I'd be interested in trying a southwestern take on poutine. Not a big fan of the Quebecois original. I'm ambivalent to french fries and I hate gravy.

I tried a place here that serves it fajita style. Topped with beef, pork and chicken. With cheddar cheese and pico de gillo on top. Closest to southwest style I've ever seen

Arizona has TERRIBLE Mexican food. And don't even get me started on that bland white rice "Southwest" style crap they have.

Where the heck are you eating? I'm originally from AZ, and I've never had better than in AZ (I'm from the border with Mexico). Especially Tucson, but I've found some good places in Phoenix, too. I can recommend better places, if you need.

Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions)Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

I don't live in Phoenix anymore and am back in California, or I'd definitely take you up on that offer.

In the three years I was there, I NEVER found a single Mexican restaurant that was even pretty good let alone very good, and I tried a TON of places because I love Mexican food. It was all SO damn expensive, too. The majority of even the dirty hole in the wall places I've eaten at (especially in Southern California) absolutely blow even the more well known Mexican restaurants in the Phoenix area out of the water.

It could've been a three year string of poor luck on my part. But considering the sample size I created, it must've been an absolutely astounding run of bad luck.

It took about 3 days from the initial reports of allegations for Wrigleyville's t-shirt vendors to start selling "Kaner Made Me Do It" shirts. Still probably not in the Top 5 for offensive shirts in their current selection, though!

Wait, what? How does Phoenix not have awesome Mexican food? You'd think that'd be the one thing they can't screw up!

Much like Big Bear, Jack Eichel is doin' thangs. Looks like Buffalo didn't really lose the draft lottery after all. Now that they didn't, we should fine them a draft pick for getting this guy.

I trust we're all blasting "Let Me Clear My Throat" with the Sabres goal horn in our respective offices as much as possible.

When I was out there, my friend's family took us to a little place in a strip mall that had been around for 60 years, Popo's. Delicious as hell and I regretted ordering as much as I did. The taco itself was over have the size of a burrito from Moe's or Chipotle.

I'm a little late to the party with my 3 v. 3 overtime take, but I don't watch preseason games and my team hasn't played in a regular season overtime yet. Last night I tuned in for the Ducks-Canucks OT and oh my goodness did I hate it. Reminded me of watching Arena Football. It reminded me of playing NHL Hitz. And at no point in the hundreds of hours I spent playing NHL Hitz in 2002/2003 did I ever think the NHL should adopt the arcade style 3 on 3 format in real life.

I don't suspect this will be a short lived experiment because this is Bettman's NHL. He fully commits to bad ideas and sticks with them forever. I'm just going to have to get used to it.

Having watched this stupid league shoot itself in the foot for about 16 years, I will tell you how this 3-on-3 thing will go. Through October, a lot of games will be decided before the shootout. Everyone will ooh and ahh over how dynamic this 3-on-3 hockey is. Columnists will even opine that regulation hockey should go to 4-on-4 so there's always more open ice! But by American Thanksgiving, coaches will have adjusted, and 3-on-3 overtime will be even safer than 4-on-4 was (consider that no one ever pleads for more open ice in playoff overtime, which is much more likely to end in five minutes than it is to end in fifty), and overtime will become nothing but twenty-second shifts of harmless dump-and-chase to make sure that everyone is Playing Our Kind Of Mistake-Free Hockey and other such crap, and then the number of shootouts will go way up, and general managers will wring their hands once more about how there must be something done about this damned shootout, even though the shootout is not the problem and never has been the problem because you don't have to do it if you knock it the :censored: off with the limp-dick dump-and-chase crap.

Still committed to this post.

I've seen one overtime game so far, Chicago v. Long Island. It was kinda scrambly for a bit, I guess, then Nick Leddy took a penalty, Hawks went to 4 on 3, and scored, because that's generally what you do when you're playing 4 on 3. In other words, it's the same outcome that we would have had if we had started the period 4 on 4. Looking forward to the first overtime game against the Coyotes; my wrists don't need all that blood.

Lightning went to OT in their first game against the Flyers. Since I can't be bothered very well with pre-season hockey, it was my first exposure to inorganic 3-on-3 hockey. Oh sure, it was exciting, but good grief was it ludicrous in its application. If I wanted to watch non-structured, open ice hockey, I'd find my way up to Canada for the winter (...what's the opposite of a snowbird?) and have my pick for wherever I wanted to watch some rec hockey being played by locals (watch, because Lord knows I can't skate).

Jason Garrison scored the game winner on a breakaway. Jason Garrison. Because...NHL hockey works out so well that Jason effin' Garrison just generates breakaway opportunities, doesn't it?

And these still count equal to regulation wins, too! 3-on-3 is just as meaningful to win under as a shootout is. Should just separate regulation results from non-regulation results at this point in terms of weight placed on wins.

I was as surprised as you are when I first moved there. Really disappointed, too.

After living there, I suspect there are two reasons for this, though:

1) I can't really speak for Tucson as I've only been there twice (although I tried a Sonoran hotdog while there and was pretty underwhhelmed), but the overly strict and downright racist immigration policies in Maricopa County led to a bit of an exodus of the Hispanic population. I was SHOCKED with how few Hispanics are in Phoenix as a whole. I moved there from an area where the South American immigrant population was pretty high anyway, but I totally expected Phoenix to be a bit of a cultural and population hub for immigrants, but it's really not from what I saw.

2) Due to the snowbirds, there's SUCH a large midwestern influence in Phoenix that it tends to dictate what businesses thrive and fail there. For example, they put a Portillos in Tempe Marketplace instead of more locally influenced eateries (Which I don't get the appeal of at all. It's the most astoundingly meh place I've ever eaten) and tossed up a bunch of Culvers in the county while I was there.

I can't imagine Gila River Arena (or whatever it's called now) would be any different as the nature of the business they work with is about as white as it comes.

Did you ever go to South Phoenix or east side of Glendale? I don't know where you went. But there are ton of good Mexican food places. As far as few hispanics. Again you were looking in the wrong places. Tons of them on the West and South side of Phoenix.
