beautiful new arena with a strong fan base, he believes Las Vegas would be more viable.

OITGDNHL would a long history with the game and an arena of size mean "not viable" compared to a desert vacation spot with no history in any major professional sport.

I don't see Jacobs' comments as anything other than "We've been given the candidates' stones, and now, it is time to squeeze."

And don't give me any crap about the sanctity and importance of geographic alignment. You were an owner in the '70s.

Since there are already 16 teams in the Eastern Conference and 14 in the Western Conference, Jacobs did say he would rather see a team in the West.

While Jacobs admitted Quebec has the history and a beautiful new arena with a strong fan base, he believes Las Vegas would be more viable.

"Take a look at what’s gone up in Nevada -- it’s scary. I mean, it really is. It’s a heck of an arena built there, and there’s a strong interest there," Jacobs said. "Balance the fact, Quebec has a great hockey interest, [but] it’s an extraordinarily small market."

When a comment was made that the league wouldn’t want to expand into Quebec because the franchise could then possibly fail, Jacobs said: "No, we don’t want to do it again."

Jesus, what the :censored: is this? YES. Take a look at it. It's definitely scary. A gambling based economy in the desert located in the most federally propped up and population desolate state in the country. LETS THROW A PRO HOCKEY TEAM DOWN THERE, HUH?!?!?!

And where exactly is this interest, again? I've lived in (or very near) Nevada nearly my entire life and I don't know a single person who gives even two :censored:s about hockey. And I lived in the northern half of the state! And don't give me this bull :censored: about how "Oh it's there alright, you've just never noticed!". I got that same line in Phoenix and I always said it's by far the biggest pile of nonsense I've ever heard.

They're actually going to put up a team in a city that's more indifferent to their product than Phoenix. I mean, just think about that. It's so far beyond the definition of insanity that The Joker is even trying to talk some sense into the NHL. This is so :censored:ing stupid. I don't care what any other comissioner does, they are NEVER supplanting Gary Bettman utop the great mountain of idiocy. Rodger Goodell could rape a ten year old cancer patient with her soldier dad's prosthetic during halftime of the Cowboys Thanksgiving game and he would still be a more favorable choice as a comissioner than Gary Bettman.

EDIT2: he's like "come on, we brought the banners over and everything!" Yes, congratulations on storing the belongings of your tenant, I'm so proud of you.

It turns out Yormark actually didn't bring the banners over! Only the championship banners and retired numbers were brought over from the Nassau Coliseum; the ones for divisional and conference championships are either still just hanging there or in a storage unit out in East Massapequa. Presumably this is because the Islanders have won a lot while Nets B Brooklyn have won very little and they don't want to be even more shown up. What a tragedy that we finally de-Yormark the Florida Panthers, they subsequently become slightly tolerable, and now this happens to a team that's actually cool.

Unless something has changed, the division and conference championship banners will be raised on Opening Night along with the retired number banners (only the Cup banners have been hanging during the preseason).

http://islanders.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=779884

I don't know if that was the plan all along or if the fans had to talk Yormark into it.

I get that they need to try to appeal to Brooklyn and city residents now that Long Islanders won't be able to go to as many games (getting home at 10:30 and paying $8.25 for parking is much easier than getting home after midnight and paying $26.50 per person for one round-trip LIRR ticket to/from Ronkonkoma). But they seem to be going out of their way to antagonize their existing fans. I'm sure most fans would've been fine with a new goal horn if it didn't make their ears bleed. It wasn't an attack on Brooklyn like Yormark thought it was. It was an attack on noise pollution.

This reminds me of the Wilpons' tone-deafness when Mets fans were upset that Citi Field celebrated the Brooklyn Dodgers' history more than the Mets'.

I can't tell if Adam Jahns has got jokes, or if he's just an NFL beat writer.

In lighter news, according to General Fanager, the Coyotes would be $1.181M above the salary floor, were it not for the padding they get from Chris Pronger's contract. The system works!

COCAAAAAAIIIIIIINE

If there are more than 20 players in the league doing coke,Captain Renault Bill Daly would be shocked.

Hey, what's Patrick Kane's public appearance schedule for this week? Anything involving his endorsement deal with Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana Chevy Dealers?

Just wanted to post that one of my facebook friends moved from Illinois all the way to Glendale to take a job with the Coyotes. If there are highlights, I will mention them here.

One of these days I gotta finally put together a thread about my awesome experiences working a six month position with the NHL's footage and licensing department. Most notably DRINKING BEERS 15 FEET AWAY FROM BETTMAN/DALY/SHANAHAN AT THE CHRISTMAS PARTY. But really it was the most fun entry-level job/paid internship ever.

To make it Anti-NHL thread worthy, my interview for the position was the same day as THE Glendale hearing.

Just to clarify for everyone, the facebook friend isn't me. If it were me, there would be no if about the highlights.
