I dont think VMC is suitable even as a temporary venue. Lets face it the desert experiment in Arizona should have ended years ago. Its time to move them somewhere else, like Quebec, Kansas City or Houston.

For some people, even here, that would be preferable to letting Canada have another team. Périsse la pensée!

"Perish the thought" is something Bettman would say to the masses of hopefuls from Quebec City, who have wanted their team back since they left.

He seems so adament to keep all of his teams in the US, even when a golden oppurtunity presents itself. If my memory serves me correctly, the reason why Winnipeg got the Jets back was because Atlanta was in the same boat and the league had their back against the wall. Meaning there were no other options other than Winnipeg, at the time.

Eh, a guy can dream.

At least the NHL and NHLPA haven't railroaded Upper Deck and gone all-in with Fanatics when it comes to trading cards. Yeah, big story tonight with Topps and Panini getting shut out of Baseball, Basketball, and Football cards. I posted about it in a thread about Fanatics t-shirts.

Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends. Sounds like something from a Rocky & Bullwinkle story arc.

So, let’s see if I have this straight. The Coyotes, who used to be the the Winnipeg Jets, are going to move to Quebec and become the New Nordiques, because the Thrashers already beat them to the Punch and became the New Winnipeg Jets.

What a goddamn mess. The NBA’s screwy history has NOTHING on this clown car of a league.

OK, so lets speculate here.  If Arizona goes anywhere clearly in the Eastern Conference.  Who gets bumped west?

- Detroit? (was in the west for a long period of time, but always wanted to be in the east allegedly for travel/time zone)

- Columbus? (younger franchise, but same situation as Detroit)

For ideal alignment purposes, Arizona would be best off anywhere that keeps them in the central division.  Houston, KC, and maybe Milwaukee would be the likely scenarios, but are there really any other options?

Isn't the expansion fee what they're really after?  They could make up some of that in a relocation fee, but since the purchaser would have to pay that on top of the purchase price (and I'm assuming that even a crappy-irrelevant team like the Coyotes is worth at least a few hundred mil) wouldn't that be a blocker to moving them rather than just having them play in a high-school rink?

Seattle paid what - 600M or something like that?  I have no idea what the 'yotes would sell for, but for it to make sense for the league, it'd probably have to be close to 1B USD - and does the Quebec group have that kind of money?  Maybe... I don't know.

I’m not defending the Coyotes in anyway. But Veterans Memorial is built for hockey and basketball. Soot is feasible that they play a couple years there

This article does a good job of breaking down the direness of the temporary arena situation in Phoenix:

Quote

Footprint Center housed the Coyotes from the time of their move to the Valley in 1996 until 2003 when they moved west to Glendale, but it may lack the proper ice plant to service an NHL team (it has some infrastructure for Disney on Ice), and it is highly unlikely that owner Robert Sarver would take the Coyotes in. He has rebuffed previous attempts by the team to strike a deal in the building, and he won’t likely be anxious to help a team that wants to build an arena that would compete with his venue for events.

Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum also lacks an ice plant, luxury boxes, the requisite fan capacity (listed at 13,730) and numerous other amenities. It would require a significant investment just to make the arena operable, and the team would lose a lot of money playing there.

I was curious so I looked it up. This is the inside of Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum:

And set up for hockey:

I like it a throwback arena that evokes a certain appreciation for nostalgia, but this is going back 30 years, at best.

Honestly, I have a different thought. Make money through broadcasting a dispersal draft and getting a big fat expansion fee somewhere else! Heck, the precious Kachina jerseys can be overpriced Mitchell & Ness exclusives.

TL;DR: This, except it’s an NHL club:

Pretty sure if the Yotes are going anywhere, it’s Houston. I mean, it’s not like they just relocated to the perfect division in order to compete in Houston or anything.

If Houston didn't work out, there's a perfectly good arena 3 hours to the west that could use a hockey team! #whynotsanantonio

Yeah, I looked at the AT&T center in San Antonio and it’s not made for full time hockey.  It’s built primarily for basketball and has a hockey setup like Barclays in Brooklyn.
