NWHL Jerseys

"Start paying players when you can" is the sham the CWHL's been pulling for five years now. It proclaims in the press that it's profitable, just, you know, not enough to share any of the profit with the labor. One of their players had to crowdfund during the playoffs last season because she was out of sticks, and players have to buy their own gear. It's actively recruiting team staff, website operators, and video producers as "volunteers", because they're all unpaid positions, too. It's a rec league with Olympic talent that makes its players sign service contracts, forbidding them from leaving to get paid elsewhere. If the NWHL does nothing more than break the CWHL's awful, awful business model, it will have done plenty.

When it comes to youth and college and international competition, equal opportunity is important and it should be supported by everyone.

But professional sports aren't done out of charity. If nobody wants to pay to see it, then it's not going to be seen. That's reality; that's the free market. The WNBA has reported that only 6 of its teams are profitable for the second year in a row. The television deal is worth $12mil a year. If it wasn't for support by the NBA, it would've shut down years ago. That was a great gesture by the NBA, but you can't require other leagues to do the same. Unless there's enough fan support for a sports league, it will fold.

You have to do things right, be careful, or we're going to go back to having zero semi-pro women's hockey leagues again.

I'll respect any opinion that you can defend.

Personally, I'm buying the Beauts for sure and likely the Whale and Pride. Then again might just buy the Riveters for the Scrivens jersey

That "CTW" monogram on the Whale's shoulder looks clunky as all get-out, but I like what they did with the wave striping. Unique without going full-goofball-'90s on it.

Also, I guess this means each team will only have one jersey, since this lineup of four gives adequate contrast for every possible matchup.

For all the bird de lis haters I think the bird de lis isnt supposed to be a pelican and a fleur de lis I think its just a fleur de lis with a pelicans head. Thats what it looks like to me. Also the flair around the tip of the beak is just flair that fleur de lis have sometimes source I am from NOLA.

Honestly, i was expecting this when the contest was held and I got the initial email, for them to only have one jersey. Makes sense financially, but I like the idea of only having one, especially when there is no point in a 4 team league.

Out of curiosity, what does the CTW stand for?

CT = Connecticut and W = Whale.

Admit it, though...old-school Sesame Street popped into your head when you saw these initials.

Actually, not until you typed it. I didn't even think of Connecticut Whale, I assumed it was some dead person's initials...
