flash
Maybe if the NBA sent the Blazers' 2-way players to Mexico City for a year, they'd be more inclined to have their own team. If they can't find a suitable venue close by, they could they bring back the Idaho Stampede. That would at least be better than sending players to another teams affiliate. Seadragon76
Outside of Memorial Coliseum in Portland, there is the Chiles Center on the University of Portland campus (Which, at 4800 seats, is within the ballpark of most arenas in the G League) and Viking Pavilion on the campus of Portland State (at a little over 3000 seats. Again, in the ballpark of most arenas in the G League). Outside of that, you would have to start looking either north or south for arenas suitable enough for a G League franchise. Are there that many die-hard basketball fans in D.C. or Detroit that are willing to fork over some dough to see the B-team play? Speaking on DC. The Capital City Go-Go drew pretty well last year. Keep in mind that was the first season of that venue being open, so many people likely attended games just to see the shiny new toy. I attended the opening game last season and eyeballed the attendance in the lower level at about 55% full (no clue how full the upper deck was). Their televised games appeared to float between 30-40% capacity on average. Hotter Than July > Thriller

I know the Delaware Blue Coats played at UD for years before Sixers Fieldhouse opened. Thought there were a few more. dfwabel
Quote MEXICO CITY (AP) — The G League is going to Mexico. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced Thursday night that Capitanes — a Mexico City-based team from the top Mexican pro league — will join the G League in the 2020-21 season as the league’s 29th team. Capitanes will become the first G League team from outside the U.S. and Canada. The announcement was made shortly before Dallas and Detroit played the first of two NBA regular-season games happening this week in Mexico City. It will not have affiliation with an NBA franchise. Portland and Denver are the last two NBA teams without a G League affiliate. The other 28 have G League clubs. GDAWG
Mexico City may not be affiliated with an NBA franchise, but I could see two way players playing there, notably from Denver and Portland.

Brian in Boston
The Detroit Pistons have bought the NBA G League's Northern Arizona Suns from the Phoenix Suns and will move the franchise to a new arena on the campus of Detroit's Wayne State University in time for the 2021-22 basketball season. The Phoenix Suns will operate the team in Phoenix for the 2020-21 G League season, while the Pistons will remain affiliated with the Grand Rapids Drive during the same campaign.Detroit Pistons Purchase Northern Arizona Suns from Phoenix SunsPhoenix Suns General Manager James Jones: Statement Regarding Sale of Northern Arizona Suns
Seadragon76
So, what does that mean for Grand Rapids? Would this be a chance for Denver or Portland to finally put their G League roots down?
4_tattoos
I'm lost. The GR Drive couldn't simply relocate to Wayne State? And the PHX Suns had no say whatsoever over the NAZ Suns? Will this lead to the creation of a Phoenix Suns 2 G league club? Hotter Than July > Thriller

And the PHX Suns had no say whatsoever over the NAZ Suns? Will this lead to the creation of a Phoenix Suns 2 G league club? The Grand Rapids Drive are independently owned and operated by SSJ Group, a consortium of business executives based in Western Michigan. They don't wish to relocate the franchise to Detroit. The Northern Arizona Suns have been owned and operated by the Phoenix Suns. The NBA franchise has "determined that ownership and management of the Northern Arizona Suns does not align with the Phoenix Suns' plan for player development over the next three-to-five years". Bottom line? The Detroit Pistons want their NBA G League affiliate to operate closer to - in fact, in - Detroit. Ownership of the Pistons' current, Grand Rapids-based G League affiliate have no desire to divest of the team, or relocate it to Detroit. The Phoenix Suns no longer want to own and operate an NBA G League... period. As a result, the Detroit Pistons have elected to buy and relocate the Prescott Valley, Arizona-based NBA G League team that the Phoenix Suns were looking to unload. SSJ Group will continue to operate a G League franchise in Grand Rapids.
