This is the best the 49ers have ever looked. Their current look is horrendous.

You can add all the funny pics you want, but that era in 49ers uniform history is flawless. That was a perfect example of how to modernize an old look. The black color addition goes perfectly with the dark red. The red facemask is light years better than the horrible grey facemasks. The "SF" intertwined into the sleeve stripes looks great. Even the gold trim around the numbers and finished with the black shadow is flawless. It was a tragedy when they got rid of these.

Nope. That uniform was a perfect example of bad 90's design. They hit all the marks... darken the main color for a tougher look? Check! Add unnecessary black trim? Check! Huge F'n drop shadows? Check! Repeat the helmet logo on the sleeve (like we some how missed it the first time)? Check! Hey, for total logo overkill, throw it on the hip, too!! Check, check, check! Lazy crap. And to twist the knife, the mismatch stripes between helmet and pants.

Worst of all, the went with this generic 90's nightmare in place of an absolute classic uniform that they won numerous titles in. Fail on all levels.

The current uniform has just one problem... the sleeve stripe misstep. Other than that, it near perfect.

I've always been a fan of the Eagles 1940's logo (not married to the "Eagles" font though),

The white Eagles helmets and their Harold Carmichael-era jerseys matched together would be perfect. White jerseys with green pants. Green jerseys with white pants (the silver pants always looked like sweatpants to me).

That 49ers uniform could have been good if they had kept the bright red. Darkening it to a cranberry resulted in a drab, muddy mess.

Bingo. The black drop shadow (when all they really needed was light black trim), further damaged that look as well. But the foundation is solid, easily their best in my opinion.

Tradition is the foundation of innovation, and not the enemy.

The only thing that I really like about the 90s Nines look more than the current look are the metallic gold pants. The khaki pants were horrendous in the 80s and they are just as bad now.

but lets be honest, the pants would have probably changed to khaki anyways with everyone going with the matte look instead of the dazzle fabric.

I was in the minority of those who liked the neon green for the Hawks (at least once a season, not always). My only caveat would be to wear them with white instead of the blue pants. But, given the new Nike template/look, I'd like to see a revised neon green jersey design used once a season.

If you really want a truly perfect 49er uniform, there are two move that need to be done.

One, move the three stripes up on the sleeve so they're all relatively visible.

And, two... bring back these awesome looking socks;

A MILLION TIMES YES

and that goes to all NFL teams, wear patterned/striped socks. Stop with the boring no stripes its lame

Pretty much every team that still wears traditional (or semi-traditional) sleeve stripes can probably get away with matching stripes on their socks. Look at the Bears and Chiefs... its a great look.

This is the current uniform (or one of them, anyway).

And so you're saying the only problem is the sleeves, huh. IMO the sleeves are the least of their problems.

Well, no, that is not their current uniform... its a butt ugly alternate that has yet to see the field. So, yeah, I've blocked those things out. When discussing a teams uniforms, I'm just thinking of the primary home and road. With the exception of throwbacks, as a general rule, alternate uniforms blow.
